People are starting to go back to PS3 and 360 and realize what a golden age for gaming it was, that games were good enough back then that you can pick up a random licensed game and be like whoa, the graphics still look pretty good 20 years later, and the gameplay is actually pretty good too. Which is of course a sign of how good games were back then, but also an indictment of how far games have fallen since then, you might have shiny graphics now but then you realize the game is as deep as a puddle, invisible walls and corridors, shallow gameplay, because they spend all the money on the graphics but don't actually have any depth. Whereas games from back then, they had the graphics and they had the depth. Back then, a PS3 game looked exactly like real life to me.

Weird that you are saying this. I just got out my PS3 again.

FF13 is a great game, IGN babies were just filtered by the scoring system.

I got rid of all my consoles last couple years but have kept my ps3 and Gameboy color. Perfect collection of games on ps3 or 360 but I prefer ps3 for reliability.

Is there even a single thing you can post about on this board without people vaguely alluding to some weird obscure porn meme

The good thing about back then is the business suits who gave the devs the money to make these games hadn't figured out "the meta". So they had a simple thought process of
>popular movie coming out
>young people play video games and like this movie
>better give some devs and cash in on it
So they would just find a studio which was willing to develop a game with the meager money they would give them. They wouldn't micromanage, devs were free to do whatever they wanted as long as the game was released within that movie's hype period. So these devs, from time to time, would put their SOVL into it. And there were other insane thing about this period as well, like every platform port would have a different dev studio and a different game. PS2/GC/XBOX version had one, PC version would be an entirely different game, PSP had a different studio, DS different, GBA different, and if it was early 2000s even GBC had another, smaller dev studio.

But back to now, 20 years later. Games cost more money than ever to develop. It's all about milking the customers to their last penny. No margins for errors. If you're going to invest your capital for a game, you need to invest BIG. So you'd better go all in and make sure it's a proper project. It will also take years. Devs have to strictly adhere to your 5 year plan. No creativity to be had here, everyone will use the same shitty UE5 engine and lower risks.

It's a great post! I disagree with unreal 5 being shitty. It's really good so a lot of lazy devs lean into it and muddy the waters in my opinion.

One of my favorites was the Game Boy Color version of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, which like you said was a completely different game from even the GBA version. For some reason it was a turn-based RPG.
To this day I've never played the other versions to see what they were like, but the GBC one was awesome.

Play PoA for GBA, it is also a turn based RPG. But while the sprites are prettier, it's definitely worse, you can see they were after a paycheck, didn't care like Griptonite did with CoS

How do you know? The OP isn't quoting anything said in the video at all
