Yeah, i call bullshit on that, Mr. Jackson!
>>223970387Meh, it's not so bad. At least it serves to make the baddie more intimidating. Next to actual bullshit like bringing the ghost army to the battle as well as the various character assassinations (gimli, denethor, faramir, etc), it's a very minor thing.
>>223970387EXTENDO SLOP IS NOT CANON!
>>223970387>I have Gandalf, the one person really giving us grief in this battle, totally defeated and at my mercy>allow me to leave urgently and not show up again for 30 minutes
>>223970740I struggle with the ghost army because it does take away from the broader battle, at least in theory. In practice, it's not only a good use of Tolkien's theme of powers above and beyond the war with Sauron, it's also the only time Aragorn's kingship comes in useful. I think it's actually pretty important to the success of the 3rd film.
>>223970791The fuck?!
>>223970791he was on break
>>223970791No you don't understand, there were some guys on horses blowing horns. Super powerful wizards that just returned from death are nothing compared to a dude on a pony with a vuvuzela
>>223970977who defeated him?
>>223971000a midge with swiss army knife. Some karen claimed the kill, but knowers know
>>223971000Eru
>>223970855also raises the very obvious problem that if these unkillable ghosts are able to run through enemies like that why didn't they just stick around and clear osgiliath and mordor it only would have taken them another 20 minutes and they'd been stuck under the mountain for centuries so i'm not sure why they were such dicks about it in hackson's movie
>>223971142why didnt the ghost king just put on the ring, the ring would become a ghost and disappear, sauron would never get it back
>>223971142That's what makes it a great scene and solid use of existing themes. They are like the strength of stone deep beneath the earth. Strength that is never tested and has no care for earthly problems, that's trampled underfoot by innovation and humanism. When you find yourself scratching at rock with your bare hands, it becomes clear, the power of nature doesn't care because it is greater.
>>223970387Yeah I don't understand how a Human wielding one of the shitty Human rings defeats a Maiar wearing one of the Elven rings. This is the same Gandalf who got a powerup from God and destroyed the staff of Saruman. It would be one thing if the Witch King beat him in a sword fight, but to destroy his staff like that is straight up bullshit.
>>223971320originally ended up on the cutting room floor...
>>223970387Imagine if this movie, fuck, the whole trilogy was released today. Chuds would've seethed almost as much as they do in the real word about Rangz of Powah.
>>223970878>WHO THE FUCK ATE MY HALFLING ON RYE!>GOD DAMN FUCKING INTERNS!>KILLS ALL SARUMANS ORCS IN THE BREAKROOM
>>223971320you could explain it like...witch king used his most powerful ability to break the staff. gandalf being a powered-up maia didn't even really need the staff and could still have deleted the witch king (if he really wanted to). but this isn't shown since it's not the point of gandalf or the witch king. the poitn of the scene is to show how the witch king is a potent thread. gandalf is shown cowering because even he didn't realise how powerful the witch king had become. it doesn't mean gandalf was actually afraid of being killed (I can't remember the full scene, somebody correct me).
>>223971320>>223972237In >da books their confrontation is much more simple and expected, The Witch King uses his sorcery to empower The Grond to destroy the gate and rides in ahead of the host, where he confronts Gandalf. They trade barbs, he lights his sword on fire as a display of power, Gandalf uses his magic to knock his hood down, then Rohan begins their charge and The Bitch King runs away to reorganize his army getting reamed out
>>223971142Yeah if only there was some explanation why Aragorn didn't want to potentially abuse any powers and mess with forces beyond his control.
>>223970387Guess we know who is bottoming .I think galdolf would still finish with a limp staff though
>>223970855It is only way writer can battle scenes it seems.>good guys are losing>reinforcement change the tideSame thing Helm's Deep, Pelennor Fields and the Battle of the Bastards. It's tiresome, but normies eat it up
>>223970740How was gimli character assassinated
>>223971142>send an army of unbeatable ghosts straight into the hands of a known NecromancerGot any other smart ideas?
>>223973936le comedy relief dwarf
>>223970387Reminder that the “no man can kill him” thing isn’t a prophecy but just an offhand comment an elf made to some of his human compatriots as they were fleeing from the witch king back in like the 2nd age or some shit. Gandalf could have easily wrecked the witch king.
>>223970791This! It makes no fucking sense for the witch king to leave there, they would've all but won the war there if he killed Gandalf. In the book, he's in a stalemate, facing what he knows will be a difficult fight and then they're attacked from the rear. In those conditions, retreat makes sense. But Hackson wouldn't understand
>>223973981wellyeahgandalf is an angel
>>223970740the whole lot of it is bad because1. Gandalf could fuck him up2. Arargorn already fucked him up so why couldn't Gandalf?3. Gandalf says Sauron has yet to reveal the WK, when we already knew about the ringwraiths in the first movie4. Gandalf crying about no man can kill him is stupid, confusing and undermines what Eowyn does. Gandalf isn't a man so he shouldn't care that no man can kill him. or if by man you mean male, that's fine, but then it shouldn't be a surprise that Eowyn kills him since she's a female
>>223970740Gimli change was good, he had more to say then legolas
>>223973936This is the most retarded post I’ve ever read on this board (which is saying a lot).
>>223974428You are indian
>>223972237I thought the point was for the witch King to demoralize gandalf with his words and in the scene it seems like gandalf almost believes him and almost loses hope until he hears the horns. There's a scene before when fairomer is being sent out to die and we get a shot of gandelf just sitting there alone and depressed, and the camera lingers on him.Anyway that's what I got from that scene.
>>223974483I would argue that you are more likely to be indian
>>223974502Being indian of course you’d be wrong.
>>223974685You posted this from Vancouver bc, so you are either a self hating Indian, a chines shit poster, or a neet.
>>223974758So I’m in the 90% of posters category?Bold guess.
>>223974495yeah i think you're right. he loses hope for humans though, not himself (at least this is one way of reading the scene). it's not like he can die anyway, he just resurrects or stays in their equivalent of heaven.
