Which ninjaman game should I get? Which is the better one? I loved both series as a kid but it's been so long.

Save your money and wait for NG4 to come out.
>>
Both good, Ragebound is better.
Don't get Shinobi on PC, it has Denuvo.
>>
>>719352525
Alright, sounds like I'll go with Ragebound first then and then Shinobi if both are worth playing. I'm buying on my Switch 2 as I like playing these games portable.
>>719352518
Getting that as well. I can afford all three, I just don't want to spend money on bad games.
>>
>>719352817
A note: Shinobi is a Switch game. The resolution is dreadfully bad on the Switch 2. Everything looks grainy.
>>
Ragebound has better levels, Shinobi is more combo-heavy, depends on what you want. Both have demos. Personally I like Ragebound a lot more but still enjoy Shinobi.
>>
combo-slop
not shinobi

Ragebound is the better game in terms of level/enemy/boss design, but Shinobi looks/sounds goregous and controls very smoothly so if you want something breezy it's a fun "turn your brain off" game until you do those optional "spike walls everywhere" platforming challenges.

>>719352442
For god's sake install retroarch and just play the originals.
They're 100 times better.

Who's to say I haven't? Granted Ragebound honestly holds up better to its series than AoV does to its own.

>>719356906
This too, it's the best modern 2D Ninja game.
>>
i mean ragebound is pretty cheap game, it is not very good. but somewhat enjoyable. i think this shinobi game can be better.

ragebound is not very good, same enemies, same textures, locations. i mean come on, this game is 500 megabytes, what would you expect.
>>
>>719352442
Ragebound fucking sucks. You can literally do the spin/bounce move to skip the entire game. It lets you bounce off enemies AND their projectiles with invulnerability.
Shinobi is a better designed game.

Denuvo or not, playing the demo for Shinobi felt wrong. The Metroidvania elements feel tacked on because the devs didn't know how to make a straightforward tough action platformer. Hollow, pandering nostalgiaslop. I wish Sega would quit farming out these remakes/faux sequels to eurotrash hacks like Megapixel and Dotemu.
>>

>. It lets you bounce off enemies AND their projectiles with invulnerability.
this feels kinda good

>>719357821
Shinobi's enemies are really bad. Extremely simple AI that can be easily exploited to do nothing and even when they work they're really easy to deal with because of your dodge. Ragebound's enemies are simple but they always pose some kind of threat to you and exist in the places they do so you can get those HyperCharge chains. In terms of location I'd say Ragebound has decent enough variance, but AoV beats it there; the game's environments are gorgeous.
>>
>>719357870
You don't have i-frames after the bounce though, and if you don't get enough kills/combo then you'll tank your rank. The game isn't perfect but I'd easily say it's better-designed than Shinobi, and I say that having a good amount of fun with Shinobi. Unless the game locks you in a room with enemies until you kill them, most of them can just be run/dodged past with way less effort, and without a scoring system to penalize you until you unlock Arcade post-game. On top of that, Shinobi's default difficulty is its hardest while Ragebound has a proper Hard mode.

This actually looks... quite bad.
>>
>>719358451
it's weird how none of the journalists except one has pointed out how fucking easy the game is

You can tell that LizardCube is the team who was behind the aesthetics of SoR4 (and a remake of an already good Wonder Boy game) and not the gameplay. It's rare you find a game that looks and controls so well with almost nothing beneath the surface. Combat is just breaking armor/filling Execution, the Metroidvania elements in a level-based game is awful for pacing (gives me Astral Chain flashbacks), platforming is spike room/buzzsaw-style from post-Hollow Knight Metroidvanias, and bosses are really easy to focus down. It's fun to play, but it's so shallow that I've got very little incentive to engage with all the optional stuff.

>Play a level
>Very obvious stage elements that you cannot yet interact with despite your map having a giant purple "secret" zone behind it
>End of the level, it shows you all the collectibles in the level, including ones you missed that you have no way of getting
>Game's story progresses
>You're meant to replay early levels once you have these upgrades if you want to progress Joe's abilities more or get to the optional combat/platforming challenges that can actually give the player any kind of trouble
I didn't like it when Astral Chain did it with story missions that have obstacles only later Legions can bypass and I don't like it here.

You're retarded both for calling them """metroidvania""" elements and disliking them. Bad combination of shit taste and ignorance.
>>
>>719352442
Shinobi and it's not even close. Both have demos you can try to see.
>>
>>719359741
It's not metroidvania but it is gay. Forcing stage revisits in megaman x to get powerups is just a waste of time, there should always be at least a route where you get everything in one pass.

MMX Maverick Stages can be tackled in any order you choose though, and if you know the game well enough you can start a fresh save and route it in such a way that you can minimize or eliminate replaying stages while getting everything. That's different from having those blatant unreachable areas in stages you have to play in a mostly-linear fashion. I will say that it's good that AoV groups stages together so you have SOME choice, but you're still meant to return to go backwards no matter what. It'd be like if MMX had major upgrades in the intro stage you couldn't get without weapons from multiple Mavericks and replaying it was otherwise identical to the first time.
>calling them """metroidvania""" elements
It's the comparison point that basically everything leading up to release has used even if breaking it up into stages doesn't make it as such, and it's clear that's what their primary inspiration for the platforming was rather than older Shinobi games. But to be fair, it was wrong to describe the actual mechanics that way since they aren't like that in practice.

I still enjoy the game, though to be honest if I liked the combat/platforming more I'd probably go back and clean out all the stages anyway just to do it more. It's probably like a 7 whereas I'd give Ragebound an 8 (and Shadow of the Ninja Reborn is a 9).
