Are there any new game controllers recently released/started shipping? I've been away for a while, are there anything "innovative" with different d-pad or otherwise crazy symmetrical design recent? Did anyone try the Gulikit TT Max/Pro yet, or is that still not out yet?

New controllers are coming out with all sorts of improvements but nothing really new. It's all about how better the sticks and buttons are.
I bought this one recently. It has capacitive sticks, which are betterer than TMR sticks, which are better than hall effect sticks which are better than normal sticks, you know.
It has mechanical everywhere but unlike other platforms, these are soft ones, they're not too loud, and they're easier to mash quickly. And it has HD rumble that works pretty good. And it has trigger stops (though I'll be honest, given I'm used to triggers, I press hard on these fuckers and it's less comfortable than I thought to actually have low travel). The d-pad is a bit on the small side but a marvel compared to plenty of em. Also no latency. Also battery isn't half bad.

At this point it's mostly about getting the little things right
for example my 8bitdo controller has a few small things which add a lot of value when taken as a whole
>back buttons and extra bumpers mean you have a ton of convenient remappable inputs
>analog/digital trigger toggles
>charging dock includes a compartment with a usb-c port for the wireless adapter

didn't it come with this kind of d-pad, or is this different one? How's the controller overall, it's comfortable/good?

I've been on the look out for Gulikit TT Max because it looks completely different from other controllers (xbox shaped controller with ps-symmetrical ergo/stick placement) which could be interesting, but I have no idea when it's coming out

I got the 8bitdo adapter specifically so I could keep using my wii u pro controller. But it really opens functionality for other shit.

>works with every wireless controller from playstation, xbox or nintendo
>works on switch, pc and any piece of hardware that uses usb controllers.
> if you really want to go ham you can connect it to a remote play thing for xbox or playstation and play those games with any controller.

I know this sounds like a gay ad. But the point is you have a obsolete wireless controller sitting around this basically makes it a functional controller again. also the wii u pro controller is the peak of video gaming control input and we will never surpass it.
>>
>>721106139
I guess there's appeal with old first part stuff, but to me, I'm all for these third party chink controllers, it feels "fresh" somehow, maybe because it's ever so slightly different than the "dinosaur" controllers
>>
>>721106038
Comes with both, you can switch between them
It's mostly comfortable, to me it doesn't feel much different from my xbox one controller, although I find the triggers can be a mixed bag when used as "digital". I'm not used to do that with analog triggers so I stab my finger with them.
The round d-pad is pretty good too, but I still prefer the cross.
Also consider that I find this comfortable even though I actually prefer the playstation stick layout. I didn't consider getting any of these asymmetrical controllers until I tried a different gamepad by moba (M6 HD), I bought this based on the fact that it feels similar.
The face buttons are fucking top notch btw.
Oh and you can bind the back buttons to any keyboard key you want if you use the dongle.
>>
>>721106038
The dpad is replaceable, most Mobapad controllers have this.

Also, I've got to shill for these joycons because they're the only reason I can bear to play Switch portably.

The ones on the huben 2 are far better though. The d-pad on the M6 HD is mostly flat and I found it actually pretty tiring to use. The round one is nearly unusable for me. They should re-release the M6 HD with whatever the huben 2 uses. But the rest is on fucking point.
>>
>>721106481
Oh yeah I get what you mean. The usb is good for the old stuff. But most of the modern chink stuff is getting pretty good. I'm comparing my 8bitdo to my wii u pro right now and the only difference i can kinda feel is.

>triggers on 8bitdo have the analog triggers
>8bitdo the face buttons are more tactile and actuation are more clicky. whereas on the pro controller i believe they're trying to emulate the older n64 softer actuations, i think when they had rubber membranes.

I would make a recommendation for 8BitDo Pro 3
>Symmetrical Joysticks
>Steam Input support meaning you can customize the extra buttons on your controller(2 on the back, 2 on the shoulder)
>Can EASILY switch out face buttons to go with Xbox Face Buttons for PC play
>Free Charging Dock and 2.5GHZ Wireless USB stick.
>D-Pad is clicky in a good way
>Can also switch out Joysticks for Twin Arcadesticks it comes with.

Are these to protect the rubber on sticks, when someone is too lazy about cutting their nails, or they're sharp from poorly cut nails? I would imagine they could protect grip rubber too but you hold those with all fingers and these seem to be only for thumb and index, leaving 3 fingers free to scratch some rubber

How are Apex different from Vader? Vader Pro model seems to have adjustable tension rings for sticks, so you can have right stick slightly stiffer, and left stick looser
>>
>>721113291
Apex doesn't have C/Z buttons, and usually exists to beta test gimmicks with a markup. Apex 4 had the stick tension thing, which was adopted by Vader 4 as well. Don't remember what's new on Apex 5 aside from paddles instead of buttons, and dropping dinput.

