I have a weird urge to play Space Engineers and build some ugly as shit mining ships for 50 hours but I probably shouldn't do it again.

>mining ships
For me it's mining rovers with a retractable crane arm that can dig 100m into the earth.
Also forces you to interact with the god awful automation systems.

is this ksp with actual content?

>want to build a fuckhuge battleship before I start fighting stuff
>look up info, some guy on reddit says that artillery turrets can engage at 2km and assault cannons can engage at 1.2km
>spend hours and hours designing and building a fuckhuge mobile base battleship with built around long range engagements, complete with a billion artillery and assault cannon turrets, point defense gatling guns, layered armour, redundant life support systems, power systems, engines and conveyers, extensive living quarters, multiple jump drives, vents to access every part of the ship for easy repairs, a hangar bay, massive cargo storage, secondary control rooms, everything anyone could ever need, true engineering masterpiece
>the 2km information was bullshit, enemy ai ships get way too close for comfort and 90% of the guns randomly stop working(i still havent been able to figure out wtf this was or reproduce the issue) and it just gets raped by smaller ships rushing into point blank range with railguns and/or ramming
>repair it
>some other online source says that if you use ai blocks they can engage at 2km
>set that up
>guns immediately turn around and fire on our own ship
>repair it
>friend borrows it and then parks it in a gravity well without noticing then goes offline

Really soured the experience for me ngl. Might get back into it with the new survival update but it seems like megaships just aren't practical and thats very upsetting to me.

i've played this waaay back in the day, is there any sort of story/goals or is it still just a full sandbox game?

Damn, it's infectious.

The game needs a means to advance to a part where you actually automate shit and scale it up, operating entire fleets of AI-controlled ships that your automated factories push out.

I get this urge frequently but they patched the free DLC trick and i'm too lazy to figure out creamAPI on linux.
Not giving these kikes a penny for refusing to fix the game.

What i'd like is npcs, and maybe a deeper economy to go alongside them. Npcs could harvest unique resources on every planet to help you with economics/progression so you have reason to build colonies wherever you go and populate the galaxy with cozy space houses/towns. They could be crew on your ships too, giving you more reason to build larger and more realistic ships with living quarters and stuff.

Who knows, I only remember some map from years ago with an empty settlement full of personal logs and some security systems kicking your ass. Didn't even finish it because lag was too much for me.
There really needs to be a combo of this, Ostranauts and some sort of strong story/worldbuilding to keep you awake

Me too. I have no friends to play with so its boring. There are mods but as far as I know its just enemy ships and drones to fight against.

So, I started a new survival world.
>Star System
>Moon spawn
>Character and block inventory limit: realistic
>Welding and grinding speed: realistic
>Hunger rate: normal
>Solar radiation: normal

Ask what a jolly fucking good time I had.

mindless grind because there's no conflict, interest or challenge beyond "get bigger number of thing"?

I kinda want to spawn one of those dlc planets and blow it up to the max size that the game can properly render them and drive some big fuck off Thunderbirds looking mobile base across it and have a station 'in orbit'
