Dual analog control schemes and diamond face buttons layouts have been a disaster for game design.
They never work and they usually just mean that 1/6th of your available inputs are occupied by some irrelevant shit like camera controls, so the shoulder buttons need to pull all the weight of the gameplay while the left analog stick fumbles everything.
At least sometimes the left analog stick pulls its weight when it's used to direct hordes of minions or make your character dodge, but when it's used to aim or look around it is super weak.
Diamond face buttons just reinforce this by making none of the face buttons very important when these are buttons that the game should be using to teach the player from first principles and figuring out which actions are fun.

That's what is making the game strict, yet less fun, you're stuck playing cameraman like in souls or overcomplicating shit like in Metroid Dread which only would have needed standard 8 directional aiming like the old games.

Cuphead is one of the least fun games I've ever played. You literally just hold the fire button down the entire time while jumping over bullets. Sometimes a pink bullet shows up and you jump a second time. I don't know if I could design a less engaging "hard" game if I tried.

It's slow and boring. Both attacking and movement are restricted by stamina. Lack of movement and defensive options, parry in souls is too risky and detached from blocking, primary defensive option is rolling. The combat system seems to be designed to be accessible and the difficulty comes from the enemies, so your attacking options are lacking too. I like bloodborne, which I consider to be a step away from souls; and I love sekiro, which is a proper action game.

because bosses are fast :) "stamina management" is fromdrone's way of saying "if you get better at fighting boss, you only need less tries, but not less time", which is reinforced further by scripting using more aggressive attacks back-to-back if you damage them too much

Because it's no monster hunter. MH did the slow and methodical action combat thing earlier with more options and actual positional depth compared to dark souls. Souls is only good for its atmosphere/vibe but I grew out of this phase quick after I realized I could get the same thing from movies and books without the bad gameplay
