Even pre-patch the game tip-toe’d around the emporer, he was spoken about highly by every NPC, and when you defeat his reseructed monster form he reverted back to human self and died (he was already dead irl by time game is set) peacefully with his consort.

Post patch defeating his demonic form reverts him (and his girlfriend???) back to fully alive and apperenely immortal humans, who live happily ever after. Despite everything else in story telling you that Resurection doesn’t work, it either fails or creates monsters. Plus patch also removed half the enemies in chapter 4 because you arnt allowed to ever kill anyone associated with Ming Dynasty. Which ended up trivialising the section of game, since instead of you vs Ming guys, vs demons, it’s now you+immortal NPC’s vs demons. They will often kill them before you even reach that spot.

Also a few other bosses that now don’t die, but just stand up completely straight post battle and give non-lip synced obviously AI dialog saying how you beat them, but then reaffirming how cool and important this historical person is. Then adding convuluted steps to get their weapons/armour which previously just dropped on their corpse.

It was a peasant uprising that overthrew the Mongols but essentially, the main issue was that the initial succession of the dynasty devolved into a civil war and stuff that was planned went off the rails with factionalism and the army weakened on purpose to not repeat the succession issues. Im glad I managed to get my ps5 to stop auto-downloading updates so I still have pre-censorship version. See, Wuchang hasn't actually "officially" released in China, at least on a Chinese platform like Steam China. There's a reason why the devs chose an Italian publisher instead, 404 games, to distribute and market the game.
However, chink netizens saw the game and some hardcore mingboos or trolls even, decided to brigade against the game and they reported it to the Sichuan department of tourism and culture instead, which I guess you can say the CCP did get involved. They presented their case and some officials took this to the devs, and some say local police enforcement got involved, and the devs caved under pressure both from online and irl demands, all the while their foreign consumers were completely unaware that this was happening. Not like they could do anything either since.

you're missing a lot of historical context. the ming dynasty, while not particularly popular toward the end, ended foreign rule of the mongolian yuan dynasty. so the ming dynasty gets romanticisized as a "rule by the chinese, for the chinese" government. the foreign manchu qing dynasty that follows the ming made the han chinese 2nd class citizens in their own country. the shaved forehead and ponytail that you see on chinese in the 1800s was imposed on han chinese adult males was a matter of submission to the foreign manchus.

the manchu dynasty was unpopular as it was viewed as a foreign occupation government like the mongol yuan. the resistance groups of han chinese with the motto "overthrow the qing, restore the ming" at the time were the forerunners of the modern chinese triad mafia gangs. things like why number 13 is seen as lucky (story of a monastary of monks resisting manchu qing forces were betrayed by the 7th monk and slaughtered, but the 14th monk got away and survived) are tied to greivances against the manchus and restoring the ming "make china great again" movement. it's similar to how italian mafia's forerunners were groups of napoli gangs resisted spansih/bourbon rule in the 18th century.

From what I can tell, they produced anti Chinese propaganda. I don't know about the history of China so I can't speak on the validity of the claim that Wuchang is indeed anti Chinese propaganda. But, it is beautiful to see that a nation like China can protect itself from propaganda. The USA could learn something from this. Let's take an analog to this incident for American company Bethesda. Bethesda should be tanking for their threats against Christians and their business should be floundering. But, at most we got was a small wave of negative reviews on all their recent games.
