Soo, they are from hell? I never understand what they were.

they are angels to some, creepy wound pain lover guys to others
>>
Inevitably, this is the final outcome of what pursuers of sadomasochism wish to aspire too.
>>
Was it ever acknowledged how the Elysium configuration existed or this movie is a stand alone.
I mean, if it's a reverse from what the cenobites come from, it means it boasts pleasure and joy?
>>
>>224095940
IIRC in the original novel they're freaky s&m pain/pleasure lovers from another dimension called the "order of the gash" who seek others who are into that type of thing. but sure, might be hell
>>
I think Cliver Barker made it seem they are just extra dimensional beings that seek out other gifted inviduals capable of having the same tastes as them, it's not just pain nor something that can be given to anyone, but earned. A cenobite doesn't feel the pain a human body experiences either but a sensation of pleasure.

As for Behemoth, it's a 4-dimensional being, I guess.

I never read it, but from what I know Barker changed everything when he wrote the sequel, making them beings from hell, it's too bad, I really liked the idea of them being from a fucked up dimension.

Yes. They are hell priests from hell.
>>
that movie was kinda meta in the sense that watching the frogmouth actress was really painful to watch

hands down one of the worst cenobite designs in the franchise, and thats including Spike
if youre serious about the question posed:
in Hellbound Heart (the story the movie is based on) the cenobites are extradimensional beings in pursuit of the far boundaries of sensory experience. emphasis on SENSORY experience, cenobites dont give a shit about moral conundrums or philosophy outside their own. they employ the Box as a means of finding others to hopefully broaden their own experience, to join them if they are worthy, or just to stave off boredom
the movies (and Barker) retconned it a bit to say that they are in fact from what we call Hell, Pinhead is THE high priest of a greater demon called Leviathan - thats the big black geometric shape you mightve seen and they torture people
its a bit odd considering that in the majority of irl codices, Leviathan is the demon prince of Envy and Beelzebub is the demon prince of Gluttony
>>
They are interdimensional beings serving a Lovecraftian elder god that invaded Hell and remade it in his image. Basically imagine aliens who happen to exist alongside Heaven and Hell but dont fit inside their paradigm. Like when the Vong invaded the Star Wars galaxy.

>order of the gash
really. that's the best they could come up with?
>>

Being that Clive Barker is a literal homo, yeah.

>Leviathan is the demon prince of Envy
Hence the themes of desire.

Is Spike the DVD one, or the camera one?
