Have a friend who's literally never enjoyed a story across games, books, TV, or movies his entire life until he played E33. Became his favorite game of all time and now he's wondering if there are other good stories out there. Any recommendations? Mostly looking for video games though I'd accept other mediums, but dude didn't enjoy Witcher 3, Disco Elysium, or FNV so idk what to recommend.
>>721282727Planescape Torment
>>721282727E33 is pretty much the only good story that exists.
I'd recommend growing up.
>>721282727The guy in your fake and gay story has never read a book in his life
>>721282727Lord of the Rings.
>>721282727The shilling is just blatant and insane
>>721283181>all books have good storiesGrow up.
falseflag thread by a Midsonger
>>721282727>haven't played>never will because CCP shills market it endlessly here
>>721282727he doesnt like gameshe just happened to like THIS gameif he stays in this hobby he will forever try to replicate this one game like a heroinaddict and withing 4 months he will be posting hereangrilyjust tell him there are no more games
>>721283181To be fair he's never actually read a book outside of school lol>>721282818Considering he finds DE boring I doubt he'd really like this either>>721283508He likes games (though he is extraordinarily picky likely due to autism), he's just always only cared about gameplay focused stuff
>>721283646Stfu you are a fag and you probably fuck your friend in his ass. This isnt twitch, we don't want to pretend to care about your blog posts
There aren't. Games didn't have a writing watershed moment yet. We had a few close calls but in the end game devs just suck and don't know how to make something truly fascinating. There are several reasons for it, but the main ones are run the nature of the people who make them and the role of games as software. They have to function in a certain way on a certain level for most people to conventionally consider them video games. This heavily limits the storytelling potential of these games because autists usually only appreciate games that require a certain level of stimulus interaction.Contemporary thinking, visual cinematography, acting, poetic language, story structuring. Most of these stand in opposition to typical game design, not with it. Cut scenes are basically minimovies in between mostly disjointed gameplay segments where character action is largely driven by flashy mechanically impossible violence. It's very hard to built the kind of tension and storytelling you'd deep for a thought provoking experience through this mechanic. That's not to say you can't tell an amazing story. Games actually have the greatest medium potential, but most devs seem to feel they have to follow industry trends and conventions to make a successful game, even indies. To tell better stories with games is to use the gameplay to tell it. Environmental storytelling is one method. It got more popular with Souls games but has even used for a while. Hidden lore bits, descriptions, and landmarks that tell something happened.Another is to make the mechanics represent the experience. Only good example I've ever seen of it is NieR.There's probably more but I'm too tired to think of it.Most games are just not made by people who truly understand how to tell a story for a game. It's made by either autistic IT types, loony troonies or secondary writers who failed to make it as film /book auteurs.
>>721286334Yeah I personally think Outer Wilds is honestly my favorite story in gaming even if the writing isn’t notable for the environmental storytelling and the way the mechanics enhance the world.
>>721282727It's very rare to find a story in video games that isn't just good based on its content, but also extremely well told, like the one in E33. They did a beautiful job with introducing you to the world of the game without making it feel artificial, no excessive lore dumping, no over-explaining etc.
>>721283508>he doesnt like gamesYou can't read. Very offensive. And stupid.
>>721282727Reddit33 was dogshit
>>721283045>E33 is pretty much the only good story that exists. It's legitimately worse than the average weebshit jrpg plot
>>721288357I've ever hated a fanbase this much before. You are a moron. Please kill yourself.
>>721282727FFX is pretty great
>>721289294Just because Reddit loves a game doesn’t mean you have to suddenly decide it sucks anon
>>721282727He would love indieslop depression allegory walking sims. They all have poorly written pseudointellectual maudlin writing that appeals to idiots just like E33
>>721282727So, he's interested in good story with easy to grasp gameplay.Original Longest Journey. Psychonauts 1/2. BG3.
>>721282727I only started E33 literally 2 hours ago but I think everyone should play Nier Automata.
>>721290130He found BG3 very boring from a narrative perspective. Psychonauts could be a good suggestion though.>>721289745What makes E33 poorly written, pseudo-intellectual, or maudlin? Pretty empty criticisms.>>721290150I personally like NieR Automata but lots of people despise anime tropes, including the person I'm posting about.
