There would be an ultimatum, either we go through this exact same thing where we decouple our economies or we let China do whatever they want since they can hold the world's supply lines hostage. But it only works if every other country stops relying on China too, which is what these tariffs will be about in the end. There's a lot of obfuscation going on to make it seem like it's totally not about China, but it totally is all about China despite the bluster about Canada and Mexico.
