I watched this again for the first time in almost 25 yearsVery good movie, but... the demon that possessed Mary Hobbes possessed Gordon when he's looking at the wheelchair and here's a voice say "Hello, Gordon"Would love to hear if anyone else has theories
DO IT GORDON!
>>223964418
>>223965133That shot really stood out to me this time because it's the only shot that's wacky like that
>>223964418>the demon that possessed Mary Hobbes possessed Gordon when he's looking at the wheelchair and here's a voice say "Hello, Gordon"There is no "demon", it is a psychological thriller about the frailty of the human mind.
>>223965952That's stupid and if true it unironically ruins the movie
>>223964418I remember seeing it, loved itiirc all i got was that he had multiple personality disorder, that shit was so popular those days and was the gimmick in other movies too like Identity with john cusackeven tho i never got what the chair was supposed to be, i thought for sure it was some kind of cherkovs gun or somehow essential to the plotBut it was pretty creepy and i loved the setting, i used to love going around my city exploring run down abandoned buildings
>>223965133The greatest "fuck you" delivery in cinema history
>>223964418>>223965952I like the movie better if 'Simon' was an entity that had been haunting the asylum since Mary died and latched onto Gordon.
>>223966264You do not RC. Gordon didn’t have multiple personalities, the woman on the tapes did.
>>223966348That's my interpretation, as Gordon was stressed, but didn't snap until after his first visit, I think "Simon" was sitting on the wheelchair
I was working near Boston last year and went up to this place. The only thing left is the outer facade from the central building, but it’s still pretty awesome looking. The small cemetery that you see in the movie is also there although they removed the old patient grave markers.
>>223966348>>223966581Same frens, I believe in Simon. Anything else would make it proto-"elevated horror" slop and I refuse to validate that nonsense. No, the demon is not your repressed trauma over spilling spaghetti at the high school prom, it's a fucking demon, dude.
>>223966776Yeah and when they show flashbacks of Gordon committing the murders at the end it looks like he’s in some sort of sleepwalking state where something else is controlling him.
>>223965133Damn I haven’t seen this in forever
simon represents the capacity for human evil
>>223966928Disagree because the people that Simon "introduces himself" to are not evil. He lives in the weak and the wounded… doc.
>>223966964This. Any lawyer would tell you that Simon is not legally culpable for any of these murders. He can't be charged with anything. Just like Jigsaw.
>>223965133I remember liking this movie but this is all I remember about it.
>>223966776I watched the movie understanding it was ambiguous, but then it clicked for me thinking about it that it's a possession storyIt's neat that it's subtle about it, which is the right approach
>>223967009Silly posting aside, this >>223966928 is a bad post.
In a meta sense, you are all wishing for demons to be real, unironically willing them into being because it's more entertaining for you than the simple explanation of mental illness. Do you understand what you're doing, anons?
>>223967209Gordon is stressed, sure, but as far as we know, he wasn’t mentally ill and certainly not on the brink of a killing spree until the first time he went inside the hospital and heard Simon’s voice.
>>223967209Fuck off christcuck
>>223967242It does work both ways though as it's possible the boiling water getting splashed on him caused him to have a mental breakI think there's a demon, but the point of the movie is the ambiguity
