Went to the first showing. Fuck what a movie!!! Should name this Godzilla Minus Kino!!!
>>224095804Sorry Digger but the real movie of the year just arrived... The only thing I disliked is that they don't conclude Godzilla's story. He just escapes and, after the credits, there is an implication of him coming back. Which is kinda disappointing because the trailer said that there was not going to be a third one.
Might change after I sleep on it but I think I enjoyed this more than the first one even if the first one pacing was tighter.I was surprised by how much screen time Ghidorah had like this is very much his movie and that Ghidorah into King Ghidorah regeneration scene might be one of his best scene in the whole franchise
>>224095804I prefer Minus One but that was a 10 and this is a 9.Still very intense and has great writing, but the opening is rather slow. The drama in general, while investing, wasn't as powerful as the original. It also was rather off how This was more of a Ghidorah movie than a Godzilla movie. I will admit they did a good job making Noda's death sad, and the ending was pretty powerful too. The Godzilla cell stuff was also interesting and surprising.Big shock, the special effects were AMAZING. It especially helped seeing this in a theater.
>>224095804It almost as good as the first one, kudos to them for the final fight, I didn't like the chicken it out the ending. It is good that japanese try to get their own king of the monster 2019 with this film.Top 5 best godfilla film of all time.
>>224096962To be honest, they obliterated his ass in the first movie and that didn't work. He's confirmed immortal so that ending would not fly anymore. Humanity can only cope by guiding him into some kind of protector role.
Based nigga stole my attention
Just got back from the theater. A few thoughts off the top of my head.>At worst, this movie is just as good as Minus One, so they thankfully avoided a shit/disappointing sequel.>This movie is basically like Godzilla 2014 in which it is essentially a Ghidorah movie co-starring Godzilla, though as a sequel it's less offensive.>The way things ended with Shikishima and Noriko, I don't think I'd want to see them again in a hypothetical third film. Just leave them be, already.>Holy fuck, this movie earns its R-rating. The aftermath of the bombing, the hospital scene, the New York sequence, Godzilla getting the shit torn out of him by Ghidorah... Some truly horrific and visceral imagery I wasn't expecting.>Godzilla ripping his own arm off is probably the most horrific-yet-badass thing he's ever done.>Is it me, or is there no actual moment where Ghidorah is defeated? Godzilla's blasting him with his super-duper-blast one moment, and then he's just going about his business fighting the military the next. There's no shot of Ghidorah exploding or being vaporized or anything. Bizarre choice.>I like how has a couple (unintentional?) jabs at GKOTM'19. Ghidorah has a similar storm/weather aesthetic, but at no point does it interfere with the visuals. Mr. Noda's death is almost exactly the same as Emma Russell's, except it's a character we actually give a shit about and are sad to see die.>It's funny how Noriko pretends her golden eye and shoulder fins make her hideous, but honestly? Still would.
>>224095804To be honest, I liked Minus One more, and thought it worked better as a complete movie. The only character in Minus Zero to have any sort of arc was the professor. The ending was also very much a downer compared to the first movie.
>>224095804anyone else tear up right before the end? you know the scene.
>>224099741have a safe trip, anonsome really endearing character moments all around.
>>224099741>>224099805>They put Akiko through complete and utter emotional hell for about ten minutes>"Eh, fuck it, we'll take you anyway."
>>224095804Absolutely perfect as a sequel.>Ups the stakes with the danger>Continues the character's story in a natural way>Gives certain characters more agency and emotional scenes>Dives deeper into the broader world4>Plotpoint from previous movie is brought up and expanded on and vital enough it soothes any feelings of "That was a plothole">Twice as much monster actionBeing a sequel really, really helped, we knew who the main pair were going in and we had already seen their love story culminate in the previous one, they were free to hit the ground running with characterization and destruction and holy fuck did they speed off as soon as the title said go. The emotion is still very much there and the center of the movie as it should be, but the monsters still were an absolutely ever present force that never once let you feel like the danger was gone. The final battle was tremendous and one of the very best of any godzilla movie, period, and it really did drive home that threat of not coming home.Honestly my only critique is that this didn't feel like the END of the story, far from it, the last frame and the scientist being hauled off makes it feel like this was just the start of an even bigger escalation yet to come. Godzilla is still out there, and the military has their sights on him
didn't this movie come out like five years ago?
>>224099931You think that's bad? That poor other girl had to watch her get taken away and know her mom totally could've come back for her.
Kind of mid, nice to see ghidorah but felt like everything that wasn't good in minus one was turned up in this, none of the action scenes felt as tense as the boat or ginza scenes in minus one either and weird pacing throughout
>>224100415Eh, that other girl was a bitch, she deserved it.
