I ate them for breakfast everyday for like a year. The chocolate ones are good. They are good for calorie control. They are a bit fatty but as long as you just ate half a pack and only for breakfast, they are decently healthy.
>>
>>719302619
It is kind of an oddity that they became an iconic staple in Japan, knowing the tastes they usually have.
I had one of the Ramune drinks once and it was like drinking a field of sugar cane.

I buy them in bulk on Amazon (still do).
10 for $32. Thats $3.30 a box. And I only eat half a box a day.
So $1.70 for daily breakfast that is effortless? Its worth it.

Well it would stand to reason they would not make them taste bad. Moral reasons.
I have seen a lot of military guys say the food in their mess halls is quite good, because it is the one thing of luxury that can be equal among everyone.
They found out through war that men will defect and refuse to even fight when you give them nothing to fight for.

as someone living in japan, took me awhile to actually try these. i first tried the liquid version in the can and the fruity milk was absolutely horrifying. tried the blocks awhile later and they are just so fucking flavorless and don't taste remotely good. it's like normal shortbread but 3x more dry and devoid of any flavor outside of a hint of whatever the box says it is.

someone in front of me today at family mart was buying this solely for lunch, he looked depressed. figures.

>>
>>719303913
I want to get some asian MREs but theyre impossible to find in the west
>>
>>719301689
Chocolate is alright, but they aren't something you'd eat because you want to eat a tasty snack. It's just a shortbread that fills you up a lot.
It's pretty convenient when you are hungry but you aren't bothered to sit and eat, and you just want to satiate your hunger.
Some straight up eats them to skip and speed-run a meal, probably not healthy though as they aren't a meal replacement like Onions, but it is pretty edible.

You'd know if you've actually ate Calorie Mate but those bars are closer to a snack than a replacement bar.
It's more tasty but stuffing yourself with that to actually satiate your hunger is just going to take you to the diabetes town.

Your drv of protein varies greatly depending on what you do and if you're currently trying to build/maintain muscle mass. If you are doing resistance training you want 0.7 to 1 gram of protein per pound you weigh. If you are overweight use your target weight for the calculation instead of your current weight.
>>
>>719305878
This. It's more useful than meal replacement because chugging meal replacement slurp is disgusting and depressing, but at the same time it's much more fulfilling than your usual protein bar so you can use it as a quick semi-meal.
I wouldn't eat it everyday though, just whenever it's convenient to skip a meal.
>>
>>719303791
>>719303694
40g is roughly my weekly sugar intake. That's way too much sugar for a single meal.
>>
>>719305847
and less fulfilling so you have to stuff a lot more of that in order to make it worthwhile to satiate your hunger, which means you'll end up taking more sugar and fat
