>Game at the very beginning makes you really uncomfortable. What's the logic behind this?
>OP starts a thread with a retarded strawmanWhat's the logic behind this?
Nier Automata is like this all the way through. Glad I pirated it.
>>720985259Detroit: Become Human
>>720985152I spent an hour trying to save the Companion Cube in Portal
>>720985259>gets upset when called outOof.
>>720985893We all did anonExcept speedrunners.Fuck speed runners
>>720985152You wont find any logic because your premise is flawed. The character isn't supposed to be literally you taking this personal makes you a an idiot.Just stick to games that don't try to tell a story so you wont have to go through events that you can't personally handle.
>>720985259That's literally spec ops the line, a game that frequently gets jerked off for it's narrative
>>720986220>The character isn't supposed to be literally you taking this personal makes you a an idiot. They guy who wrote Spec Ops the Line literally wrote a book saying the exact opposite and that players using white phosphorus and Walker being guilted about it was explicitly intended as a message to the player for doing bad things and "just following orders" despite it being a completely linear segment with no alternative besides turning the game off and walking away. So no, sorry, the pretentious games OP is mocking are literally doing exactly what you're claiming they don't
how can you be mentally stuck in 2012
>>720986646If he said this directly then, yeah, he's a retard, but why not call that game out directly instead of using some vague analogy like in the comic
>>720985259Anon I...
>>720985259thats not what a strawman even means you retard
>>720986798>but why not call that game out directly instead of using some vague analogy like in the comicOP's comic is about as direct an attack on Spec Ops as you can get without literally showing a "PRESS X TO LAUNCH WHITE PHOSPHORUS" prompt, the only people who don't immediately get the reference are just probably too young to recognize a game from 2012
>there are still people absolutely seething about spec ops to this dayit will never not be funny
>>720987094>Spec Ops: The Line was a commercial failure, selling less than anticipated by Take-Two.It was a failure on every front.
>>720985152Ugly women in vidya make me really uncomfortable
>>720985259Its not a strawman when dozens of highly acclaimed narrative focused games do exactly this.
>>720985816>get to save a hot loli at the beginning >it makes you uncomfortable
>>720987568Referring more to the forced Kamski dilemma. Anyone who is not retarded could have come up with multiple ways of handling that situation but at the very least you shouldnt be seen as an evil douchebag for shooting a robot. Also the game literally demonstrates several ways that androids can be revived from the dead so there's just no logic behind robodeath throughout the game
>>720987829That's not the beginning or even close to it. The beginning ropes you in with the promise of lolis.
>>720988040>promise of lolisBut you got one right after
>>720985259Refusing to admit that you're a bad person is stage 1 of coping. That;s OP.Denying that you aren't even being told that is stage 2. This is where you are.
How do we fix this?
>>720988294
>>720988329that you are* even being told thati just woke up
>>720985259>>720986220>t. never palyed Spec Ops: The Line
>>720986220>The character isn't supposed to be literally you taking this personal makes you a an idiot.Every character I play is literally me and I ever played a game as (You) I wpuld kill myself
>>720987829DBH is utter horseshit but I think at that point the game made it clear that the debate wasn't about whether or not robots are sentient and moreso about whether or not they deserve their sentience recognized
>>720988380Stop buying it
>>720985152>rape is fully optional>murder is fully optionalYep, Leaf's game wins again
>>720986639>>720988748This.
>>720987094>>720988748>>720993767the game was literally made for v, they expect you to stop playing it or never play it to begin with.
>>720985152>be an actor since 1975>only in 4 videogames>they're all shitHow could this be!
>>720992028I haven't bought a single one yet they still keep being made!
>>720986798people have been something out over spec ops for 15 years now. so e people get very upset at fiction for some reason. you know, retarded subhuman faggots.
>>720985259It's literally Undertale.
>>720996047me personally, I'm upset i caved and gave it a try
>>720996125ok but that's your fault not the game. And you are free to not like the story but that's also not the fault of the game it's just your personal opinion. I don't know why spec ops in particular seems to bring out so much tard rage in people compared to other games that do 4th walls breaking shit
>>720996263the game is shit so the story is irrelevantFuck off retard
>>720985152>leaves after killing the doghow about leaving before you kill the fucking dog psycho?
>>720985550you literally miss out on the true end when you pirate it. i did too but because i'm an autistic fuck and simply quit after one of the tragic endings because i thought it was a fitting end. that might explain a lot of things in my life
>>720988380
>>720985550Replicant is way worse for that
>>720986639i've never heard anyone call the story good, it's always bitching about the scenario in OP
Because experiencing a range of emotions including discomfort, fear, sorrow etc is a good thing and an important part of storytelling. If the only emotion you want to feel is "wooo take that" then go watch Marvel
>>720995562>gets killed in a Tales from the Crypt episode with Jay Sherman, Gomez Addams, Mr. Bentley from The Jeffersons, and Nancy from Roseanne
>>720986773It was a better time.A more innocent time.
