I think AI has great potential when it comes to physics in video games. Simulating realistic physics through honest calculations is too powerhungry, AI could be a very effective shortcut.

But also imagine communicating with NPC's through your mic. AI could be very innovative, and it's a shame that its use is restricted to upscaling and generating fake frames which only works well when you already have good framerate.

desu I always thought Half-Life was overrated. It was okay back then, but I never felt the need to replay it, and whenever I forced myself to, I realized it aged like milk, especially all these overly scripted events. It did start a huge legacy of mods that surpassed it, but Half-Life was never that good.

It remains iconic, but I have a lot more fun replaying other games like Unreal, Sin, Rainbow Six, or even fucking Halo.

No they don't. They could have made and released Episode Three at a time when it was just expected to be another short episodic game, and wouldn't have needed any further innovation but rather would have needed simply to wrap up the dangling plot threads, perhaps with some made-up-on-the-spot sci-fi magic bullshit if writing is hard. It would have been easy enough. I point this out to emphasize the fact that Valve chose not to do it. Cancelling the series at the end of Episode Two's what-the-fuck cliffhanger was a statement about how they don't give a shit about the story and how not everything has to be a trilogy. But gamers can't take a hint, and instead took their unwillingness to develop a small game as some kind of confirmation that they were developing a big game instead, and still believe it after nearly two decades. Tiny smooth-brained gamers. So sad.

I think having a big robot companion like Dog will be the big leap for that due to the design difference, considering how big and powerful Dog is compared to your typical human/vortigaunt companion you got throughout the series. It'll be essentially like something out of The Last Guardian mixed in with the Half-Life framework. Also, an overhaul to the squad system would've been nice. Half-Life 2 squad system is ass I have to say.
