I dunno, are there any lesbians this season?

Lesbians are usually seen most often during this season, but the Super El NiƱo affected their migratory patterns this year.

There's one in Keroro Gunsou

I think Magic Knight Rayearth has lesbians, but that could just be the Spanish dub accidentally changing someone's gender or something.

>>4609657
so next season maybe?
>>
>>4609659
Rayearth is super het. I don't know about the international dubs, but the japanese original is 1000% straight. The most gay you get is fujobait in the 2nd arc with Eagle and Lantis (but Lantis is also Hikaru's love interest, so it lives up to the bait part in fujobait)

Hopefully four chapters is enough to print a tankoban so they could include a themed promo magic card. Would be the first chance at getting an official yuri card in the literal sense to go with all the existing lesbian couples that have cards today. Tired of nissa and chandra which have such cobbled together shitty lore that they remind me of harley and ivy. The few other /u/ couples have very little story behind them but at least the art of them is occasionally nice.

I believe the previous promos were just reprints, with only the final volume having new art, so I wouldn't expect much.
>nissa and chandra which have such cobbled together shitty lore
To be fair that's pretty much all the central characters now, and I don't expect it to get better with the focus on UB sets.

>Why are hetfags so disgusting.
That's their nature, to be stupid and believe they are right, while forcing things that don't really work.
The funny thing about Oreimo is that everything is irrelevant in the end. The incest and the romantic drama are ultimately meaningless because the couple breaks up at the end and it's treated as just a phase. What was the whole damn point?

The animation kind of sucks and all the characters have stupid names, but I enjoyed it overall. The earliest seasons are the weakest, but it improves as it goes on, with a pretty strong final season. If you're into foe yay, or want something with a lot of fanfiction it might be worth it.

>Ange Vierge
I think I somehow conflated this with Cross Ange and skipped over it. Is it worth watching?
>>
>>4610653
>>Kannazuki no Miko
This is an adaptation; the fact that it's basically different from the manga doesn't make it an original.

>Hina Logi
>Akanesasu Shoujo
>Valkyrie Drive Mermaid
>Ange Vierge
Multimedia projects, I don't know how original they can be considered, at least they have several starting continuities.

>>Koihime Musou
It's still an adaptation, AoKana could fall into the same category, remove the het, turn it into yuri and discover that the original was stupid and its anime is what made it relevant.

>>4610659
Yes, it's great, not only because when the MC learns humility and ends up charming her companions who previously didn't notice her, but also because of the explicit incestuous relationship.

>>4610647
Like what? I hold out hope that there are yuri equivalents to such stories, or if not, lay it out there for creators to do it kek
>>
>>4610779
Define "bad ending" here
Is it a sad separation or tragic ending?. Or something that is badly written?. WfM is certainly rushed and could've been much better (though Lara shows you can have infinitely worse written ending). I'm not gonna die on any hill defending the writing. But it's certainly a happy ending: Miorine and Suletta are married, and aren't separated for stupid reasons and clearly lead a happy life as wives
In terms of writin the Franxx director is working in Grotesque (which is what started this conversation. Someone asking expectations about the movie),. so I don't expect any segment to have better writing than WfM, given the hackjob that Darling was
>>
>>4610796
The problem is that this Anon isn't discrediting the ending, but the entire series based on nothing relevant, simply dismissing it without any real reason or foundation, just because they don't like the series for reasons, even though in general terms WfM isn't a bad anime and is yuri through and through.

We have LWA we don't need genderswap bullshit
>>
>>4610847
Mtf will never be yuri.
>>
>>4610850
>>4610848
See. This isn't genderbend. The idea is that this is an AU where the characters are female from birth
Saying this isn't yuri is like saying Fate Artoria x Mordred or Nobunaga x Okita drawings are not yuri because all these characters were men in the real world (or their myth in the case of Artoria and Mordred), even though they were born female in Fate
Is Sengoku Otome not yuri now because the samurai were male in reality?.
I'm not trying to defend the HP trend here, mind you. I'm just being autistic about the differences between genderbend where a male character transforms into female and genderswap where an story takes an existic character, historical or mythical figure and imagines this character or figure was always the opossite gender.
The difference between Onimai's MC and Nero or Artoria from Fate
>>
>>4610851
None of them are yuri.

Not because of MTF stuff but because people need to get some taste and respect yuri instead of begging for scraps from het. Male characters are inherently worse than female characters, who again are inherently worse if they are het. Why would you ever want a yuri version of a male character? Even if said character is King Arthur or Jesus or Karl Marx or whoever the fuck and not Popular Generic Weeb MC #2352.
>>
>>4610852
>female Frodo and Sam tho
>>
>>4610852
Which is incredibly silly, especially considering the existence of Sengoku Collection, the aforementioned Sengoku Otome, Koihime Musou, and even those odd official series where the originally male protagonist is now female yes, all of this is yuri, they are alternate timelines characters who, as previously mentioned, were women from the very beginning.
>>
>>4610852
Even the games thread's resident police larper who is super strict has no problem with Hakunon x Nero from Fate/Extra. Despite Nero Claudius being a male emperor in real life
You're being autistic.

