Retard alert

The arcade monitors are CRTs and any regular SD CRT can output 240p arcade video for all early arcade gaming. Or just get a multisync monitor and do both 240p and 480p
>>
>>721762819
>The arcade monitors are CRTs
No, arcade monitors were specifically made for video games with different scan frequencies and a wider array of controls. If you've ever been to an arcade their output is quite different than what I experienced at home emulating on a PC at the time.

Sony, JVC, and Toshiba are the best brands, but you can make do with any name-brand set as long as it's in good condition. Prioritize TVs with both S-Video and Component (YPbPR) inputs.

>>
>>721764069

>>
>>721764069
CRTs like the one pictured in the OP and CRT SD TVs in general are not a good fit for modern equipment. Even CRT HDTVs aren't particularly good.

You'd need to get a (preferably relatively high end) PC CRT monitor to maybe, MAYBE get something out of it and yes HDMI and DP to VGA adapters exist but to for actually good ones you need to do some research.

This. There's thousands of old men as out-of-touch as OP. The peak of their life was crushing doom 2 lobbies full of 11 year olds in 1994 at the age of 30. They blame their current bad performance on bad equipment. They are old so time moves quickly for them. retard. the only difference is they had RGB connections and were shadow mask.

You use something like a MiSTer you can output 240p arcade games to your CRT at the exact same refresh rate and resolution identical to as they would be in the arcade, because 15khz is a standardized technology. Same with 31khz for 480p, or a multisync that can do both.

I do. Don't have a PVM or anything but still got my old telly fromt he late '90s / early '00s. It can do RGB and 60hz so it's all good. Also got a small one for taking with me to a summer cottage and the like. Happily it can also accept RGB and 60 fps. Weirdly it can only output b&w with non-composite and RF connections, although that might be because I'm missing the remote and adjustments for color etc. I do have an inkling that it was probably sold as black and white television in this market but still retained colour functionality on SCART.
Also got one highish end PC monitor that, that's unfortunately a bit scratched on the screen surface.

A lot of CRTs can be modified with RGB which is the same quality as component. That said buying a composite or RF only set is a waste of money unless you are in love with the aesthetics of the set.

I've used crts most of my life, including pic related which was pretty much the very best crt that ever existed with its max res of 2304 x 1440 and max refresh rate of 160. I say good riddance to blurry furnaces with their shitty geometry and gay as fish bowl curves, or if you get a flat one you got two highly visible horizontal wires across the screen. I'll stick to my plasma tv. for retro games you can just use a simple filter to blurr the pixels and you get a nice glow from the plasma like you do a crt, oh and you can play 1080p games. also if you turn off any image professing they got the same or better response time than the bottom third of a crt for the entire panel. this has been proven using a Time Slueth.

The world barring one factory in Afghanistan got got rid of all the tooling necessary to make new parts for CRTs, and without parts there's very little you can do to fix what's left and aging. It's the same reason the US couldn't put 16" canons on its new ships if it wanted to, we got rid of the factories.

Just got a CRT and everything about it is perfect for me, but the flyback transformer high pitched whine is INSANE. I can tune it out after like half an hour but I'm not used to it. Its reading at like 15khz. I can't tell if this one's whine is particularly bad or I'm just not used to it anymore. Thoughts?

15Khz is the correct pitch, but it shouln't be super loud.

yea that's what I can't tell if my sissy ears have just gone soft. It peaks at around -80dbs sitting a few feet away I guess? My wife can't even hear it.

Exactly

Ya think there would be at least a small company somewhere making CRTs. I mean, I get it, we stopped mass producing them for a reason, but there is still some market for it.
>>
>>721772959
Major reason is shipping costs unironically. Part sourcing + exporting the finished product that weighs a ton.
>>
>>721772948
>>721772921
It's because PVMs and other high-end and rare sets are owned by technical people either fellow players or production people who call it by the proper name.

Even consumer sets with the retro gaming moniker are cheap on FB marketplace.
>>
>>721772959
Too many specialized parts with no other practical application that require precision industrial processes to manufacture. No indie company is ever going to build a CRT in their garage.
>>

>priced out
If that’s the case, why bother? It’ll just break and need increasingly expensive replacement parts, or as you said, I won’t be able to afford a new one. It seems you’re hanging on a sinking ship there

wtf
>>
>>721773078
Nope, even PVMs were quite cheap before they realized a whole new circle of retrogaming cattle would pay serious figures for a good set. PVMs in 2010 were going for pennies.

My 38 year old unc gave me a 20in PVM and the whine was so loud and painful I tossed it out.

Emulation looks better and is silent.

the 'smart' TVs do seem to get slower and slower with age. Good ol' 'I just project an image' TVs remain responsive.

This is why you don't ever update them.

>tfw the CRT I own has some kind of weird dynamic contrast "feature" that can't be turned off
>if there's a flashing light in a dark scene the entire screen will go dim or crush the blacks
Other than that it's perfect, but it makes some games like Tenchu with the flashing radar in the corner annoying as fuck to play

Shaders on my OLED are good enough and a better experience than my actual PVMeme
>>
>>721777506
Based shader-anon. If you get good enough at tweaking shaders you can basically emulate a best-case scenario CRT with all of the strengths and none of the weaknesses inherent to the technology.

>>721760995
Why don't you play in 4k at high framerates yet?
You're already priced out, poorfag.

What's the most you should be willing to pay for a consumer CRT TV?
>>
>>721779373
nothing since you are helping someone dispose of a useless heavy piece of junk with leaded glass and other hazardous materials

Arcade cabs literally used regular TV CRT tubes due to price and availability
The chassis is all that makes it special

I have a nice 20 inch and a cute little 13 inch. 6th gen and earlier consoles just feel better.

Because CRT Shaders are good enough
