How come there still isn’t a single film like Forest Gump or picrel for people that were born in the late-80s/early-90s? When you think about it there’s so much to that period of history to explore
>Idyllic 90s childhood, the introduction of home computing and 3D video game consoles
>Columbine as a dark omen of the changing times
>9/11
>War on Terror
>mid 00s emo and scene mallgoth culture
>08 crash and beginning of the modern liberal Obama era
>rise of social media and internet culture
>gamergate

A good director could easily tie these events through a character study like in FG. I’m surprised it hasn’t been attempted yet

Millennials only adopted (stole) this generational trauma aesthetic from boomers because they grew up playing video games and browsing internet forums instead of actually participating in history, and so unlike their parents and grandparents their defining cultural experiences were corporate entertainment and algorithmic slop, this collectively made them self-conscious of their apparent historical irrelevance, steering them towards performative nostalgia for a childhood that was barely two decades ago, completely lacking the awareness to figure out that nobody wants to watch Forrest Gump for people whose greatest historical contribution was arguing about video games on the internet. Zoomers at least have the decency to admit their entire cultural identity is being raised by TikTok and developing mental illnesses.

Now that I think about it are there any Gen X movie equivalent to the boomer hagiography of Forest Gump? Like some retarded guy meeting Reagan and Michael Jackson then later helping convince Kurt Cobain to start a band?

no, gen x only has nostalgiaslop like ready player one

It's weird how cultural zeitgeist films are almost always written by the generation prior to that of the target audience.

Yeah was gonna say A River Runs Through It is about the generation who came to age during WWI, basically the Boomers grandparents

>lord of the rings
>Harry potter
>gladiator
>hunger games
>Kingdom of Heaven
>Nolan dark knight trilogy
OP, are you dumb?

Who stole everything worthwhile from the greatest generation and is all stolen valor. All these movies depict people who the boomers aren't.
Nobody wants to watch forrest gump because it's basically a gary stu of a retard who just so happens to have everything go his way, while it was one of the first on film that doesn't make it good. That boomers even watched it and didn't call it the turd it is (wow a movie that goes "REMEBER VIETNAM, REMEMBER ELVIS WOW THIS GUY MADE ELVIS" should've been a huge flop if boomers were remotely intelligent.
Zoomers are so dumb they can't even pay attention to a movie long enough to figure out that foresst gump is shit and that's only going to get worse.
As for historical relevance well the only thing boomers will be remembered for is how they stole from the 3 generations after them and didn't have the good grace to die early. On the generation tombstone of boomers it will say "A generation of locusts that weren't properly exterminated, thank god they're dead".

I don't mean that. I mean the fact that many of the movies each generation considers their anthem was written by the prior generation.
Fight Club is widely considered a GenX zeitgeist movie but was written by a boomer.
Forrest Gump is the boomer anthem movie but it was written by a silent gen.
In both cases the writers are on the edge of the generational divide though.

Gen X has all the “HELP MY SUPER EASY WELL PAYING OFFICE JOB IN A THRIVING ECONOMY IS KILLING ME” movies

>3 1/2 hours of a loser man child consooming product and getting demoralized
>Dies, the end