>mfw Godzilla charges up mid-heat ray for an even bigger heat ray Yeah it was pretty kino. Story was a little sloppy compared to Minus One but they did ghidorah justice. I have some small complaints here or there but it overall it was about as good as a sequel as you could realistically expect. The ending felt kind of weird I don't know about letting godzilla live but I need more time to reflect on it. I also onions'd out and bought the popcorn bucket, it is huge in person.
What the fuck was with Ghidora's death? It basically forgot to be included in the movie. Godzilla blasting his ass and then suddenly skip to post-fight and we never get Ghidora seen or mentioned ever again. Felt bizarre and rushed as fucked.
>>224100767I'm pretty sure he got literally vaporized. But that's also kind of weird considering the smaller beam from Minus One levelled everything within 50 square miles of Ginza.
My biggest complaint with how Godzilla came back ("He healed/regenerated") is... okay, don't get me wrong, that makes sense, but Godzilla literally fell into many, many pieces at the end of the first movie. Are you telling me only one piece regenerated into one full Godzilla? For a while (before seeing the movie) I was theorizing that Godzilla approaching New York was going to be part of a downer apocalypse ending where there were suddenly multiple Godzillas appearing all over the world.
>>224100813Not that anon, but the problem with that is that we don't SEE him get vaporized. There's no shot of him being overwhelmed by the beam and disappearing within the energy, or he falls over and explodes, or anything. He's just actively still being blasted and then suddenly it's like we skipped a scene.
>>224100595Yeah I kinda agree. I didn’t have my mind blown by watching this movie in IMAX the same way I did with the Ginza and various boat sequences in Minus One. Godzilla felt way more threatening and ominous in Minus One than either he or Ghidorah did in Minus Zero. This movie had the same problem as Shin Godzilla where there’s just way too much dialogue between the monster scenes, so it feels like nothing is happening for large chunks of the movie. The only difference is that it was too much exposition in Shin Godzilla versus too many sappy emotional scenes in Minus Zero. Minus One was also sappy, but I feel like the pacing and character moments were handled much better. This movie really dragged after Ghidorah was defeated and Godzilla seemingly stood around doing nothing for five minutes until the scene ended. I don’t want to sound overly critical, but Minus One set a high bar, and I don’t think this movie surpassed it. The only truly compelling character was the new professor, even though I was happy to see almost all of the main cast from the previous movie reprise their roles.
>>224100813The clip only showed his stupid ass getting pushed back without any disintegration, not only that but there was no big atomic bang like with the other atomic breaths. It was just knockback and then suddenly he's wiped from the movie entirely. What makes this even fuckin stupider is the fact that the same fight had them ripping heads and arms off so it's not like this stuff wasn't shown before. Then there's the fact that he ate Godzilla's arm and started getting his powers which should've included regeneration.>>224100841Makes even less sense when you realize he stole Godzilla's powers which include the extra regeneration, not his just blue spikes and atomic breath. Stupid omission was my only real problem with the movie.
>>224095804Wow
That action was cool, but I don't think it was a good as the first one>Thematically it felt less cohesive. Instead of sticking to one strong idea, it's spread out between what I think are three or four smaller themes>There's the theme of false optimism. Aoyama with her storm and Noda with Ghidorah both gave in to hoping on better odds and it ended up in disaster. Shikishima and Noriko both flee by train telling themselves that everything will be okay but once they see the potential destruction that causes they go back and help.>There's the theme of exploiting lives. Between the pilots and Noriko and Godzilla himself, so many lives get knowingly put at risk. Ultimately instead of asking the volunteers, Noda goes himself to stop Ghidorah, and ends up paying the price he asked of so many others.>Third there's the obvious theme of the cycle of revenge. This one gets a lot of focus in the end and it's what you'd expect.>There's also of course the theme of coming back home but the original really just did this better. I don't think any of these themes reach the satisfying brilliance of the ejector seat in Minus One. The way that tied together everything between the characters and Japanese history and Godzilla made for a beautiful climax and I just didn't get that from this film.>The final scene didn't really make sense with how it played out. Shikishima and Noriko's plan originally was to take their daughter with them as they ran away from the government, why wouldn't they take her with them again at the end? It almost felt like they were messing with her, or moreso the audience.>Pacing didn't quite feel as great either. Godzilla is only in a small handful of scenes and the only major monster scenes are the Ghidorah kill atempt and the kaijuu battle at the end. Don't get me wrong, these parts were amazing and tense, but beyond that there isn't much.
