Everything dedicated to baihe for me and the five people that read it.

Personal recommendations:
>Anything created by Min Ran: Long Awaited Feelings, Where Sunlit Slopes Meet Gentle Waters, Bottled up
>Mortal Desires
>The Art of Taming the Dragon

Popular recommendations (that I’ve enjoyed):
>The Dragon
>Anything from PDL: JQWS, Female General Eldest Princess
>Miss Cousin is Always Busy

Official translations (ongoing or completed) Baihe:
>At her Mercy
>Creator’s Grace
>Beauty’s Blade
>The Clouds of Past Millenia
I didn’t add FPEG or JQWS because it’s on indefinite hiatus for English translations.

For anyone new to Baihe, expect relatively simplistic prose and often incoherent dialogue for a lot of the series. This is not an inherent flaw to the work itself, but rather the limitations of MTL or learning translators. In short: approach it with a grain of salt.

>Personal thoughts:
I am currently waiting for At Her Mercy and Creator’s Grace to be released. I heard great things about it. Also planning to read “She is the Third Kind of Stunning.” Fangsi has been on my radar for some time, but guzzling down a +1 millions word novel with ongoing translations is a recipe for hurt.

Something that makes me laugh is the overemphasis on how hot the fl or mc is. Like within the first introduction, almost without fail, is how either one or both is a peerless beauty that people are willing to topple kingdoms for. Then the next sentence is how they’re extremely intelligent, ridiculous strong, or unfathomably wealthy. It’s, unironically, really Chinese and Asian.

If anyone has read this far, my guilty pleasure and arguably the work that’s made my feel the most was solitary toss of tenderness. So melodramatic with a lack of elegance but still a personal 11/10.

Those thread are kinda pointless but I've been reading a lot of chinese yuri lately so I'll recommend Nine Summers of Divine Punishment, you can read it here

It’s a niche subject matter and I don’t doubt that this thread will drift off for five years or be booted within a week. But if /u/ has the equivalent of goblin girls scissoring oiled up threads then perhaps someone has the same autistic interest as me with baihe. It might seem repetitive since we already have a dedicated /lit/ and web novel thread, but I will maintain that Baihe is distinctive enough to be separate. The culture is vastly different and there’s enough material for people to chew over if they’re willing to give it a go.

It could be a useful platform thread if Seven Seas gets more aggressive with its licensing after Beauty's Blade's success.

It's all so repeitive and generic. I can't stand wuxia shit and it gets shoved into everything the same way isekai gets abused in Japanese media. I get that lesbians in chinaland have literally nothing to be happy about so they have to project a fantasy world where they can be openly gay, but can they drop the retarded cultivation and idiotic magic battles bit? It distracts from any emotional investment I could muster.

Unless you can read Chinese, it’s almost impossible to have a fair comparison between the translated and original work. We’re in a niche interest of a niche interest; many Chinese idioms or structures will naturally be lost when the amount of component translators are very few. We can say this to any translated work from any language, of course, but Chinese is notoriously complex and allegorical to references that Western audiences will never understand. Is the original work shallow? Maybe. But my point was that many translators will simplify, discard, or outright misinterpret - we’re usually missing a significant amount of context to give a definite answer.

This isn’t a specific critique to the Baihe cultivation/wuxia, but rather reminiscent of all wuxia novels. Most of the time it can be nonsensical vodoo-dodoo Chinese witchery that takes up half a page, but humans have a unique penchant for the familiar. It’s how Koreans love their Solo-Leveling dungeon crawlers and “I married the cold duke of the north” genres. If you’re really into interpersonal relationships, try Min Ran’s novels. She’s comparatively more mature on relationships (even though she is sometimes susceptible to “my wife is so hot, did you know she’s really hot?” dialogue).

I can't really agree, I like cultivation novels because they often do more with the story than just "girl meets girl and tries to win her over", not that I think "normal" yuri is bad but I'm someone that will always prefer Outside picnic rather than Adashima, and unfortunaly most of the "action" japanese yuri are simple garbage story wise, although I can understand people not liking cultivation shit too, it's a whole "power system" with so much nonsense and variety that unless you start with a novel that goes out their way to explain the system, you're just supposed to know everything by heart which for a newbie to chinese culture it's kinda difficult compared to just knowing about elfs, vampire and orcs by default.
