3rd and probably final thread regarding Hell Is Us before the game comes out next week. Wanted to say my final word on it so far, seeing as how I got an advance pre order copy. Don't want to spoil too much if anyone wants to experience the highs and lows for themselves. Now about 20 hours in: the puzzles have been picking up and are defiantly the best part of the game. I got stuck around hour 12, had no idea what to do, and had an ah ha moment that felt great. Unlocking area 3 this way. (Tell me once you have made it this far if anyone else got stuck or if I'm just retarded.) The puzzles/exploration keep coming and they are engaging and fun, adding to the ambitious and mysterious lore. Game is extremely bleak too with the background having you go through civil war torn areas: landfill holes filled with murdered people, houses with dead rape victims, trees with hung children, etc. Game so far could easily be an 8 or 9... but it's not.Maybe the game makers really wanted to just have a mysterious puzzle open world game. Because the worst part is the combat, while fine soul-like on its own the problem is that it is still too easy even on highest difficulty. (Can heal after almost every attack.) Enemy variation is terrible, only adding 1 new enemy to each area so far. Lastly, the most unacceptable thing by far is that I have not encountered 1 boss in my entire time playing. I'm sure they will show up but either I'm playing very slowly or they dropped the ball.
is it like outer wilds where clue X over here gives you the knowledge to progress in Y room over there?or is it keys and doors and such.me getting this game rests solely on how good that system is.
I won't show what weapon upgrades look like unless someone really wants to know but here is a new base weapon not seen in demo.
>>719364990The demo has puzzles that you can't solve because the answer is miles away in different locations.
>>719364990several of the former so far. Notes in journals/riddles or environmental clues to decipher something. The big ones you have to travel the entire map figuring out different thinks and those things can unlock areas in different maps.
>>719365408>>719365269is it the kind of game you'd only play once because a 2nd play-through would suck having all the answers?
>>719365513No idea because I don't even know how long the game is, where it is going storywise, etc. I'm only 20 hours in. Could be 200 hours for all I know and keep getting better or shittier. So far it is getting better besides the last part in the original post I mentioned dragging it down.
>>719365513Yes but no. Because you can always head back to old locations and some puzzles require items from other locations to take back to older locations. So you get nothing special from replaying it.
dumping some npc dialogue I liked
Yo FINALLY early preorder anon is back. At a bad time too when Im gaming. Will comment on the thread in a bit.
>>719364652>Because the worst part is the combat, while fine soul-like on its own the problem is that it is still too easy even on highest difficulty. Brief thoughts before I come back:While I was never putting my faith in the game for the combat...man really? It got bad that quick? i thought you said in the thread 2 days ago that the enemy variety got better and combat definitely got harder.Shit. I really didnt expect them to take my criticism to heart to balance healing pulse since they obviously don't know who I am and its just too late but it would really help. Will likely have to balance the game myself when I play.Another concern, which is honestly to me, more significant than almost anything. Is, what is the ratio of combat vs puzzles/exploration?Because if its 70/30 exploration and puzzles then the combat being meh is not that bad.But if its 60/40 combat, then it could be a problem unless the puzzles are superb.
>>719364652Concerning.Crosscode managed to focus on puzzles while having great combat.
This thread reeks of paid shills and AI replies. Uncanny valley type shit.
>>719366472>Crosscode managed to focus on puzzles while having great combat. You might actually be retarded
>>719366293I jumped the gun too soon with enemy variation and difficulty sorry. I died a few times and then haven't for hours. That all being said the title disc page on my ps5 says: currently exploring part 1. Whatever that means but I would guess it means the game is a lot bigger and hopefully many more enemy types to come. Cope? Sure but whatever my fingers are still crossed as I continue exploring.I would say 70/30. There is lots to uncovering starting in area 2.>>719366503>been heavily critiquing game, calling parts unexceptionable>paid shill ai
>>719367006That's true for anyone posting on /v/
>>719367147>currently exploring part 1. Whatever that means but I would guess it means the game is a lot bigger and hopefully many more enemy types to come.20 hours for part 1? That could honestly be reassuring, if it really is 70/30 puzzles. Combat cant have too much of an impression to bring the experience down, assuming puzzles and exploration only get better. If its really that long might unironically become a day 1 buy for me

>>719366503You're dumber than a fucking AI bot. Vent your skull.
bump for videogames
>>719365116 That new base weapon is actually sick, can’t believe they didn’t include it in the demo-makes the whole opener feel kind of neutered in hindsight. If it had just one more trick weapon in the early loop, maybe people wouldn’t think the combat’s so mid. Curious if upgrades do anything beyond slightly shinier animations or if there’s real gameplay modifiers tied to them, but I get keeping that under wraps. Respect for not spamming spoilers, thread's been refreshingly decent.
>>719364652Thanks anon. Combat variety is what I feared. But happy to hear puzzle exploration does get better. Especially you describing it as having an aha moment. That's what I crave from these games.
preorder anon, do you unlock any new abiltities later in the game specifically for puzzle solving? just curious if all puzzles are purely contexual to like what you see and find in the enviroment, or if theres anything you gain, like an item or ability that lets you unlock or access new info or solutions
wheres the demo? i dont see it
>>719367558
>>719367578The OP posts read like reddit posts ngl
>>719369123sorta yes sorta no, their is a reusable item I got a few hours back that guides you like a compass to specific things. Nothing else so far.
bumpan
Silksong or This?
>>719371707For puzzles this. It's edgy blue souls princeFor gameplay probably silk
>>719371707Silksong then this for me. Only games released this year Ill buy.
Alright I'm going back to playing. Hopefully for most of the night and hopefully my concerns are met swifty. I'll check to see if threads still up few more times. Any threads made in the future I'll be lurking to see what you all think. I predict a heavy divide in consensus. I also think not that many people will be playing it initially because of the obvious other new games surrounding it's release date. But it will find it's niche audience. It's definitely flawed but I want to search every area and uncover the mysterious.
>>719371707Silksong will almost certainly be the better game overall (and much cheaper if that leaked Gamestop price is true)
final bump, till release date...if it doesnt get drowned out by silksong threads
Bump
Unfortunately I dont have the game yet guys so I cant really do much to contribute to the thread even though im a believer too
Coming back in to say I just went through a slog of a dungeon and finally thought I was going to fight a boss and I did but it wasn't really a boss like the game thinks it is. Was just a more annoying regular enemy so fuck them.
>>719378769So how's the game?
>>719378990its good. Was half a challenge finally and there are now several branching paths what to do next. I'm addicted. It won't be for everyone though that's for sure.
>>719378769so it's just the "linked enemies" except bigger or more numerous, right?how was the dungeon? what made it interesting or a slog?
>>719379181yup pretty much. It was a slog because it was just corridors and blocked doors. A maze of nothing besides a few puzzles sprinkled here and there. First time some of the enemies were actually somewhat difficult though so that's good.
>>719379440you can write your aha puzzle moments in spoilers, I'll screencap and read it after beating the game
i just cant help but bump, this is the only good thread on the board right now. Literally just saw a retarded onions irony poster asking for "black bvll to fuck wife" board needs to be nuked
Sounds like the devs spent all their effort on the discovery and exploration and tacked on combat at the end. They picked Souls like because its popular and easy to do.
>>719368573I cant believe blow said that and then made the most bog standard "field of discrete puzzles" puzzle game ever released.
>>719383093so you didnt play the game
>>719383360I refunded in the two hour window, does it get good 40 hours in or something?
>>719383570not 40 hours in but there's one "holy shit" moment fairly early on that changes your entire perception of the game and a shitload of puzzles that get more creative than what you get in the first few hours
i hate this shit