>>224100767>It basically forgot to be included in the movie.Huh? You saw the light glow out his back and then explode out, then we cut to the cloud, he got nuked.
>>224100841>There's no shot of him being overwhelmed by the beamBut you saw the white light glow on his back grow and slowly bleeding into blue before it suddenly bursts, and we cut to the shockwave and there's nothing in the direction Ghidroah used to be. It went in his chest, it's not like we didn't see how he died.
>>224100700>>224100819Godzilla has plot armor from Toho. He will never actually die at the end of any movie aside from the original from 1954.
>>224100880Either we watched different versions or it must've been a blink and you miss it moment. Only thing I saw was Ghidora getting his ass blasted by the atomic breath, Godzilla charges up another one while shooting the first one, Ghidora gets pushed even more and leans back then the scene randomly fucking changes. No explosion or anything. Just Ghidora getting kamehameha's and without the final payoff.>>224100921What shockwave? It just cuts to something different randomly.
>>224100937Did you just like blink out at the movie or did your theater skip something? He was getting blasted with his 3 streams going wild, getting pushed back, Godzilla does his doubletap and we cut to Ghidorah's back where we see the light grow on it and then right on the explode we cut to the guys on the rooftop and plane riding out the shockwave. Godzilla stands up all red and burning after it and there's a pause before he gets shot.
>>224100937>What shockwave? It just cuts to something different randomly.The... one the guys on the roof got hit by? Wait, what "Something different" did you see? That doesn't explain what missed here. The fuck happened at your theater?
>>224100973I saw the bit with the 3 streams and the doubletap, then during the doubletap stream he's getting pushed and then suddenly cuts to empty space or some shit, they start talking and shooting at Godzilla then he starts fucking off and they decide to let him live>>224100987>The fuck happened at your theater?Probably indians fucked up the projecting, audio during the monster scenes was distorted as fuck from how obnoxiously loud it was.
When I saw it I also thought it was odd that there wasn't a final shot of what happened to Ghidorah.
>>224101030>then suddenly cuts to empty space or some shitYou got me curious now, the actual fuck are you talking about? Like, an empty chunk of the city? Like an actual empty space, as in a blank area? Did you see the scene where the plane was shaking in the air, and that's why they had to go down to the water?
>>224101030>Probably indians fucked up the projecting,Sound like it, because while>>224101031 is right and we never cut back to, like, a crater or something, we do see how he dies with the glowing backside and everyone reacting to the earth shattering kaboom. They didn't just like, point at a random chunk of rock after the attack and then people are talking
>>224100937It's legendary bots lying about seeing the movie to claim it's shot bad on purpose. They already tried lying about Ghidorah's origins in a previous thread. It could also be viewers from China seeing a censored version
>>224101053 Just a wide shot of the city with literally nothing going on. Don't remember the part about the plane, it was shaking a lot of times during the movie, you mean the part before they meet up with the boat so waifuzilla and her pilot husbando can fuck off from the US?[/spoilers]>>224101081 Glowing and shit was there, but he's just getting pushed without disintegrating or the beam going through, and then it cuts to a wide shot of the destroyed city they fought in before they declare godzilla the survivor and start shooting his ass>>224101091I'm not saying it was shot bad on purpose, was enjoying the entire movie up to that point, just fuckin confused as to why Ghidora's death wasn't properly shown, he don't even see his corpse or anything, dude gets straight up erased from the rest of the movie
Also I don't if it was just my theater not being calibrated but this was the loudest movie I've ever seen, I had concert earplugs in and the roars still took the wind out of 'me chest.
>>224095804>>224096229I saw the first one and cried when the little Korean girl was screaming for her Chinese mother like "WHERE'S MY MOM?!?" in Vietnamese.Am I going to cry watching the second one? I've been through a lot and bros my psyche is frayed I won't lie to you. I don't know if a Godzilla movie is going to be the thing to do it but I'm holding on by a threads my brothers, genuinely.
>>224101170it's pretty bleak but ends on a bittersweet note, not totally unlike the original.
The moment where Godzilla is blasting Ghidorah with his double-charged beam makes sense. Its pushing Ghidorah back, it's clearly finishing him off, Ghidorah is going crazy, his beams going up in the air... It takes us right to the moment where we SHOULD see Ghidorah exploding, but it just kinda stops there. Like when the sequence of events is obviously:>Godzilla super-blasts Ghidorah>Ghidorah explodes in a huge ball of fire in the obvious grand finale of the fight>Godzilla has a moment of quiet after Ghidorah is defeated but before the military starts attacking himIt felt like they removed the middle one for some reason.
