Was Ratatouille (2007) a good movie?

>>223957131It was ok, not the worst of its era but far from the best.I think I'll have a cucumber salad today..
Ratatouille > Wall-e > The Incredibles > Inside out > Monsters Inc > Finding Nemo > Monsters University > Toy Story 3 > Toy Story > Up > Soul > Cars > Toy Story 2 > A Bug's Life > Toy Story 4 > Cars 2

>>223957205>I think I'll have a cucumber salad today..Why not with some pumpkin?
Why did Remy choose to serve ratatouille to Ego? How did he know Ego would love it? That part of the story never made sense to me. Remy just somehow magically knew the right dish to serve.
>>223957431It's literally the rustic food from the old lady's house at the beginning; Ego's mother.
>>223957131I wonder how white Paris was back then
>>223957447before ww2, it was white
>>223957398Monsters University is fun
>>223957431For the longest time I didn't get it either, turns out Remy lived at Ego's mom's home and I felt like a massive retard for not putting two and two together at first
>>223957431I heard from Brad Bird that Remy the rat lived in proximity to the mother of Anton Ego, the critic. Due to this, he knew everything about Ego, penis size at age 5, favorite food, penis size at age 8, mother's shower schedule
>>223957131It was alright, it's one of those Pixar films that everyone likes to pretend was amazing even though it kinda falls apart after the first act. Same thing with "Up".Speaking of which, can we talk about how shit "Up" actually was?All people remember about it is the concept (the floating house) and that sappy opening prologue with the wife that later dies, but then the film goes off a damn cliff and become eerie and bizarre, in kind of a stupid way....the psychopathic explorer who tries to kill him, the giant bird, the talking dogs, no one ever talks about 3/4s of the film, everyone just stops at the premise and the schmaltzy prologue.Opinions?
>>223957682>but then the film goes off a damn cliff and become eerie and bizarreSame with Ratatouille. I mean really, was the 30 minute scene with the zucchini really necessary for the plot
>>223957721That's what I'm saying, everybody always talks about the mouse, Linguini (or whatever his name is), the scenes where the mouse controls him in order to cook, but the whole narrative development of the film is usually forgotten about, how the midget chef wants to steal Linguini's inheritance from him, then he kidnaps the mouse and tries to murder it...It's like a film that's a few beats too long, it stretches the premise a little too far and wide...but at least "Ratatouille" develops in a somewhat coherent way, whereas "Up" starts off with an old man's promise to his deceased wife to take their house to Patagonia (or wherever they wanted to go) so he creates a flying house....and then BAM, crazed explorer, talking dogs, a giant bird, the kid that tags along...It's not necessarily terrible, but it's so bizarre and a little lame lmao, it's like the film puts aside its own premise and goes CRAZYYYYYY
Ratatoullie did not come out in 200-What the fuck?
>>223957721You know I'm not really sure, I think I need to see a still image from that scene for me to make a determination of whether it was needed. Maybe some Brave Anon could post it for me.
>>223957131As Brad Bird's next film after The Incredibles, no. At that point I was already wanting a sequel to his 2004 film. I seem to recall Ratatouille having good music though. Michael Giacchino doesn't disappoint.
>>223957790Pretty sure an anon posted it already, jannies are yet to catch it

See you all later
>>223957682yeah, the opening is all that is ever remembered Nobody gives a shit about the stupid talking dog or the dodo. it would have honestly been better as a short instead of a full film, but that happens like casino royal people really only remember the opening bathroom fight and the poker scene and then the rest of the movie is a total blur and nobody liked the airport scene.

>>223959737Have a good vacation
>>223959807Tha thing is that it starts so cutesy and fairy tale-like and then it becomes like a strange thriller lmaooo, there's a drastic shift in tone once they meet the bird...And it's not like the film completely abandons the main premise, with him trying to take the house to South America (you know, since they have to drag it along Fritzcarraldo-style) but there's sooo much else going on, and suddenly the film is about trying not to get killed by a centenarian crazy explorer and the entire premise gets sidetracked>it would have honestly been better as a short instead of a full filmThat's also how I've always felt about Inglorious Bastards, the cold open with the Nazi guy is just masterful, while the rest of the film is really subpar compared to it
>>223957682I remember I saw this in theaters with my babysitter at the time and she cried at the opening monologue. We went home later that day and her bikini top came off when she jumped in the pool. Now I post cucumber pics in Ratatouille threads. What a life.

>>223957682I have a theory I have believed about Up for a long fucking time, that I think is true, but no one ever seems to think the same when I tell it to them. The thing that bugs me about Up is why all the people shame and discredit the old adventurer guy, just because he shows them a skeleton of a new species. Typically animal scientists don't just dismiss stuff like that out of hand, and especially not from famous adventurers who presumably have a reputation. Now we fast forward 70+ years and the guy who was a seasoned adult adventurer back then is still alive now, and in good health. Sure, we can say he had good genes or something, but I think something else makes the story more sensible.I think he was dismissed and shamed by his peers not because he presented the bird, but because the bird is in fact the fountain of youth. Any proximity to it makes people feel younger, and even more so if you do something like eat it. I think that the guy figured this out, claimed to have it, then got laughed out of the room. He stormed off, promised to find it, and in the end he lost his marbles from being alone with nothing but dogs, and just became captain ahab but with the bird. I think both proximity to just the skeleton, and probably some amount of interaction with other birds of the same species, prolonged his life and health beyond that of typical levels. The other thing this explains is how Karl, who could barely move at the beginning of the movie, was suddenly able to do acrobatic stunts and fight sequences. He was simply exposed to the same passive effect from the bird. You can write it all off as just "needed to make compelling scenes", but this theory fills in the holes in the plot about why the adventure guy's peers would be so dismissive of his claims, and how a lone adventurer with unknown resources and presumably no access to medical services was able to still be alive and operating normally at such an advanced age.
>>223960322It's a very interesting theory haha, I was talking about this film with my sister yesterday and I quipped that the explorer guy should've just gone back without the bird and presented himself as the scientific wonder, since he's probably around 110 years old and seems to be more agile and witty than our main character who's at least 30 years younger. So that's a plausible theory actually! The only thing I think you got wrong is the fact that I believe the explorer's guy's reason for disappearing into the jungle to find the bird was the fact that people shunned him because the skeleton he brought back was a fake, an imitation. So his ego got scarred and he decided he was going to find that damn giant ostrich, or whatever that thing is....but I may be misrerembering things.

>>223957131If people ask me what my favorite movie is, I still say Ratatouille. It's beautifully animated, it's got a great story that shouldn't work on paper but somehow it does, and its core message isn't just for cooks or chefs, but basically any artist or anyone who creates something.
