Play vintage story
I would if they just put it on steam
>>719345691you dont own your games on steam dumbass
>>719345548I already am :)
>>719345691>has to age verify with an ID to play your gamesShouldve just torrented on linux and played games using flatpak heroic
>>719345548I did, it was fun
The closest I ever got to playing Minecraft was playing Wurm Online.
>>719345548Buy an ad.
>>719345548No it's too tedious
I would if it had controller support
>>719345743I don't own the games on that little rinkie dink website that goes down every other day and has a shifty payment process.
is it fun solo?
I fucking dies to hail multiple times. The fuck is that shit
I cant find borax or limestone, prospecting fucking sucks. Easily the worst part of the game. I can forgive the other grind though because at least its straightforward and meaningful when you get flax to get to the end game.
/vm/ started a fresh weekend server today. The theme is supposed to be waterworld, but there is a bit too much land for my liking.
>>719347312yes you do. you keep the installer for life hell its even on humble and itch.io you're just a retard
>>719346549zoom zoom
>>719347841prospecting is literally just a heat map its one of the easiest parts of the gameonce you figure that out you'll enjoy it.
>>719348384I cant fucking find borax
if only multiplayer was more alive. i remember joining the /vm/ server and it was 2 people playing. i looked at the worldwide servers and it was like 10 people playing the game all together
>Just run thousands of blocks looking for chalk/limestone bro>Just spend hours prospecting for tin bro>What are you casual? Run another 10k blocks.Fuck this game
>>719345872>xirs a UKek
>>719348610Coming to the US soon chud
I actually reinstalled, haven't played since like 0.9 or some shit I think. Can anyone remind me of how to handle crops/gardening the correct way? There was like... soil quality right? I recall food being an actual god damn struggle.
>>719345548It runs like shit on my GTX1080 lol.
>>719348245>he thinks an installer that requires an internet connection is his
>>719348406Borax isn't rare, but it appears in very small areas at a time. Your search needs to be more dense than with other ores.
I like the artstyle but I don't understand the appeal in terms of gameplay
>>719345548Why? I already have minecraft with mods
>>719348898>alt-roblox artstyle >good
>>719348668Build a fence or bunnies will eat everything that isn't onions. Medium soil is good enough for your first farm. There is now a crafting recipe for terra prata. Make your farm next to water or water the crops manually with a watering can. If food was a struggle, you probably didn't hoard berry bushes.
>>719348898minecraft but everything is made "realistic" is a really popular genre for some reason, probably autism
>>719349019I can't find fucking high fertility soil and I was in an area with 34 celcius, rains almost all the time rain frequency, wasnt elevated and zero soil I found
is there any purpose in this game or is it just an autism sandbox with no objective?
>>719349139Don't bother looking for high. Use medium until you have the resources to craft terra prata.>>719349150There is a story, but you should ignore it and just do sandbox autism.
>>719348532my public server has 8 people at all times you arnt looking hard enough
>>719349342Oh shit I didnt realize you could craft it out of compost.
>>719347316I think so but a lot of people I meet need to constantly play multiplayer shit so I have no idea where you're coming from or what you're looking for. Personally, I liked playing MC single player too when it was new to me.Its a slow pace and more complex than minecraft but it never feels truly confusing or annoying. The way the game works is quite intuitive despite being more realistic than you might expect. You have to go into it not expecting to speed through it like minecraft though. Building a shelter is an accomplishment. Having tools at all is an accomplishment. It kinda gives you that same feeling you probably had when you first played MC, again, despite you already being familiar with the genre. It is a slow burn though. Its also very easily moddable (easier to mod than MC even), which makes sense because these devs were originally minecraft modders so they took a lot of care when building out their modding system.I play solo and have a lot of fun personally.
Are there climate zones and seasons in this game? One of the things that irks me about Minecraft is the staticness of the world. Not even mods can fix it because they don't integrate with other systems like farming, mobs, weather etc.
>>719349150This game is what minecraft survival wishes it was, and its like playing hardcore. Mining is actual real and not some arcade shit and its real systems like cooking, crafting, smelting, etc. Also it has extensive one click mod support with an official API
>>719348532og /vm/ server comes and goes in activity. There was a massive spike at the start of this year, for example. /vm/ also has started having themed weekend servers, which have a very active playerbase. The latest one started today.
>>719349918Yes. Seasons is one of the main mechanics. Also there is hot and cold biomes depending on how far away from the 'equator' you travel. I think it's North for snow and South for desert. I haven't played enough to go that far.
