>>224135787Localization isn't a rational process, it always seemed to me like it was born out of some bizarre assumed xenophobia that would make it impossible for audiences to like something that was slightly foreign, which is especially odd considering Pokémon was already a series about a world filled with new and fantastical creatures with funny names. I wonder if there really would have been some kids who were fully on board with the show, but would have tuned out if Brock said the words "rice ball"
I remember when I was a teenager I used to watch poorly dubbed and edited anime clips from 4kids on YouTube. I laughed my ass off.
If you want to complain about old anime English dubs, you guys should learn Japanese and watch some Japanese dubs of English speaking shows. It's 100x worse
>>224135824It's crazy how confidently you subhumans will opine on topics about which you know nothing. Have you ever actually worked in localization? Do you have any possible understanding of the demands workers were facing?Oh wait you're an ipad zoomer who's made chatGPT into a surrogate parent. Of course you don't understand what it was like back when people actually had to make decisions for themselves.>>224135913Wrong - you're just painfully ignorant about what's involved in the process of localization and the complex, multifaceted, and often contradictory goals of the aforementioned.>>224136026Literally every sentence in this post is incorrect, irrelevant, and frankly stupid. Your ignorance is not an argument. I will say it again: your ignorance is NOT an argument. If you think a decidedly rational process is somehow irrational, it's because you're either ignorant of the process itself or because you're ignorant of reason and logic. The most likely answer here is that you're ignorant of both.
>>224135913>some strange JapanophobiaThat was basically just the norm of the world. It gets worse. During the Orange Islands arc they temporarily replaced Brock with some gay 80s aerobics guy because, I kid you not, they thought Americans would interpret Brock as a negative Asian stereotype due to his squinty eyes but then they quickly realized that was dum and brought him back afterward.

There was definitely kino and quality in the first season at least, and it seemed to progressively go downhill unfortunately. It could unironically have been a great series if they aged up the characters in real time so there was a clear progression. By this point Ash could have had kids and they all have Pokemans and rivals with Gary's kids, etc.