The anime is just going to be living in subtext hell since this has a dozen volumes so 12 eps will have no progress.
>>
>>4611123
Maintext can never be subtext. No one calls the lord of hetshit slow burns and no progress (Rent Girlfriend) subtext. Shut the fuck up. Even without muh progress, slow burn maintext is still slow burn maintext. Maintext isn't only "they fuck and kiss on screen", you complete subhuman

I'll take mid quality confirmed maintext over muh sakuga super deep symbolic direction originalshit that shits on yuri completely like Laratrash

A Blooming Complex is so great.
Now I crave more stories about a loli seducing a high school girl.
>>
>>4610335
Yes.
The bulk of it is in the latter half of the manga with the Newspaper and Art club, where one of the girls is explicitly in love with another, and the focus of the manga almost completely shifts and has them take over the manga from there on out while the rest of the story gets resolved half-assed in like the last 3 chapters. Then the author made a spin-off featuring just the new girls that takes place in a different timeline than asobi asobase (just go with it) which is very yuri.
There's also some side characters like the the occult club girls who are pretty shippable and even adopt their own child who is actually a vampire, who i think was also in love with her childhood friend, but that goes nowhere and ends because she gets scared off by her childhood friends demonic baby
Then theres Fujiwara who appears in one episode of the anime who falls in love with a girl, then is never mentioned again.

The big plot with Kasumi falling in love with Tsugumi and trying to find out whether or not theyre a girl or boy goes nowhere until i think the final chapter where its revealed that theyre actually a genderless lab experiment sent to protect Kasumi

Got our English review for GROTESQQQUE
https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/review/grotesqqque/anime-film/.242677

>The closing segment, ā€œNocturne: Nuit Grotesque,ā€ marks a major shift in pace, easing concerns that GROTESQQQUE might get too overwhelming. The animation's just as beautiful as in the other segments, but it loses the hyperactivity; the soundtrack switches gears from J-pop to classical. This is a serious post-apocalyptic vampire yuri drama with intriguing reflections on mortality — imagine Girls' Last Tour meets the Marceline the Vampire Queen backstory episodes of Adventure Time, if Marceline had a polycule. In this short's world, vampires can see the residue of death that humans can't. Vampire souls are immortal even if their body gets killed — and rather than taken as a source of comfort, this idea of an everlasting soul beyond the body is treated as a source of pain. Thought-provoking and emotional, it's the one part of GROTESQQQUE I can safely recommend to viewers not fully accustomed to Imaishi-esque, extreme, hyperactive anime nonsense.

What degree of explicitness are you looking for? Because there's a bunch of stuff like Hakumei to Mikochi or Slime Taoshite. There's Neji's Beauty and the Beast Girl. >>
>>4611888
One or more of them lusts after the male MC. I just know it.

>>4611902
That implies they'll make it to the Raildex timeline.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>4611888
This series lives off cheap fanservice, which will ultimately be completely irrelevant. The target audience for this series is the handful of idiots who didn't consider Index obsolete after season 3, even though, ironically, Index only exists to promote Railgun, which literally uses moe bait. The other spin-offs are just an excuse to milk the people who stopped caring about Index a long time ago.

>>4611902
>>4611915
Index is a less complex series than its fans want to believe (the novel where Touma faces Otinus gets stupider the more you think about it). These girls only exist for fanservice or to lust after one of the protagonists and absolutely nothing else; in the best-case scenario, they're swept under the rug and never reappear (like the trio from the underground tournament).

>>4611890

im not even anti-AI, but using it in to promote an event full of creatives has to be the most boneheaded move possible. The equivalent of promoting a music festival with AI music, it's just a spit in the face for the community, and i really doubt the explanation of the marketing being outsourced as their response tweet made it pretty obvious they were aware of and supported it beforehand.

Having the event cancelled because of the fuckup is a shame though.

