I literally just finished watching this movie about 4 minutes ago. I'd give it a solid 7/10. It's weird, because there's a real horror film in there, but it's sandwiched between unnecessary juvenile humour moments that feel like when Melissa McCarthy and Will Ferrell are doing their riffing thing and one of their 50 takes gets used. The soundtrack and sound design were fantastic and the first 30-40 minutes are by far the highlight. If this had committed to being a straight horror movie, it would've been at least an 8/10 I bet.

The writing ultimately has let it down.

Btw, fun fact for you, kids. There's an upcoming video game called Phase Zero that faithfully recreates the PS1 RE2 aesthetic.
And guess what, if you play the demo you'll find a lot of similarities with this movie, like the main character being an everyman goof in a knitted hat and vaguely EMT outfit, game starting in the hospital and moving on to winter city streets with snow falling. It was an entertaining flick with pacing issues in the first quarter, and unnecessary goodbye recording scene in the car park, and an admittedly terrible ending. However, it translated many of the aspects of PLAYING Resident Evil into a film and was fun along the way. I was practically shouting at the screen. The film is entertaining in the 1st act, but then it starts to unravel with the comedy becoming egregious. I REFUSE to believe anyone would attempt to stuck an MP5 magazine into the pistol grip, and not only do that, but do it backwards. No one is that stupid, especially since he states he plays videogames. The Umbrella people in the car was neither funny or interesting. The only thing good about it was the creature trying to lure him into the dark using her body, which could have been plotted a million different ways. The ending is abysmal.

Resident Evil 2026 was better than any other RE movie. Yes even the first one. It's an actual horror movie, for starters. Protagonist has a real personality (yes normal people would be scared of zombies and react accordingly). No I won't apologize for not liking your six films that Anderson did with his wife to make themselves rich and inject yet another nepobaby into show business.

Just got back from seeing it. It was fucking awesome. The comedy never felt overbearing to me. Creggers best so far and I really enjoyed Weapons.

In a weird way it felt like a fusion of old and new. It reminded me a lot of Escape from New York. Also you can tell Cregger plays these type of games with the choices he makes throughout the film.

Has to be an 8.5/10 for me
