Same with the jokes, every now and then it's really funny, but not enough and it gets less and less.

Came here to say this. I watched the first two seasons on repeat when they came out (on my iPod shuffle, using VLC media player when I was in high school). Season 3 was the first time in my life I was disappointed by something television or film (other than maybe the 2010 Airbender movie.

Sadly some idiot executive at HBO saw how successful the Entourage deus ex machina formula was and made Silicon Valley use it. It's a show that probably should've lasted like two seasons, three at most. Except they dragged out the premise with the constant rollercoaster of "oh shit, the boys are on the cusp of being billionaires" to "oh shit, this one thing is going to ruin them forever and make them all homeless."

That one actor dying obviously ruined the original arc. They could never replace what he brought, and it made the Monica character superfluous. But that still doesn't excuse how formulaic and lazy the show eventually got.