>>719349918Climate is realistic. On the default settings the equator and north pole are 50k blocks away from your start. It has seasons and biomes are emergent; the plants and animals that appear in any given area are determined by the climate and soil type.
>>719348972Okay more like what I imagine the artstyle to be if it wasn't all blocks
>>719350094>>719350197Do the climate zones "loop" around or is there only one equatorial region per seed?
>>719350742They start alteranting. The game also does hemispheres, so season flip every time you cross an equator. You also won't be looping them in a standard singleplayer world because of the massive distances.
>>719345548>friend asked me to play with him on a server>buy it and start playing>he only played for a single day before moving on to some other FOTMIt was fun but it also felt really lonely.
>>719351657Frankly, that's better that you didn't get invested. We tapped out when we needed to buy elk and it was going to cost us literal hundreds to get them.At that point, there was no further weapon upgrades or anything else to really look forward to besides loreshit, but abandoning the world we put so much work into was sad.
>>719348384I tried I cant find shit. Limestone is usually in caves or underneath sedimentary or malachite/gelena and I found zero. Just a shit ton of nickel and shitty copper deposits.
>>719348384Limestone isn't in the prospecting datadump.Gathering the stones for the higher tier of refractory bricks requires you to either wander around for surface stones to change, or to dig randomly and hope to find it at the intended y-levels.For me, it was finding the orange bauxite stone that took the longest. It is kind of stupid, like how if you don't settle near a chalk biome you're just in for some painful leathermaking.
>>719345548can't find that minecraft mod
>>719348584Its cool they make you explore to find resources but the game really needs a way to get a at least small amounts of materials that are abundant in other biomes and not exclusive, Minecraft got it right by making stuff like gravel and sand spawn in small decentish quantities if you look hard enough around your chunk
>>719345548why when i can play modded hardcore minecraft with my fav shaders?>>719347312>>719345743you do not own anyhing in life. accept buddha
>>719345548i picked up some rocks and tried to make a stone head for an axe then some creature killed me in two hits and i quit
>>719353657Panning local waters would give you some information of the beds upstream, but VS doesn't have rivers or sensible geology, so you basically only have the option to prospect cave openings or start digging and hope your RNG is good.As far as trace elements in each chunk goes, the prospecting readout does not actually indicate whether there is a ore spawn in that chunk or not, just the likelihood of it having a spawn, so if you see something like trace amounts of gold you could dig out the whole chunk and not find anything.
>>719353058I spawned in a granite rock strata for over 1000+ and uknowningly setup my base. Now Im traveling 2000+ more just to find a different rock type or some type of bauxite.
>>719345548I was gonna buy it but my laptop can't play it and my PC plays way cooler games. I'll get it when it's on Android though
>>719354156zoom zoom
>>719354480FINALLY. Found a deposite of limestone in a ravine. It was sand colored so I knew it was a different rock. Leatherworking boys we're eating good tonight
>>719345548can i turn off hunger and thirst?
>>719354421>Panning local waters would give you some information of the beds upstream, but VS doesn't have rivers or sensible geology,Yeah no at that point we're approaching a fool's errand for world genning, it can be done (there's Minecraft mods I'm sure that have a similar mechanic) but its probably not worth it and the prospecting pick exists.>As far as trace elements in each chunk goes, the prospecting readout does not actually indicate whether there is a ore spawn in that chunk or not, just the likelihood of it having a spawn, so if you see something like trace amounts of gold you could dig out the whole chunk and not find anything.Huh so its not guaranteed but youll probably find some in the biome, that's nice, I do like how this game gives context clues on the surface where a vein might be if you just see nuggets laying around you just go to a never before explored biome and boom, youll know what you find if you start to mine.
I like this game but it feels daunting playing by yourself, and I don't have enough motivation and free time to contribute enough in a multiplayer server.
>>719355040How can you say that without laughing?>it's foolish to even try that>it can be done>it has been done elsewhere by smaller teams>we don't need it because we have an unrelated mechanic alreadyGod forbid these devs actually add anything meaningful to the game.
>>719355074its supposed to be fun and relaxing so take your time. theres no rush for anything
>>719355074You can play on the /vm/ server very casually.
Ive been killed by bears and wolves so many times its not even a question now that I have a bow its kill on sight. No mercy for these fucks.
>>719352543slate can sometimes house marble rocks, which can be used as a alt for limestone
Standard or Wilderness Survival?