Maybe I'll get some hate for saying this, but I kinda miss it when homophobia was a more common drama trope.
Nowadays it feels like they'd rather go for a sudden love triangle instead or the fear of coming out just amounts to "if I confess we won't be friends anymore".
>>
>>4612294
So you just want higher steaks and more drama, or is this also about some deeper storytelling, girls actually figuring out who they are and how they feel about girls in general and not just that one lover?
>>
>>4612294
I only like it when the homophobic girl turns out to be the gayest.
>>
>>4612296
For the former, I wouldn't say that I want "more" drama, just some more variety.
And I don't really mind the "you're the only one for me" trope so not exactly the latter either.
But the higher stakes and more introspective aspects of it are always nice.
>>

>>
>>4612271
You're giving too much credit to someone known for, as I said, being stuck in the 2000s. Come on, even Nasu, with the same problem, has done better things, but they don't work that well either. The obligatory het is in his veins. The most yuri something like Railgun has is in the filler that Index fans hate so much for showing that the relationship between the girls is important. The main work makes it very clear how important the men are (that's why level 5 girls are inferior to level 5 men).

Anything yuri is either accidental or the work of someone else, but as long as it's subject to the same continuity, it will never change. But for a spin-off in another continuity, it would have to be a radically different story.
>>
>>4612294
>>homophobia was a more common drama trope.
The current problem is that it would feel a bit cheap to resort to that element. I understand the idea, but it's not something that helps develop a romance that much. It might work for some lesbian drama, but not for a yuri as such.

>>"if I confess we won't be friends anymore".
I think this is getting mixed up with the childhood friend syndrome, where the friend feels comfortable in her status quo of being the friend, and out of fear never crosses that line. Then a new friend arrives who doesn't have that same invision. In the end, people just make fun of the friend for being a coward and not understanding that losing that friendship can also be a problem; going back to the way things were isn't as easy as the viewer thinks.

It's funny how the same people that are staunch advocates of using the right pronouns and not misgendering people sure enjoy misgendering characters and pushing their agenda onto them.
In a way they're even more heteronormative than actual hetfags lmao.
>>
>>4612344
The worst part is that even when they are proven otherwise canonically and officially, they prefer to live in their bubble and echo chambers (especially with a nest of stupidities like bluesky).

I just hope that by the time the real anime premieres, those people will be busy with other nonsense or they'll all have been devoured by the Tremors worms.

>>

Actually, I wasn't saying that Nirvana's music was the problem, but rather that it would give the anime recognition and notoriety for the wrong reasons. In fact, that was the reason why "those" foolish people came to know this series and give their wrong opinions.
>>
>>4612367
>>4612374
Personally, I've never had a problem with J-pop and its derivatives; some work quite well, and others are forgettable. No, mainstream series don't do things right; those are the most mediocre openings and endings imaginable and I'm not even talking about the pseudo-artistic garbage for snobby assholes like the openings of Tokyo Ghoul Season 2, Fractale, Horosu Mosuku, Kaiju N8 Season 1, and a whole bunch of other crap.
Openings and endings are a sensitive topic for me. I hate it when people can't distinguish an opening from just the song, and I'm prepared to strangle them with my bare hands to prove it.
>>
I prefer it when anime OPs are death metal like PassCode.
>>
>>4612379
The scene is much more varied than people think and just complain about (those people don't watch anime). Although I remember disasters like the opening themes of Zombie Loan and Mushigyo, whose openings were mediocre and their songs didn't help, I think that's part of the reason why those series failed.

Although I said that because I could swear the first one had Queen Bee, though I could be wrong. Personally, I had to fast-forward through the first OVA to make sure no men appeared so I could watch it without any issues. I don't trust the hentai industry.

>>4612798
I'm sure it's been like that for a while now. For example, Melon went even further by directly preventing malicious foreigners from accessing the site, requiring a Japanese phone number for registration, and offering terrible options for purchases from abroad.
>>
>>4612800
Aren't these animations indie projects?. This is why they take so long. It's basically the creator and their friends doing it, not any major studio. Thus why the first was so limited.

Dumb story but at least it's monogamy so it's okay to wash Watanare's stain. That shit's budget should've gone to Sasakoi.

I'm not one to buy LNs but I've been wondering.
How common are box sets?
I kinda want to get all of Adachi & Shimamura but if there's a chance we'll get a box set at some point I might as well wait a little more.

>>
>>4612939
Are you talking about a localized copy or the original jp book? The answer for both is that it depends. Sometimes when a jp final volume comes out for an LN the bookstores will sell a store exclusive box you can put all the volumes in. I don't see this happen for LNs on series I follow but I have a few for manga. For localization it really is up to the licensor if they want to bundle it in a new way when the series finishes. I also haven't seen that happen yet other than otherside getting omnibus versions that merge multiple books into 1 binding.
>>
>>4612947
I'd probably be getting the EN version, yeah.
Wonder how the number of volumes correlates to their decision making.
Adachi and Shimamura has 13 + the side stories, so a box set for that would be pretty huge huh?

Do you mean girls who are openly in love with each other, or two girls acting as the mothers of a fairy girl?
>>
>>4612987
>Somehow I doubt it
It's grade schoolers, they don't even experience and understand how their bodies work. This target audience is literally too young to understand the topic.

