Voyager is probably my second favorite series after DS9. I love the absolute gonzo plots and characters. I agree that the first season of TNG wasn't great, and while I don't begrudge someone for not liking the Original Series, I love it for the same reason I like the "bad half" of Voyager. My favorites respectively are The Savage Curtain and The Thaw.

I feel like they were there for padding, so you wouldn't feel too bad when they died. The show runners/ producers didn't want to dump their load on season 2 and leave nothing for season 3. Looking at the ratings... I feel like the numbers for season 2 have been better than the season 1 numbers.