>>719358298Just standard. It's much harder than even minecrafts hardcore mode so that should be enough and it has the story and everything.Last thing you want is worrying more about hunger and food is when you have to fire clay a bunch, make charcoal, chop down trees while all simultaneously building a base and transferring shit from your mud starter hut
>>719358441Okay. I am gonna enable cave-ins and lighting fires though just because it sounds like F U N.Also how about Land cover? I heard this update added some ocean content, 97 percent sounds like a lot of fuggin' land but maybe I'm wrong.
A tip for anyone that plays, get crops and especially flax growing asap as soon as you find it.You need it for buckets, bow and leather armor as well as end game power. Also charcoal and fireclay all your molds and stuff should be done as soon as possible.Molds and food storage is essential.
>>719358783Put it down to 90%. Honestly should of done that with mine but there's not much ocean content to begin with.
>>719358837pirated the game yesterday, really liked it. put up a server for a few friends, one of which is already experienced. dude did all this shit so much faster than i did, he's already getting us to the copper age.
>>719345743The confidence. All you can purchase is a license. You dont own a disc, steam purchase or this dogshit game. Its a license, not ownership.
>>719345548I think I permanently burned myself out on this game. Either that or I just lost passion for block games.
how easy is it to make mods? never could comprehend minecraft modding
>>719345548>finally play>chipping away stone and clay is great>hunting legitimately feels rewarding>getting more storage and seeds is rewarding>get swarmed by portals every other day>not greatI'm quite mixed on this game. I hate that a portal will always spawn. I did get to copper after creating a bunch of new bases and living right where the spawn is. I don't like that the game wastes your time with the creatures even if they're not that difficult as the one that shoots needles just runs away from you and the small guy is just a chump. The rust thing is genuinely terrible, but hiding in a closet for a few minutes real time isn't that bad. Also light? Holy cow. I have to relight torches every couple of days because I can't find olives and bees.
>>719348584>find a literal chalk desert that I didn't even know what to do with
tell me anons what do (You) want added to the game
>>719361743there are some mods that make rifts less annoying if you're willing
>>719362160that the devs read a book about geology
>>719362302I know you can turn them off, but my point is more along the lines of that Vintage Story is great with some strange design decisions. I'd be fine if they attacked like once an in-game week which is like a month anyways, but every other day? It's like insanity to think this is default settings. Doesn't help that there can be surface crawlers who jump you out in the wilderness when bears and wolves are already a terrifying threat.
>>719362160Bandits and NPC PVP, Named NPC's with stories, More ruins and exploration lore added like more dungeons with puzzles to unlock books, better gear, fishing, magic and potions, buffs to certain food recipes, electricity added as the late late merged with temporal stuff game.
>>719358837Now you tell me
>>719358837I feel like an idiot thinking berries could get me through winter. All those bushes barely net you anything.
>>719345872I don’t have to verify anything?
>>719364870They are much better if you use berries for producing rot to make compost. Also another thing you have to do is get a beefarm going as soon as possible for beeswax, because your 8 crocks you make you'll need to seal them. And also the farming of flax you'll be doing is important because you need it to make leather armor which you get as another component from killed animals and their pelts.
>>719345548recent update is a bit lackluster. All my mods are on the previous version and i'm too lazy to update them all
>>719361743I agree woth the portal/monster thing. It's more obnoxious than challenging, by far my least favorite part of the game
>>719366468Definitely. There's a few mods that make it where stuff only spawns underground which I like a lot more. Doesn't remove them or anything just makes it not a constant nuisance
>>719366436the new update is an absolute nothing burger. i'm running 87 mods, i'm not updating for some pretty clouds or some bullshit.
>>719366757Didnt they add new story content and a new boss? The boats are kind of useless though. In the future if I ever do a real play through and they add more ocean shit like underwater ruins I'll put my world gen to 85% land.
>>719345929This looks scary which means I’ll never be able to play it
It's September in my world winter is coming and I only have two sealed crocks and two stacks of vegetables with a stack of grainI focused so much on making leather and getting copper I forgot about food
>>719367169Wait… did you say… winter is coming XD
>>719367027do you play in a desert?
>>719367169you can always find cattail roots to eat if you hike far enoughor just go south for the winter
>>719368437>go south for the winternta i was thinking about doing that, how far do you have to actually travel for a meaningful difference?
>>719368591at 20k blocks south of spawn temps will be milder and you'll start seeing some of the warmer weather crops pop up like sunflowers peanuts and amaranthkeep going to 40 or 50k blocks south and there's basically no winter but summers will get so hot they stifle berry bushes from growing unless you plant them on a high elevation
