Anybody here play Fantasy Maiden Wars? How accurate is it to the lore?
>>4489333This page explains it well enough:https://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Gensou_Shoujo_Taisen
>>4489356"The storyline of Gensou Shoujo Taisen more or less follows that of the original Touhou games, but significantly expanded with great amounts of character development and foreshadowing. In addition to the expected casts, the plots work in characters from future games (such as Keine and Nitori being the first allied characters in the Embodiment of Scarlet Devil arc), characters who have never appeared in a game (such as Akyuu) and even characters from the PC-98 games. Similar to Super Robot Wars, some enemy characters who originally appeared only once become recurring bosses who are fought on multiple levels. Unlike Super Robot Wars, almost every named character joins your team after being defeated."Intresting, so it's like canon + extended fanfiction with more consistency. I'm not a fan of SRW type games, but I really want to get into Touhou without having to go through bullet hells or watching longplays.
>>4489358>I really want to get into Touhou without having to go through bullet hells or watching longplaysThat's exactly how it worked for me, you'll actually get more knowledge of side materials just by playing this one game than you would by playing/watching the original ones.Be warned though, Fantasy Maiden Wars is much better at storytelling and characterizing than any official work (which also translates into stronger yuri undertones), so you'll have to lower your expectations when you eventually branch out from one to the others.
>>4489359>be very afraid of good story tellingCute. But I just said I wouldn't be playing the bullet hell stuff, so it's not like I'm gonna play the official games any time soon.
>>4489419I warned you to be prepared because I ended up disappointed back in the day, I certainly didn't mean you should go for the worse alternative instead. The game is great but that will be it, all the worth you'll get afterwards is some pretty pictures and the occasional doujin one-shot.Touhou isn't some kind of long-running yuri epic, it's a glorified setting for minor derivative works, with but a handful of exceptions.
>>4489358>>4489419Read Perfect Memento in Strict Sense
>>4489785https://touhou.fandom.com/wiki/Perfect_Memento_in_Strict_SenseFrom the description here it seems to be like a look into and summary of the Touhou universe from an outsiders perspective. While that is interesting, I don't feel like it's really endearing me to the actual characters and story. And also it will not be very yuri...
>>4489977It's the basic databook for information on the setting and characters. If you're not planning to play the games, you should at the very least read this so you're not a fucking tertiary. And don't use fucking Fandom: https://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Perfect_Memento_in_Strict_Sense/Foreword
>>4489996Nothing you said changes anything about my point.
>>4492185It does. The setting is an integral part of the characters and the story, you can't "endear" yourself to them if you don't understand the world they live in. This should be the bare minimum if you can't ass yourself to play any of the games, otherwise you're a cancerous secondary with a shallow understanding of the franchise. If you can't even take 1 hour of your day to read through a short book, you don't deserve Touhou.
Just a massage.
