oh piss off anon, you can parody a genre or some general conventions. Airplane! was parodying the disaster genre. Scream was parodying slasher flicks.

i can write a comedy set in the Old West. i can also write a parody of Westerns, without ever ONCE doing a pastiche of a particular plot/scene, or having a character called 'Flint Westwood' or something.

Austin Powers is a parody of James Bond, Carry On Spying is a parody of spy films in general.
