What's the difference between an Xcom like and a normal TRPG?
You spend a lot more time shooting at each other & missing.
>>721412249The 'Civilisation' (what the producers told Gollop to make it like) stuff and extremely loose structure. I think the engine is actually better at being a TRPG platform than most other games trying directly to be that. Just the base game is very simple and abstract. X-Piratez, X-Com Files, and ROSIGMA are insanely compelling RPG/strategy hybrid things which go really in depth trying to realise and represent their worlds. ROSIGMA feels more like you're inside 40k than Rogue Trader.I don't think a TRPG has ever grabbed me like X-Com. I love the distance, the scale, the management and room for detail. I think more TRPGs should try evolving into something more like X-Com. First Japanese person to make anime Fire Emblem-Com makes a trillion dollars.
>>721412249Geoscape.
>>721412682the base management crap sucks ass just like it does in every other game with similar mechanics
>>721413125Nah the game would be more boring if you were just going from mission to mission.
>>721413125You barely have to manage a "base", it's more just context for in depth ground mission preparation. I like knowing that ammunition for my weapons, soldiers in transit, that all of that stuff is physically being tracked flying around the world to get where it needs to be. It's like watching guys move boxes in Tropico. I like the world feeling alive. Each detail is actually there.
nobody makes these anymorethe Battle Brother devs are making a sort of xcom like but there are no real huge management sim xcom likes and if there were i wish they would have more options for fitting out huge amounts of dudes depending on stats all at once so you can macro macro macro and tone down on all the annoying micromanagement and not just "copy + paste current equip/build "
>>721413812Xenonauts and Xenonauts 2Very good soundtrack as well
>>721414014nah
>>721413812>>721414014X-Com is like AoE2 or Doom. It's just a complete, finished form you can't really improve on or succeed. It makes more sense to make different stuff using X-Com as a base rather than challenging it. OpenXcom mods are better X-Com successor experiences than any game trying to one up or seriously change the original.
>>721413812There's not really a reason to make a game in the same style when UFO Defence has full conversion mods. Anything a new game could do, a modder or the base game would already do better.
>>721412249>the grind is limited>permadeath is not an issue>fully destructible environment>strategic layer between missions

>>721414014Xenonauts godawful artstyle makes me mad just looking at it
>>721412249There's a strategy layer that is arguably the more important half of the game since normal gameovers happen there. It's like a mini-version of Grand Strategy games.
>>721413812its not x com, its more of tabletop lite like w40k
>>721414014>rake cold war setting>do nothing with it
>>721412249TRPG is boring, Xcom isn't.
remember when Jonathan Blow got really upset about XCOM's lying statshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0KEDYFWbVc
>>721412249Maybe the fact that they copy Xcom?
