I don't think open world suits gameplay well though.As for Dark Souls 2, there was a massive scandal with player base, where people were shrieking that evade doesn't work properly and they were counting iframes during rolls, having pissbaby meltdown over it. I had no issues with it except for some grabs.In response to this backlash FromSoft basically turned evade button into invincibility button where you won't get hit almost through it's entire animation.Problem was that people just kept mashing it and boss battles became trivial, so to compensate for this situation, FromSoft had to give all bosses retarded delayed attacks to catch spammers, and it's fucking comical.

Probably one of the biggest influences that taught me to wait at least a few months after release to get to a game since they almost all need some patches. Pursuer had some bad grapples, but only to one side. Elden Ring is 100x worse when it comes to insane grapples, but nobody cares because death means nothing in ER.

That first playthrough might have been my first ever cower-in-the-back-while-phantoms-do-the-work mage build because of it, which I then did in every future game.
