>find old psvita>mod the shit out of it>bright and colorful>not sound loss>optimized games from ps1>runs better than PC emulation>high quality OLED screenwhat the fuck? How is the Vita so powerful even after 10+ years?
>>720792010PSP was a master at emulation and so would that thing beDoubt it could run GC, ps2 or Xbox though
I think the vita can play 3ds games
>>720792074it can run ffx effortlessly. this shit is better than a steam deck
>>720792010the fact that there’s just a PSP built into the Vita is crazy to mesuch an excellent system ruined by proprietary storage and the rise of cell phones but yeah, modded with SD card support and pkgj and adrenaline, it’s the best handheld evernow if we could get a steam deck level of performance down to a vita form factor
>>720792970Its called a GPD win 4 and its fucking expensive
>>720792010The big difference with the psp and the vita is that the psp benefits from hacking in a complete overhaul handheld companion that supplements the psp as a whole. The vita needs hacking out of necessity for circumventing their shitty proprietary memory until an adapter was released, and put non vita games on it because most are lackluster.
>>720792010is it better than the switch?
>>720793059Why lie on the internet, you think $700 is expensive? The most expensive deck is close to that and the 6800u is much faster.
>High quality OLED screenThat's not the whole story and you know it.Pic related is Retroid Pocket 4 Pro LCD (top) vs Vita (bottom)So while yes it does have favorable comparisons vs LCD, modern OLED blows it the fuck out and I imagine a better LCD could also give it a run for its money.I will post some other comparison shots if I can to demonstrate, since I feel like "omg OLED vita!" has become a bit of a meme at this point.
>>720793702fuck you furfag
>>720793619$700 is a lot for a chinky children's toy yes. most people won't pay even $500 to play video games.
>>720792010I've got a PSTV in the mail. I've also got a Vita somewhere at my parents' place, but I couldn't find it last I checked. What should I play, fellas? I mostly used it for Metal Gear Solid in the past.
>>720793702I own an OLED Switch, an OLED smartphone and an OLED monitor, PS Vita's OLED holds up pretty well. It's a bit worse but still well above any LCD.
>>720793778Valkyrie Profile Lenneth
>>720793619>$850 = $700>$1500 for the 890m version
>>720793702This is why I got the LCD Vita. The OLED on the first Vita is way too saturated.
>>720792010Now imagine how easy it would be for Sony to make a successor. They could keep exactly the same form factor, jack the specs up, fix the storage problem and make the pitch that "fifteen years later, the Vita's successor is launching at the same price - just $250".
>>720793946I've noticed OLED panels made for game consoles specifically have some insane color saturation levels. The Switch OLED completely blows out reds, pic related, but I can't help but admit it actually looks decent during gameplay, really pops.
>>720794340The reds on my OLED Zelda Switch were really blown out and was kind of hard to look at.
>>720793778Hotline Miami
>>720794432There's a system setting to swap between the default "vivid" and more natural saturation settings, if you weren't aware. Might help.
>>720792970Closest you'll get is a Retroid Pocket 5
>>720794292>fix the storage problemHahahahahahahaha. Sony would never allow themselves to not charge $300 for a 3gb memory card
>>720793946you're a soulless bug
the oled is only good compared to the lcds of the era, it's lesser than many lcds todaythe only "true black" you get are what is under the mura effect, otherwise it's as bright of a black as modern tn
>>720794737On the other hand the d-pad was pure sex that they chanced upon by sheer accident, refinement of the GBA SP d-pad. Eclipsed now by Retroid Pocket d-pads and those 8bitdo Ultimate and Pro 3 d-pads though, I even liked the Steam Deck clicky button and d-pad kits as a very similar idea with rubber membrane over a microswitch (mouse click) instead of a dome switch
>find old psp 1k with a 1gb memory card>hack it>apparently almost all games are 1gb+at least i have final fantasy tactics which is 700mb and spider man 2
>>720794808i'm not a fan of clicky, i think dsi soured me on it across the boardhaven't played so many games where i have a lot of hours with vita's pad though, most of what i played was stick based so the d-pad's clickiness was responsive seeming for, you know, menus i guesswill always prefer sega style d-pad if it's d-pad heavy timebut i admit to being a freak that prefers steam controller's capacitive pad being mapped as d-pad over clicky pads
>>720794845then just get a SD 2 Vita and any microsd you want?
