I refuse to play this but I've tried several times to play the original (the Goty version on Steam) and apart from the controls being dreadful (I've tried rebinding and fixing things in the .ini but it still doesn't feel right) the first mission is so fucking weird I still haven't been able to grasp what the game wants for me, it feels like playing through molasses. Any tips? I really REALLY want to like this game.
>>
>>721621059
Your skills suck at the start so your accuracy is shit and your damage isn't very good either. You need to play it like a stealth game where you come up behind guys on their own and then kill them. Or prod them, whatever.
You can't play it as an actual shooter until your skills are higher level and you find the upgrades that let you run faster and take less damage and so on.
Bear in mind the shooting still isn't very fun even with everything at max. It's just not a good combat game. It's kinda like Fallout if you've played that. Fallout is fun to play but not because of the combat.

>but it still doesn't feel right) the first mission is so fucking weird I still haven't been able to grasp what the game wants for me
The game wants you to get into the top or the statue and arrest the terrorist leader. How you proceed is up to you. That's the point.

It's been a while since I did it but I remember there were some options that couldn't be affected outside of the .ini, I think it had to do with raw mouse input, since the game only used acceleration, or maybe that was for Stalker? Fuck I'm having trouble remembering
>>721621768
Did you kill or prod a lot or did you simply just sneak by? I feel retarded asking these questions but I've tried like over a dozen saves and I still can't do it
>>
>>721621923
I always ghost this level with a tranqbow and prod. I just sneak my way into the back of the statue, then disable the cameras inside with multitools and proceed to free Hermann. He'll then cause havok inside the statue, while you just casually proceed to the top of it.
You can use a few gas grenades as a panic button to disable groups of enemies.
>>
>>721621059
Deus Ex is what we used to call a 'video game', where you make a character of specific attributes and abilities and take on challenges in ways that your character can surpass. With a bit of player skill involved in the process.
If you can't get past the first mission, the issue is between the screen and your chair.
>>
>>721621923
>Did you kill or prod a lot or did you simply just sneak by? I feel retarded asking these questions but I've tried like over a dozen saves and I still can't do it
nigga where the fuck are you failing? the game is piss-easy
you should have enough ammo for your prod to clear the entire area
the stun baton is also non-deadly
you don't have to kill/stun anyone and can just sneak by everyone if you prefer to do that
how the fuck are you failing at this over a dozen times? have you ever played a video game before? what is even happening to you so that you constantly need to restart? also, how low is your IQ? did you drop out of elementary school or something?
>>

>>
>>721622964
>I know swimming is shit

>>721622649
Well, to be fair, the game does suggest the most convoluted way to get into the statue, with you looking for an informer and essentially egging you to waltz through the front door.
Next mission will be very much the same, with your partner suggesting you do a full-frontal assault into the enemy base, because she's a sociopath.
There is always a much more simple path available, if you are just willing to explore and talk to people.

>skills
you don't really need any of the skills. the only skill that unlocks a new feature is the hacking skills, which allows you to hack things, but that's it. all other skills are just number go up, like lockpicking requiring you to use less lockpicks.
you can pretty much put points into every skill you like, because the initial costs are relatively low and only get high if you want to max them out. you can easily put 1-2 points into swimming without ever feeling that you have too little points to spend.
>the only skills that are worth maxing out are pretty much hacking and one of the combat skills, like pistols or rifles so you can aim and kill easier
>maxed out rifles turns your sniper rifle into an anti-turret/camera/alarmbutton gun. IIRC, maxing out pistols does the same
>the mini crossbow with sleep darts is the easiest weapon to clear areas, most targets go to sleep after 1 dart
augs really don't matter. you just pick the one that sounds cool or useful to you. for example, I always pick the ocular drone aug, because it's fucking cool to scout out areas with it and use it to disable all sorts of electronics with the built-in EMP.

I usually go with hacking, lockpicking and multitools for a start, then branch out into rifles and pistols. I never level up enviromental protection and swimming, because what's the point when you have augs that take care of that.
As for augs - health regen, ballistic protection and high jump is a must. I also like the drone and see through walls. The rest is up to you.

The ideal way for a remaster like this to look is to basically look the same from far away, but not blurry once you're up close. The Von Braun sign on the left for instance, it looks more or less the same from afar in both images, it just stays crisp when you're up close, like the right one.

The fanmade RE4 remaster was the same, from afar it basically looked the same, only once you got up close were the high res textures more noticeable.
>>
>>721629057
This is just one render lol. This is like that Cyberpunk demo from 2016 for something that was never actually fully put together.

>>
>>721629829

>>
>>721629829
The reason MGS3 and Silent Hill 2 are so enduring and popular is because they work perfectly fine just the way they are. They were literally only remade for brand recognition and so that zoomies that pretended to love them can give them $80 to finally play them. Totally unnecessary. This is a cancer mindset.

I already own it on steam, picked it up super cheap at some point, but I prefer to play on console anyway, I wouldn't mind the game getting professionally remastered rather than some amateur modders shit and I prefer to play games with controller, except stuff like strat and RTS. I actually played dude sex on PS2.
I won't be in a rush to buy this though, I will grab it cheap at some point when i feel like playing dude sex again. Its already 1/2 price of a usual vidya.
Also buying this lets them know dude sex is still wanted and maybe we will get a completed jensons story.
I wouldn't actually mind a HR and MD revamp that adds both stories and the DLC together as one cohesive game, as well as finished the trilogy.
Not that they would ever do that but I could imagine them doing a HR remaster.

I don't particularly care for the retarded normalfag hate bandwagon going on right now. It's too little pushback, way too late. These motherfuckers saw countless games -- literally hundreds of them at this point -- get raped by companies and suddenly they draw the line at Deus Ex? I even noticed retards comparing this to the GTA Definitive Edition debacle, which is ironic because that heap of fucking garbage somehow sold 14M copies. So this will too, it's just basic economics.

The funniest fucking part is that no one has actually played Deus Ex, at least no one who is currently trying to pretend Aspyr are the "LJN of modern gaming" now (real comment I saw, btw). This performative outrage is purely because they got the signal that this remaster is bad bad not good, even though they have no real basis to say it looks bad and are simply operating off gut reaction (Read: Their favorite streamer said it's ugly, as if the OG game isn't also fucking hideous).

Ultimately I just think it's kind of weird, you know? We're finally at the stage where old games can look on par with pre-rendered CGs but according to normalfags and elitists and ragebaiters if you have anything but absolute feverish hatred for this you're *checks notes* a brownoid slopjeet turdworlder or something. And don't act like this isn't the exact fucking script everyone over on /v/ follows now

They should be the same identical Game of the Year Edition release. I think this is one of the rare non-DRM games on Steam as you can run the EXE's separate. You could run the Steam version in Steam Play mode too. Which might give it better compatibility. I would go with the Steam version due to the non-DRM, I am not a fan of GOG's .exe installer. GOG also likes to package their versions with fixes and cracks.

The GOTY release has a few problems when you try and run it on a newer Windows OS. I think it can be dealt with by using Windows compatibility modes. The original game works well on Proton using the right build. The GOG and Steam versions are problematic and require some user made patches. I have never played the PS2 version. I'm not opposed to the idea of a Deus Ex remaster/ update.

the only time remasters are acceptable is when it's a game that doesn't work on modern hardware anymore, and even in that scenario a re-release with minimal changes is still better
i.e the versions of BG1 and 2 that are on steam are that

Deus Ex is still easy as shit to get running considering how old it is. You just have to do a few tweaks to make it not buggy on windows 10/11
