Japs 40 years ago went rabid over Dragon Quest 3 to the point that most games of its series since then were released on weekends because so many people are skipping work or school for them. Yet when you actually play the game it's an extremely primitive one that doesn't even have real music outside of beeps and boops and you can't help but think how absurd it is that so many people flocked to this game like moths to a lamp.People now are severing connections, avoiding responsibilities, and permanently damaging their bodies to play games that will look to people 40 years from now how Dragon Quest 3 looks to us now. They will have thinking machines powerful enough to create entire universes with their own physics each with trillions and trillions of inhabitants with their own histories into which you can upload your consciousness and be whoever you want doing whatever you want. And they will stare back in puzzlement at how we can be so easily entertained by such rudimentary pastimes like toddlers to keys being jingled.