>>720794965maybe i will, just wanted to use my old one that i got from my dad as a young childlooked around online and they're surprisingly cheap when compared to like a 3ds that costs like 10x as much as a vita
Here's a direct comparison with Retroid Pocket 5 OLED (top) and Vita OLED (bottom) at full brightness. The Vita does okay with darker colors but without that modern brightness it's pretty outclassed. Most shots look similarly dim and drab when side by side like this. With the Vita being what it is these days, I honestly find it to be a pretty hard recommendation.
>>720794937>but i admit to being a freak that prefers steam controller's capacitive pad being mapped as d-pad over clicky padsI am actually fucking nauseous reading this
>>720792010PSP games look like ass on it tbqhwys
>>720795112just remember it has haptic feedback in d-pad mode so it's not so bad for 8 direction movement games, it gives plenty of feedback just with zero thumb pressure
>>720792010I love my vita but now that I have a modded PS3 and CRT I don't really play it much as I'd much rather play PS1 games on my PS3, and I played the PSP library to death on my actual PSP, on top of playing most of the vita stuff I was already interested in.
>>720793736Why is this always the reply it is like autism. It is as chinky as the deck is chinky you colossal faggot tranny
>>720795106PS Vita is nice to hold. That RP5 is such a shit pain to hold unless you buy a "grip"
>>720795812Ok there baby hands
>>720795854My hands are too big actually.Always got cramps on the RP5Less so on the Vita.
>>720795812Not really sure what you mean. The Retroid is slightly MORE ergonomic. Those built in grips are shit, yes, but there are no grips at all on the Vita.I use grips on both so I guess it really is just a subjective thing.
>>720792010The problem was never with the hardware. I remember wishing Sony would support it so I could justify buying one, but they never did.
>>720792010I got 2 of those SD2Vita pieces of shit and they were both fucked. Now I use my 64 GB Vita card on the Vita and a USB-NVME drive for the PS TV.
>>720795972It feels like shit to hold. It fatigues your hands very quickly due to the inline placement of the analog sticks, paired with the flat back design it just feels like shit to hold. We all know it's so they can sell more of their shitty official grips. Maybe my hands are too big who knows but I never once had any issues holding the vita.
>>720795812>PS Vita is nice to holdNot really in my experience. Ergonomics are okay, but stll feels slightly 'off' in some ways>Slightly squishy triggers>Speakers next to the joysticks rather than anywhere else that wouldn't get covered>Start/Select and home buttons flush with the body (something that Sony realised was retarded and fixed in the slim model)Overall I still think the PSP is a lot nicer to hold
>>720795812>mfw my hands are so big all my handhelds need grips otherwise my hands cramp upthe hori grip for the N3DSXL is so nice though it was totally worth it
>>720793702This. It's a little odd to see OLEDs bandied about as uniformly superior. Some are better than others, as anyone that's noticed Mura or are sensitive to PWM knows. Even in terms of color reproduction.
One more comparison image, this time with a PlayStation Portal LCD. Again, I'd say the Portal is going to offer an overall better image even without true blacks. Screen brightness is only part of the issue though, you can see how highlights just pop better on newer screens. Detail is being lost not from resolution but from color reproduction.Just shows how far both LCD and OLED tech has come.
>>720796901When they finally discover MicroLED there will never be any reason ever to get an OLED in any way shape or form.
>>720796951oled will be cheaper than microled, oled was designed to be the cheap display technology
>>720796951>>720797341Was about to comment on this too.I think MicroLED will have its place but my understanding is that to get the contrast high they need like 100,000 dimming zones or some shit. Will probably continue to be a viable high end option, especially for those who need brighter panels.
