One of their ad formats had characters talking about insurance or whatever the fuck on a pier; one character on the pier was a dimwitted Chad actor who accidentally said "Biberty" instead of "Liberty." It wasn't funny, but it was at least something people remembered. They've been doing Limu Emu and Doug skits (a buddy-cop thing with a man and an emu) for a while, but I guess they are suddenly afraid of running that into the ground (or maybe it hasn't caught on like they hoped), so they decided to turn the word "Biberty" into a character.People presumably hate it because it's stupid and, again, reeks of trying too hard, like the Liberty Mutual people are telling you how much you definitely 100% pissed yourselves laughing when the idiot said "Biberty," even though at best it made some people smirk the first time they saw the original ad.The absurd part of it is that they actually invested a lot of care and effort into the stupid fucking thing, going as far as commissioning Jim Henson's Creature Shop to make several puppets.
