Official manga spin-off "Chou Kaguya Meshi!" released its first chapter in magazine Bibibi. It takes place after the movie epilogue (but before the Ray MV?). It revolves around Kaguyabot getting her sense of taste and the cast going around eating delicious food.

I haven't been able to keep up with these threads the last few months. Are any of the figure preorders dropping soon? I don't want to miss out on anything if I can help it. I've already missed an absolute ton of doujinshi that went out of stock because I wasn't diligent enough and I don't want to feel that pain again.

Perhaps from a yuri fan perspective, although I believe the movie is clear enough about the yuri that even general audiences are aware of it. And anybody who loves the movie enough to read it's (best selling) light novel will have no means of denying the yuri anymore.

But from a purely objective popularity perspective, this decision absolutely boosted the movie. There are simply many Japanese/Korean/Taiwanese people who dont want to see girls kissing on screen. And they can still enjoy the movie without being triggered. While the yuri is obvious and intentional enough that everyone else can enjoy it. In fact the lack of a kiss is what makes fan artists so much more intent on delivering it.
It is similar to the semi-open ending and gaps. You need to give the audience something to add on to.

I have been reading the Guidebook again and here is something really important that I noticed before. It's something that Nagae, the designer of the real world designs in the movie said. In regards to scens he wants people to pay attention to on a rewatch:

That scene always stood out to me so much. One thing a lot of people seem to get wrong on a shallow first impression is that Kaguya is an "airhead" or just totally straightforward in her actions. But Kaguya is actually SUPER cunning.

Aside from her emotional manipulation with her crocodile tears which she did from day 1, there is indeed the keyboard scene. She noticed that performing music makes Iroha happy and immediately leverages that. She asks to perform endlessly, because she wants to always see Iroha that happy. In the first place she saw Iroha's keyboard and obviously concluded Iroha likes music. So I am almost certain she intentionally went for doing music to involve Iroha in her Vtuber career.

There are many more moments like this. During the Kassen match she completely outplays Mikado in the second round and immediately psycho-analyses the guy she has barely interacted with before the match. Even mocks him for thinking she is an airheaded bimbo right there.
Of course this goes along with her tactical acumen, coming up with strategies on the fly.

Kaguya is an alien who has been around for a very long time and she absorbs information at an unprecedented rate. She is extremely cunning and the only thing holding her back is that she is rather impulsive. But people who think she did a huge 180 towards the fireworks section are simply not giving her credit. She figured out Iroha's social dynamics and intention without trouble, she just didn't bring it up till it was necessary. I mean the entire monologue about how she perceived humanity while watchintg them from the outside makes it extra obvious.
She understood Iroha's whole thing with her mother pretty much immediately and even noticed that Iroha still treated her as a child who couldn't understand the nuances back then. This whole exchange was her confirming Iroha's perspective once again.

There is also something fans speculated about in regards to turning herself blonde. The very first time Iroha had genuinely laughed/smirked in front of Kaguya (not counting the sarcastic laugh during their first meal together), was when she saw Kaguya as a "gyaru" in Tsukuyomi. Kaguya paid attention to that and immediately turned her hair blonde in the real world. She associated being blonde with Iroha smiling.
It's easy to forget, but Kaguya's real hair color has always been that dirte blonde/brownish shade. In the Ray MV you can see it in her reflection while she watches Earth from the moon. She only stuck with the golden blonde for Iroha. Which is also why as Yachiyo she switched to the gentle silver of the moon, as her brightness has decreased and she is no longer the "shining Kaguya" Iroha cares about.

Of course she also immediately understood that not only could nobody on Earth actually defeat the Lunarians, but she also accepted responsibility for her actions and still found a way to come back that satisfied all parties (if only that stupid asteroid hadn't been there).

That aside, one interesting part I learned from this is that they actually made Yuko Natsuyoshi perform World is Mine while lying down on a mattress in the studio to replicate the Miku cover moment lmao

On a more general note, if you aren't familiar with Vocaloid culture, this episode really drives home why it is so important to Japan and how basically everyone who is anything in anime or J-pop comes from the Niconicodouga pipeline.

Something important to note here is that this was drawn by Yamashita himself. This means whatever is going on here is the closest to his vision as we can get.
So what does this actually imply?

Well here is the zoomed in version. From what I can tell these are the specs for Yachiyo and... there is a tab for direct control and one for "AI mode.
Direct control is currently active and there are the neural bridge waves. This confirms it. Kaguyabot is controlling that Yachiyo actively right now.
But! AI mode implies that they can turn off direct control and let Yachiyo operate as just an AI without Kaguya's consciousness. This means that they are not seperate people, but rather that everyone who said there is an AI version of Yachiyo was correct. This is just a program who imitates Yachiyo until Kaguya takes direct control again.