>>720796901>Just shows how far both LCD and OLED tech has come.I'd say most screens these days (that is, from the last decade or so) are perfectly fine regardless of type. It used to be common practice to buy a TV or monitor and fiddle with it for an hour to get it to look somewhat decent no matter the make or model. Nobody has to do that anymore. There's variance but not like there used to be.
>>720797435>but my understanding is that to get the contrast high they need like 100,000 dimming zonesthat's miniled, miniled is "lcd" with a fancy backlightmicroled is per-subpixel lighting like oled, but the manufacturing process has been ridiculous and they're having difficulty making displays small (4k is about 90 inches minimum right now?)oled is cheaper than most lcd to manufacture but it's expensive on the consumer end because they're recouping r&d cost and there's more machinery for lcd than oled (and they just charge more because people pay more)
For anyone who owns one of these, do you also happen to know of any cases with a zipper that can snugly house a Vita that has this grip on it? I'm afraid of taking my Vita with me on trips because I have no way to keep both this thing and the Vita safe and covered in a backpack.
>>720792010I bought one of these but never used a vita before, so I have no idea if my thumbsticks are just broken are just naturally really sensitive to touch, I tried playing an fps games on the vita and trying to aim with that stick was near impossible, besides that problem it makes a great early gen emulation machine, and can even play violated heroine
>>720799809I was too lazy to buy a case so my solution to this was storing my vita in a big old winterhat
>>720792074PSP was a GOAT system, I loved mine so fucking much. That being said, it couldn't emulate anything past GBA. It played PS1 game natively and every system from previous generations just fine, but that was it. It couldn't run N64 at all.
>>720792010Crazy amount of cool ports to this, all of them play pretty solid too since you can just overclock the cpu whenever. Playing Bully/Undertale/GTA SA in bed is comfy
>>720792010>get Steam Deck>never touch Vita again
>>720802545>buy console for 600 bucks to emulate playstation games (the only games worth emulating)>or buy a vita capable of emulating all playstation games for only 50 buckstough choice
>>720802632I use my Steam Deck to play modern low performance games. If there's something the Steam Deck can't run, I just use Moonlight. Vita can do this too but the wifi card isn't as good or stable as the Deck.
>>720794292There's too much competition with the Steam Deck and other steam deck clones.
>>720793619>$700Yeah it's a cost of mid puter/craptop which will perform much betterIf you want chinkheld you gotta get one on arm, much better battery life and half the price or lower Hell if you want you can get 20 usd chinkheld that will run everything up to dreamcast full speed nowadays 500+ usd is too much for a portable no matter how you spin it
>>720796901
>>720792010I'm playing my PS1 games on adrenaline If it could play PS2 games it would be god tier it just has to stay as very good for now.
>>720802632Vita cant emulate PS2, Gamecube or anything above it son.
>>720802632Show me a modded vita for 50 thats not abused to shit
>>720792970>now if we could get a steam deck level of performance down to a vita form factorhonestly with a screen and resolution so small, it shouldn't be hard at all. it would be like a steam deck lite.
>>720803423show me a steam deck that isn't an overencumbering eyesore
Should I get a Vita? I've already got a PSTV lying around somewhere but I only use it for Muramasa.
>>720804296I wouldn’t recommend it if you already have a better OLED handheld. There’s nothing that special about it.
>>720804296>PSTVthis is literally just a vita without the portable part, you can mod it with the same exact homebrew, and play all the same games just on a tv instead
>>720792010Just beat FF7 Before Crisis on mine for shits and giggles, was kino
>>720792010Bump
>>720796643>murayeah this is the main problem with early OLEDs, especially on the Vita.
>>720795106I feel like it's got mostly something to do with the color calibration/clamp too. With modern OLEDs, it's just gonna display too saturated of an image because most of the time it's not clamped to sRGB or whatever the medium is supposed to be using.
>>720804296I wouldn't if you've already got the PSTV.I only got two vitas because I got the OLED for $80 and the Slim one for $40
piece of shita, get a psp
