In the middle 90s a small australian dev put out a surreal game called DogDay, where you play as a dog in a run down city that's run by a dictator and his stasi.
I like to believe it's a statement about the Australian nanny state.

Borderlands The PreSequel takes place on the moon of the fictional setting. They wanted it to be decently alien compared to the mother planet so they made the moon Space Australia. It had some references that went over my head and for some reason a little British kid who wasn't good at being that but overall I enjoyed it. Top factor was a unique gun you could get called Boganella (I gather that's aus for "trashy hick dame"?) that chats shit at the enemy while you run around using her.

Brisbane City Hall was one of the most expensive buildings and the second largest construction of the Inter-war period, after the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Brisbane is soulful
>>
>>721241446
I'm obliged to hate on Melbourne because I live in Sydney, but it really feels like the ideal modern city. It's large and skyscrapers are everywhere, but all reachable by walking/trams, lots of cultural spots throughout the city, plenty of parks, a beautiful river running right through the middle, even the sports stadiums are easily reachable. For someone who only occasionally passes through while visiting family I can't think of anything I can complain about, other than lack of more old buildings, but even then it has Sydney beat.
>>

>>721241894

Post kino heritage buildings
>>
>>721241446
Built later and less organically than most places, combined with shitloads of money from the gold rush. Combined it meant a lot more central areas could be put towards parks and large public works projects than almost anywhere else.
I feel the MCG personifies this. Nowhere else is a stadium that large so truly central to a city.
>>
When are they gonna catch that fella?

>>
>>721241894
>other than lack of more old buildings, but even then it has Sydney beat.
Melbourne has big standouts but there's less old buildings on average, I feel. Talking about good old buildings anyway, not the endless heritage listed terrace shitboxes that both cities have.

In general inner melbourne really is ideal, but the big problem is that so much of the city is just ENDLESS suburban sprawl.

>>
>>721242452
Yeah the sprawling suburbs are incredibly soulless. Not to mention cheap and poorly designed. They will become meth wastelands if the economy tanks.
>>
>>721238531
every time I hear of people getting hit by the them it makes me smile, there are so many absolutely insane drivers who drive like crazy.
I live in the burbs not in a major city now and somehow the people here drive worse than in cities, its fucking crazy how these people act and there isn't as many cameras so you see some crazy shit.
there is this one spot that the cops straight up camp, its a 60 zone right before an 80 zone and they are sitting behind this sign, at least once a fortnight I see them fly out and grab some cunt and slap him for going more than 20 over. idk how they never learn when I see it happen so much
>>
>>721243313
what are the worst suburbs in sydney and melbourne?
>>
>>721243313
I currently live in Townsville and had my car rekt by a meth head and would've probably been seriously injured if not for the fact his shitbox hit a ute first and sent that down a bridge.
He was on the run for 2 years and has finally been caught. Fucking wanker.
>>
>>721241894
melb is very nice to visit but its fucking miserable to drive around. syd is a million times better to live in, I guess if you work right in the middle of the city and live there so you rarely drive.
but I actually have hobbies that require me to go places and while public transport is more than adequate for my (short) commute, still need to drive for a lot of stuff, especially to leave the city.

the grid structure sounds like a great idea, and its great for walking around and for finding places, but needing to stop at a light every 5 seconds for your entire trip through is miserable.
>>
>>721241446
now actually go walk down there

because the melbourne city council has the most money and has enough power to tell the state government where they want people to live (not the CBD) and where to work (the CBD), so we end up building housing on prime farmland and massive corporate towers on swampland :)
btw they're trying to outlaw working from home despite it objectively raising productivity, reducing pollution, and improving family cohesion

Best game set in Australia, is the best Forza game, 3. it did the best capturing the look of Australia at least. One of the issues of setting shit in Aus though, is really.. it doesn't have any guns, when I lived there my friends got busted for even having Gel Blasters and were arrested at a paintball field for a Gel Ball blaster match and were put into court for automatic firearms offenses.
Australia is a peak Nanny State with little to no real crime, so it's hard to imagine anything "action-y" happening there.
Also Australian video game developers are all turbo wokies. I know, had friends who worked at 2K and others who moved and worked at some Melbourne studios.
You also have to take into account the attacks on NBN by the Libtards and the Libtards also defunding all Video Game development grants with brandis outright banning any funding of Video Games, led to the entire industry bailing to New Zealand and Texas.

Kind of hard, because the industry was assfucked so hard by the Liberals that literally Australia lost almost all it's fucking studios, then the new grants are so fucking insane that the Government basically gets crypto control over your IP if you accept it.
https://youtu.be/GG5m8NJoHoM?si=9yjoJxEuX-YDlXkE&t=1532
Also in general the entire fucking legal document you need to sign to get funding for a video game, is fucking incoherent and makes no fucking sense.
Australia used to have a pretty good video game industry (2K/Irrational Games, Team Bondi, Microforte, Krome) etc but they basically all got chased overseas by Tony Faggot and Brandis on the command of Murdoch.

Those grants didn't exist for the vast amount of time, when studios were at their best here.
Grants don't solve the problem and are a bandaid fix for a failing industry.
The real answer is that it makes ZERO sense to station a studio in this country. Everything here is expensive, we are far away from everything, the talent here is medicore, and it's infinitely easier and cheaper to outsource studios in bumfuck India and elsewhere.
Not to mention that half your studio examples got shutdown or faded out of relevance during a Labor term. Team Bondi, for example, died because Brendan McNamara does not know how to run a successful studio.