FINALLY this headache is over.

I've said this before, but I'm amazed that theory managed to stay alive for so long, even though it obviously conflicted with everything that was accomplished in the movie.
It was probably a mixture of people being paranoid that the trumpeted happy ending wasn't really happy for some reason, and others just wanting separate Kaguya and Yachiyo characters for some other reason, it always baffled me one way or the other.

But that is not a reason to actually withhold important info imo. The same way I would have prefered if they had a kiss in the movie and didn't cut out so much of Iroha's romantic feelings for Kaguya from the screen time. At least we had the Light Novel from week one so there was never really any room to deny the yuri, but without the novel I can see how some hetshitters could genuinely force the issue, even if anybody with a brain could read between the lines and understand that the whole movie is a love story.

That's a moot point, for example a lot more het fanworks could exist if they were even more vague about the yuri vibes, but you're sacrificing the actual story for it, so definitely not worth it.
If I get out of a movie not knowing what's actually going on at the end, and neither do a ton of overanalyzing geeks for months, that's bad writing.
I understand that spelling everything our loud is sometimes not as elegant as clever implications and symbolism, but some authors go way overboard with it and turn it into an excuse to not do their own work, i.e. telling the damn story.

She isn't, this is literally her right now. AI mode is turned off. I don't know whether this is related to why they buried the spaceship or whether it's just symbolic or emotional for herself to see it being done as "all three of them" or whatever, but the AI isn't involved.
Obviously we can speculate more, like they are gathering data for the AI to work with so it can function just like the real Yachiyo (knowing about the details of Kaguya's personal life so she can operate correctly).

In a broader sense, yes. Because they are digital life forms. But they are different in the sense that they have souls. That is the entire crux of the spaceship situation. Kaguya is a digitized soul trapped inside the spaceship because it is broken and out of energy. If she was just data, she could have been transfered to any suficient data storage device, but she has an actual soul that has to be transfered into an appropiate body (this is also most likely the reason Yachiyo had a 52 hour time limit before she needed to go into maintance mod/rest). This is beyond anything a mere AI construct could be.

On the other hand, it does also confirm that Kagyua's soul can control multiple bodies at the same time, because in that picture she's controlling both the KG body and the Yachiyo avatar at the same time. And also that it's not a big deal for her to stop controlling the Yachiyo avatar. Which seems super obvious, given her ability to control multiple Yachiyo clones simultaneously earlier in the movie, but also means that in the epilogue concert it can be Kaguya's soul in both the KG body and the Yachiyo avatar simultaneously, and that if Iroha just gets the YC body working, there's nothing stopping Kaguya from choosing between the KG body and the YC body on any given day (or possibly even no body at all, though I suspect she wouldn't often pick that option), or even inhabiting both at the same time.
Honestly, I think the reason a lot of people misunderstood the situation is motivated reasoning because they simply liked seeing Iroha interact with both Kaguya and Yachiyo at the same time, but the actual answer still allows double dates and threesomes if Kaguya wants to do that (and which does seem in character for her).
The interesting question to me has always been exactly how her ability to control multiple bodies works. I think it being simply a slider to control the Yachiyo avatar directly or let the AI do it implies it is not a permanent split of her soul. So is it her splitting her soul and then rejoining it once she's done, in which case while split the part of her in one body can know things the parts of her in other bodies don't? Or is she simply conscious in all of her different bodies at once?

They already stated Kaguya's soul wasn't compatible with the YC type body, so I assume the physical body has to really fit the shape of her soul. Meanwhile in Tsukuyomi they just create an avatar, which is why she could freely alter her appearance. Under that light I doubt they will ever put Kaguya into another body or make her control one.
Also let's not forget that the Ray MV implied that Iroha makes Kaguya "truly human" whatever that means, so I believe she will become a lot more organic and won't be body switching at all.

As for how she controls the Yachiyo avatar in Tsukuyomi, Kaguya is still in a robot body, so her computing power should be far above a normal human's. I think having a subroutine going that she can control in the background isn't too farfetched and since she already has experience controlling multiple POVs at once this is pretty up her alley. Though she clearly needs to connect directly to Tsukuyomi for it. No mind split or anything like that. And she might not even have to do anything with her soul, considering everyone can log into Tsukuyomi and control and avatar.

Did they? The scene I'm thinking of, with Kaguya first waking up in the KG body, only says that it's a "better fit" than the YC body. But there's not any more detail than that, certainly nothing to me that implies that it's an insurmountable hurdle rather than just a technical issue that was harder to solve than switching to the KG body for the moment. Arguably, the story at least raises the possibility for non-matching bodies in other contexts too, given Noi's interest in getting one that matches his avatar.