>>224101143>Just a wide shot of the city with literally nothing going on.That... was not in my theater, huh?> you mean the part before they meet up with the boat so waifuzilla and her pilot husbando can fuck off from the US?It's actually their last scene before that, the Ghidorah-Death shockwave hits it and it shows them going down with an inside the plane shot, and then after the whole thing you see them in the water. Your theater straight up cut out why they're in the ocean.
fuckin' hell you zooms need how to greentext and use those spoiler tags properly
>>224101192This guy's right though, we see the blast allllmost detonate coming out his back, then we see the shockwave of everyone holding on and the scene with the plane of them being rattled and going down to where they would eventually cut to the ocean, but we don't see the mushroom cloud or anything. Which is very odd, you'd think if nothing else they'd have him posing in front of the blast, right? Just a second of looking at some smoke and it gets the same idea across better. It does feel like they realized they cut back to Godzilla after the shockwave was over and didn't want to switch perspectives again before the ships hit him
>>224101274If you mean >>224101236 I thought I put them on for the first one, but must not have? I mean if any part was going to be missed it could be that one, "A wide shot of the city with nothing going on" isn't exactly spoiler worthy, but yeah just a miss.
>>224101236I'll have to rewatch it when it releases outside theaters then, one I saw in IMAX had the pilot and waifuzilla talking to the mad grandpa about destroying the machine and him finding out that Noda planned their escape as it shows the boat, next scene with them is them talking to the two guys before they piss off on the motorcycle.>>224101275NTA but another thing I didn't like was how their regeneration was hyped the whole fuckin movie and then suddenly with Ghidora's death it's all skipped and handwaived. Don't even see the fuckers corpse or something.
>>224101287don't worry about it, anon, sorry for being a dick about it, it's just board culture reflexes. a bit harder than usual to follow the discussion and who's quoting what is all, but a huge part of it is me being tired af
>>224100928That's not what I >>224100819 am talking about, though. I know Godzilla has plot armor. I'm asking why there's only ONE Godzilla in this movie when, really, there should be multiple. Why did only one piece regenerate?
>>224100819>>224101374maybe it was all the pieces fusing together like ghidorah and his tails at one point?
So, just to clarify, they already had a "Monster Sightings Headquarters" or whatever up and running even though Ghidorah was new and Godzilla didn't come back until the events of this movie, correct? For a minute I thought the dragon that ended up becoming Ghidorah was just supposed to be "Dum-de-dum, we've been dealing with monsters ever since we got rid of Godzilla and this is just a normal Tuesday for us now, dum-de-dum."
>>224101308>one I saw in IMAX had the pilot and waifuzilla talking to the mad grandpa about destroying the machine and him finding out that Noda planned their escape as it shows the boat, nThat's all correct, you apparently didn't miss anything after they opened fire on him, but yeah it sounds like your theater cut from them doing the run to wake up Godzilla and then just... being in the ocean for no reason? It skipped over the shockwave scene where they're going down and you get why they're in the ocean to have that conversation in the first place. What a weird glitch in your projector to cut from him shooting his double tap to, like 20 seconds later it sounds like?
>>224101634IIRC it was some kind of general disaster/emergency response department dealing with all kinds of extreme situations, including severe weather which is where that meteorologist lady came into the picture
>>224101374>I'm asking why there's only ONE Godzilla in this movie when, really, there should be multiple. Why did only one piece regenerate?Because Minus One showed it was his heart that regenerates with the stinger, think of it as like the "Core" point he regens out from. Theoretically that's the same for Ghidorah and why blowing up his chest killed him.>>224101634Yes and the first thing he says is that they haven't done anything since Godzilla but "This is what we're here for" after the opening, they establish nothing else has shown up in the 2 years.
>>224101374Did you miss the sequel bait in Minus One? Parts of him that fall off don't regenerate, just anything connected to his heart, this thing. Because GMK.
Was hoping for a little more of a widely cataclysmic outcome from the idea of letting those two fight, but it was engaging all the way and everything was excitingly loud. The action was a little Raimi-esque (complimentary)
>>224095804Sucks, thanks, fuck all weebfaggots who watch this evangelion shit.
>>224101695That looks nothing like a heart and everything like a chunk of meat.
>”THERE IS NO THIRD TIME”>ends in a way where there can very clearly be a third time
>>224098316motherfucker going goblin mode stole the movie
Did they ever tell or hint what Oda created during the war he felt he was paying for his sins?was it bioweapons?
>>224102057kek I was legit expecting another oxygen destroyer namedrop
>>224102057Knowing Yamazaki I have a sneaking suspicion they're implying he was associated with Unit 731
Did you spot him?