>>

I think you're vastly underestimating that audience, especially considering they're the ones most open to yuri; it's the teenagers who are stupid about yuri, especially Western ones.

Collaborative yuri storytelling game, seems pretty similar to the "Once Upon a Time" card game. Kind of lame that that cards aren't illustrated though. Also, where the hell could you find six players for this?

Wasn't somebody trying to shill a robot anime this season, Vertex something or other? The MC is a shota, so I'm not sure if the trailers were misleading or if the poster was just an idiot.
>>
>>4613062
Nope, never brought up here.
>>
>>4613062
The Shota is literally the MC (yes, I'm seeing that). The CG is pretty mediocre and I could swear it's only CG to have consistency in the size of the boobs and forced ecchi, but even with the girls having robot Stand powers, the Shota already showed to be superior to his sister with ridiculous ease, frankly it's pretty bad.

>>if the poster was just an idiot.
Partly yes, on the other hand, and to be fair, at the beginning the Shota character wasn't shown and it seemed like a normal all-girls project, then everything went downhill, even though it's in the same vein as FAG, but there's literally 0 hype and it honestly deserves it, too mediocre for now to leave an impact and that's saying a lot in such a bad season.
>>
>>4613054
I don't see the point of buying this if there are no illustrated cards at all. At least the other yuri card games look nice when I don't play them.

Just finished Uta~kata.
I didn't care for it, the show is het for like 95% of the runtime. Ichika does get kissed by a girl, but its revealed manatsu is just a mirror spirit born from Ichikas reflection, and then she disappears (twice if you count the special), so not sure if that really counts, and the rest of the show is her in love with a man.
There was also a (maybe) subtext side couple with her two friends who comfort eachother after one of them gets dumped by a guy, and the two girls can be seen holding hands and stuff for the rest of the show after.

There was also a lot of stuff i expected to them to bring back up, like Ichika's childhood friend subplot, or Satsukis backstory, but theyre never mentioned again. Bit weird, but im glad the show didnt do what a lot of series tend to do and give everyone a detailed flashback and instead let you fill in the pieces yourself.

>I feel as if they always feature the same story in a slightly different setting

Ironically, that has never happened, not even with the same author, and that’s true even when works share certain similarities, as is the case with Hidamari Sketch and GA. This is something that simply doesn’t occur in Shonen Jump or at that other publisher known for having the most stale, uninspired light novels.
>>
>>4613587
I mean it's not meant to be a bad thing. I loved Koisuru Asteroid for example, I was the one who just picked up on it.
It always seems to be a kind of typical CGDCT kind of story, 4koma, a group of school girls with one shared interest having some light-hearted fun with that specific interest. Meanwhile, they might get flirty with each other, there might even be some clear cut love interests and those might even be at the heart of the plot, even though it's soft. It's always fluffy, wholesome, innocent.
Just a very similar vibe, it just feels the same, and that feeling is good. since that's my subjective impression, I could just get drawn to these stories because of my subjective preference for everything fluffy.
I'm thinking specifically about Koisuru Asteroid (obviously), Hatsukoi Rail Trip, Bocchi the Rock and K-On.

Like Hibimeshi, they suddenly embraced yuri in all the promotional materials after the broadcast run ended.
>>
>>4613915
>>suddenly embraced yuri
Well, you couldn't really call it "sudden" per se; the anime—both Hibimeshi and Ruri Rocks—placed a certain emphasis on the *yuri* elements, or the relationships between the girls. The fandom embraced these pairings with great enthusiasm, and the people in charge of promotion simply capitalized on what the audience wanted to see. This goes to show that there isn't actually as much of a disconnect between those behind a series and its audience as many might claim.
>>
>>4613917

It also shows subtext is to be taken seriously. After all, whether it's overt or not, it was deliberately put there. Many argue against subtext because they think it's the same as two friends acting close with each other somewhere. That is often nothing. But when someone writes a story they make choices that communicate something. Sure, it may end up being bait sometimes. But in the case of Ruri Rocks with that author, it was very clearly going to be serious. Hibimeshi was also really sweet and well done. There was intention. People who are virtually illiterate always let intention fly right over their heads.
>>
>>4613943
Exactly; if it’s there in the first place, it’s intentional. Many people seem to have lost sight of what subtext actually is, they haven’t the faintest fucking clue what it means or how it functions. It’s not about "free interpretation" or making assumptions; it’s about seeing what lies beneath the surface, something that is entirely intentional. Excuses about "female friendship" are just that, excuses. Anyone who has actually watched these series can see that, even in the gayest of contexts, there is a clear distinction between love and friendship among the characters (nobody pairs Nagisa with Yaya in Strawberry Panic!).