>>720998508Even early Marvel movies had sad scenes. They had gut punches that were earned. Tell me, if you played this game and had to do this:https://youtu.be/h7rffeZQZ5s?si=_C7X8Vzhnidx10yNWould you want to play the game?
>>720998337https://2012.vidyagaemawards.com/winnersSpec ops got third place in "Best writing", "New Implementation of an old franchise" and "Biggest feels"Some people WERE praising the game in 2012, at least.
>>721004094There was always an amount of faggy /v/ contrarians that liked it purely because cod was popular and they saw it as owning the cod kiddies epic style. The cod kiddies themselves never noticed, they didn't play that shit.
>>721004094>award shows
>>720997810The game was promised to be fun! "It's fun and games!" not "Misery and games!"The latter is for nobody.
>>720985152The last panel never happens.
>>720996263I dunno I think other games do the same, undertale brings out a lot of yard rage too but also a lot of people give it a pass and more people have played it so it seems like less
>>721005312Sunk cost fallacy? Seriously?
>>721005537I dunno whatever justification people come up with to keep playing either way it never happens the whole issue with spec ops is that they didn't put the game down after the white phosphorus part like the devs wanted people to
>>720985152The Player (a construct of the game's narrative) is not the same as a player (a human being holding a controller). your mistake is in over-identifying and taking something personally when it wasn't really about you. that's called narcissism, Anon. narcissism is for women.
>>720986883>Three games where they tell you to shove children into oven, last one even does it for you>It was meant to be a selling point
>>720996048Undertale literally never forces you to kill anyone.
>>721006015It's for people that hate children and take joy in killing virtual ones
>>720985152
>>720985152It Takes TwoHad a bunch of annoying divorced parents energy at the beginning, which bothered my GF and I. Who talks to each other like that, etcThen you have to kill an innocent elephant toy by ripping it limb from limb, the characters find it amusing while the toy begs for its lifeWe dropped it immediately, asked for a refund, wrote a bad review on steam, and now if anyone mentions that they like the game we know to avoid them / what their politics are
>>721006080shalom!The jews did not kill Christ by the way nobody forced the Romans to do it.
>>720985152>13 years later /v/ is still mad
>>720985152This is funny because this a direct parallel to the ending where Walker shoots the apparition of Konrad and just goes home. idk how people have hang ups on this game when you can just deny the blame outright, which I would assume the person who made this comic did, but apparently it wasn't enough to do it ingame?? Am I missing something?
>>721006605Like... three of them?
>>721006729That is the funniest part of the entire game.>rip a cute stuffed elephant princess apart>proceed to literally bathe in their daughter's tears because they believe that's the solution to be returned to normalIt's hilarious and really well done to showcase how fucking awful the parents are. Whether or not you thought it was funny, the whole point is that they fucking suck as people.
>>721007212At least it was done mid-game.
>>721006939>He thinks OP is thinking only about one certain game
>>720995839You can continue not buying them!No one expects you to buy all the games
>
>>721007212>Let's make a game where the main characters are awful but not in a cool way like OG God of WarI don't get why they made that>I stopped gardening because of you!>Not because you did anything but because you didn't shower me with praise every dayHoly fucking shit
>>720985152jesus christ how long have you people been seething over spec ops the line
>>721011032It's not just spec ops
>>720987568> referring to children as "hot lolis"Why are all straight men pedophiles?
>>720986639There is nothing wrong with Spec Ops narrative since it's not you, it's Walker doing all the heinous shit in the same way you don't really have much of a choice in the narrative of your typical military shooter because the characters aren't you. You're meant to feel uncomfortable the further you progress through the game.
>>721004481Oh Ziggy can’t you see my TEEEEARS?
>>720985152This comic is very reductive but it's not wrong. You very rarely have any agency in the action, as you literally have to do what the game wants or stop playing. The only example that does this kind of well is spec ops the line. It lacks agency as well but that works in the broader scope of what it's trying to say.You were enticed in with promises of another badass wargame where you'd be awesome soldier man, killing the bad guys and saving your nation. Just like how soldiers for the GWoT were told they'd be badass heroes keeping enemies away from America. In both cases you're suckered in with promises of action and glory just to end up murdering children in a sand hell. Every other attempt falls on its face because they don't have the same CLEAR MESSAGE going for them. What someone smart would do is present the situation but give player agency where Solution A is easier(or better rewarding) and will technically solve the issue while Solution B is more difficult but actually morally right.Devs CONSISTENTLY pussy out of this by making there be no real difference in the choice beyond a dialogue box, or by making the harder "good guy" option objectively more rewarding by giving you some unique shit or by unlocking a true ending or whatever. To do this trope well the player needs to actively feel like they've lost out on something or had to struggle to achieve that more morally just solution.
