ok call me autistic but i always considered knockoffs and bootlegs to be two different thingsa knockoff is something meant to mimic a real product to leech off its popularity, so instead of, say, spongebob squarepants, you'll get his shitball cheapass chinese cousin "robert washcloth" or somethingon the other hand, a bootleg, like the phenomenon of "bootlegging" where people entering a country under prohibition would smuggle in real alcoholic drinks from overseas in their boots or pant legs, is more akin to something where they take real games but just package them and sell them in an unofficial waylike all these fake game disks and collections, the games are the real deal, somebody just burned them all on the same disk in their basement and slapped a fake sticker on it

This Finnish children's song cassette full of bootleg songs, sold around the economic depression of early 90s. It has songs relating to Mario, Bart Simpson (not the rest of the family), "Teenage Mutants" (Ninja Turtles), Batman, etc. It's rather clear that whoever wrote these songs did not know much about the source material, and you can see it from the lyrics which are mostly just stuff the writer thought would fit. The Mario song, for example, is singing about him more as a hero to all children and being a super man, than anything about saving princesses.