No, your wired 360 controller doesn't count.
>>
>>721114548
hmm.. I don't know if it's a problem or not, but the concern I have specs wise is that it seems to be using hall effect, while other new controllers are now using either TMR or starting to adopt Capacitive sticks. Like I think the recent 8bitdo Pro3 upgrade from Pro2 was HE->TMR , and mobapad + some others are adopting capacitive sticks. I think you could argue it shouldn't be priced so high if it's not using TMR at least, since there's a lot of competition. I feel it should cost 66 at most or something, closer to that price point than 100 price
>>
>>721115585
The biggest points of failure in gamepads can be replaced quickly and cheaply. There's no excuse for not finding a comfortable grip on a controller and replacing parts as you need to, or sucking it up and replacing the entire controller because you're lazy. If you can change the oil in your car, you can replace potentiometers.

cars are built to be repairable unless the engineers fucking hate you and their own technicians. Brittle plastic controllers and their finnicky ribon cables/soldering are made to be disposable and you have to be much more careful than changing out your oil. Sure, most people could probably manage it if they order some specialized spudgers and tools and wait for 2 months for their alibaba replacement part which may or may not work to be shipped from china.

It's all shit, dude. I just want a controller that can put up with like 5 years of abuse, not 2. I have dualshock 2's which put up with all kinds of shit and still work great and Switch pro controllers with drift after like 1.5 years. The most luck I've had is my wii U pro controller and that's starting to get a wonky deadzone after 10 years of use.

>>721116005
see above. I was WORSE about it as a kid. Eating frozen pizza, chips, etc while playing, slamming the analog sticks, jamming buttons. I want my shit to last now because it's my money. I stopped bringing my controllers over in the dorm back in college because one of the regulars kept eating dominos while using my gamecube controllers.
>>
>>721116257
nta but I think you may have to come in terms that modern controllers aren't built to last 10 years (they might, not tested yet). I have feeling the chinks should last as long if not longer than the modern first party controllers. Remember they're all mostly built in china (even the first party), difference being in materials, and that the third party chinks have non-drift sticks. Third party controllers sticks wont drift, and that seems to be the biggest problem with modern controllers that people are class action lawsuing some of these big gaming companies over

>old gamecube controllers that survived melee growing up and in college
>2 ps2 controllers from an OG ps2fat that survived me being a stupid kid
>several NES controllers from the 80's
not necessarily controllers but
>original gameboy
>GBC
>GBA, GBA SP
>psp
>DS, ds lite

I would have some ps1 controllers but those melted in a literal fire. I don't know when the tooling got fucked but things seem to genuinely be made worse now. It's like we're using a different type of plastic and not just for the housing, but the membranes, potentiometers and switches. I have NO evidence to back this up unfortunately.
>>
>>721117115
>old gamecube controllers that survived melee growing up and in college
This one is my personal internet psyop. I read about everyone having these indestructible GameCube controllers but every single one I had as a kid got a flaccid joystick after a year and some the buttons just worn out. Couldn't go smash attacks anymore. From my personal track record, GameCube is the ONLY bad controller.
>>
>>721117115
I can't say I haven't had as much luck as you. 2 of my n64 controllers drift, and it's probably same with my og xbox controller sticks. There's possibility these new third party controllers will outlast the n64 or xbox sticks , I don't see buttons/triggers breaking either, and sticks should be completely drift free

I don't know exactly what the build quality was for n64 controllers but I remember some of my friends having worn down analogs on theirs, so that tracks. Like there was some type of dust from the plastic breaking down as they got spun around. Probably had to do with how much force you could put on it compared to how awkwardly you would need to hold a dual stick to do the same thing. I also didn't own any xbox controllers so I can't speak to that.

As for my own experiences, the Ps2 controllers were likely very early manufacturing runs. Same with the GC controllers. I had a 3rd party wireless logitech and a madcatz. The madcatz broke after like 3 months and the logitech works fine but the receivers fried themselves so I can't speak to how that one could've gone.

Is there really nobody trying to make actually durable controllers? I know xbox (and maybe sony) both sold some super-premium versions of their controllers recently but they were also plagued with the same issues regarding stick drift, etc.
>>

Can any stick caps be applied to any controller/stick, are they universal? Stick type doesn't matter as much as the capabilities of the controller to read it accurately and the sensors being designed for longevity and accuracy. TMR's generally better for modding potentiometer controllers since they use similar voltage for compatibility, but I don't think you'll see a meaningful difference with hall effect if the controller's properly designed for it and the specific hall sensors don't have a design flaw of some sort.
Like I said, Apex is for beta testing gimmicks with a markup. If you want the good stuff at $66, wait for Vader 5.
