>Brando was an active ham radio operator, with the call signs KE6PZH and FO5GJ (the latter from his island). He was listed in the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) records as Martin Brandeaux to preserve his privacy.[156][157] He was also a novice conga player and even designed a new drum-tuning mechanism which he patented.[158][159][160]

>As revealed in the book Marlon & Greg: My Life and Filmmaking Adventures with Hollywood’s Polar Opposites, “He’d go into those early ‘AOL’ chat rooms, pretending to be all sorts of people, thrilled that he could just exchange views with those who had no idea of who he was”.

>Chat rooms, at the time, operated continuously as open forums for strangers to connect and talk about their desired subject. The first iterations of social media coming to the fore clearly connected with Brando’s desire to be human with people without being bogged down by his mammoth stardom.

>This was further confirmed in the later release of The Contender: The Story of Marlon Brando by William J Mann which details how the actor would spend hours online having political arguments with random people, with his account frequently being banned for telling others to “fuck off,” in a fit of rage.

Interesting that all these established arthouse filmmakers (her, Rivette, Resnais, Carax) did musicals late in their careers. I guess they're not that difficult to secure the funding for(?)

>One detail jumps out. Per Semana's account, Coppola said he's been taking care of his health, feels lighter, and hopes to shoot “one more film.” Hopes. Not "I'm cutting my new musical." Not "we wrapped in Basilicata last month." He hopes to make one more. If you've been following the never-ending delays of "Glimpses of the Moon" on this site, you already know what that means.
The time he could've spent preparing it, he spent doing multiple re-releases of Megalopolis.

Wings of Desire is essential
>>
>>224080177
>Wings of Desire
Actually great. You might be familiar with the Hollywood remake starring Nicolas Cage and Meg Ryan, but as most Hollywood remakes, that one was significantly dumbed down.
The 1987 original is way more somber, has a stronger visual language and asks more existential questions about human nature and agency with more nuance.
It features the late Swiss actor Bruno Ganz, whom you might know from his unrivaled Hitler portrayal in 2004's Der Untergang, bearer of the Iffland-Ring, in the main role of Damiel, an angel who falls in love with a human woman. Another actor you'll recognize is Peter Falk, of Columbo fame. But perhaps most significantly, the (then still divided) city of Berlin is what most defines the film and underlines the loneliness and isolation that the main character shares with the human beings he observes. As well as the desire that gave the film its international title.
Definitely worth a watch.

If nihilism is gay, your bastardization of Christianity is bisexual.
Christ founded an institutional Church and appointed men to govern it, giving them authority over his people. You wouldn't even know about Christ if not for the leaders of his Church writing about him and holding these writings as sacred throughout history. And if you refuse to submit to them, you refuse to submit to Christ, as he made clear when he said to them: "Whoever hears you hears me, and whoever rejects you rejects me."
>>
>>224080905
It's MST3K-core.

But no, it's not bad at all. The director's cut with the restored original ending that came out a while back is pretty sweet, in fact. Definitely would recommend it if you need your 2001sploitation fix.

It's an anime film adaptation of a manga about a very CUTE loli who was forced to watch thousands of movies at a young age by her totally-not-Coppola grandfather. So she starts her own movie production agency. It's a movie about making movies, essentially.
Every character in it gives their favorite handful of movies and I noted each one down for a watchlist. I saw Three Days of the Condor, The Cincinnati Kid, The Motorcycle Diaries (it was fun seeing Jack Nicholson get murdered), and Cyrano de Bergerac (1990) so far because of it.

I don't know about Borges specifically, but there's some Argentinian aesthetic lineage in Rivette's work. The Invention of Morel (which in turn was considered a masterpiece by Borges) was a big influence on him and that whole generation of French filmmakers.

And of course, he also used some pieces by the greatest Argentinian composer, Astor Piazzolla (who also collaborated with JLB at one point now that I think about it lol).
