Seasons 1-3 were the true golden age and have more soul than the ones afterwards, however it was a really solid show up until season 8 and then it started to die out until season 11. Still, seasons 1 to 3 are my favorite and what the show should have been about, but it's illegal for animated shows in the US to show emotions instead of a string of consecutive jokes, because that's what animation is for Americans: one big joke.

The Simpsons was a deconstruction of 20th century America, and the show died along with that culture. The decline began in 2002, in the post 9/11 era. In this day and age comedy is driven by resentment. If you look at SNL, one week they have some chump calling women whores, and the next week they have a bunch of women tearing down men in retaliation. That is what our culture has become. Either way, I rewatch golden age Simpsons, South Park, and 90s sitcoms just to remember how easy we had it back then.
