it's come to my attention that a lot of you are old as shit. was gaming actually better in the 90s or is it old fart babble?
>>
>>719369961
Old fart babble. I'm 35 and I'm tired of all that shit. It sucked. It was only good for it's time. The only thing keeping the past alive is nostalgia.
>>
>>719369961
Gaming was to the 80's to early '00s as music was to the 70's to early '90s. their highest cultural impact was during those periods and there's not denying that shit went slowly downhill since then.
>>
>>719369961
is that actually brad pitts?
>>
>>719369961
Nothing has come close to the enjoyment I got playing GTA:SA. Just driving around listening to K-DST or K-ROSE.
>>
mostly old fart babble outside of certain artistic choices based on hardware limitations, and some legitimately great stories, characters, and soundtracks. the gameplay is often the worst thing about older games, except when it's the single best thing.
>>
>>719370147
Yeah I agree, some of my favourite games of all time came out in the last 10 years, meanwhile I replay many of the old games I loved as a kid and a large number of them just aren't as good as I remember/ have been made better by newer similar games. The only exception is strategy where they really did peak in the 90s.
>>
>>719369961
Well to put it in perspective, what’s better now?
Indie game or AAA?
>>
Yes.
>>
>>719369961
>better
Fuck no it wasn't "better". The kind of hardware and games we have today are absolutely insane compared to back then. But it was an exciting time nonetheless because progress was being made CONSTANTLY. Each generation felt like a legitimate leap forward.

Gaming (and film) was unquestionably better in the 1990s.
>>
>>719369961
Certain aspects were certainly better. When I turned on my Nintendo, the game just boots instantly. I didn't have to wait for a fucking software update.
>>
>ITT: cope
>>
Yes, probably. We weren't bombarded with this absolute information overload of shit and just enjoyed stuff for what it was. We are really living in a hyper reality RIGHT NOW
>>
>>719369961
It was better. The choices were more limited, companies spent more time on IPs... New shit was coming out. Pokemon was insane. And going to blockbuster to rent a 64 for oot.
>>
>>719369961
better only because the internet was not central to it
>>
Gaming was at its peak when (You) were 9-12 years old, regardless of the year.
>>
>>719369961
>was gaming actually better in the 90s

We got more great games every month then than we get in a decade now.
>>
>>719371510
Naw, there's still plenty of great 8 bit and arcade games from the 80's.
>>
>>719369961
golden age was late 90s and 00s.
>>
>>719371510
People really still try to make this argument? I find it hard to believe that people who grew up during the age of Tennis for Two or the Magnavox Odyssey would agree with you.
>>
>>719371510
I was 9-12 years old in 2000-2003.
I still think the best games from the late 80s and early-mid 90s.
>>
games were better when they weren't run by triple shit activists, and predatory game designs.
>>
Gaming was better in the late-90s to early-2010s.

If you missed out, too bad.
>>
>>719371510
no it was peak when I was 14 in 2000
>>

>>719370676
are proof that some people will be tasteless retards no matter how old they get.
>>
>>719369961
Not just gaming, everything. Everything was better. In fact playing video games is the worst thing you can do. There are at least 10 activities I rather do in the late 80s and early 90s. It wasn't under nigger/weed culture took over. Suddenly no body wanted to do anything except sit in a room and listen to rap music while smoking weed, all because Jews said it makes you cool.

>In fact playing video games is the worst thing you can do

Posting on 4chan is worse.
>>
>>719369961
Well, back then you had to be very adventurous and passionate to make video games when it was a very new field. This led to a lot of experimentation, and a lot of really interesting and soulful ideas.
Contrast that to today, that sense of adventure and passion is only rarely seen even in the indie scene.
AAA is all soulless corpos, indie is half trannies, 35% derivative slop.
The only saving grace is that as technology improves, making games is a little easier than it was before, and there are more indie games. So out of all the slop there are a few gems that still come out.
>>
>>719369961
Yes. AAA actually meant something back then.
The issue we had was low-effort licensed movie-tie-in shovelware.
Now, AAA means nothing and indie stuff is abundant. Digging through all this to find good games is a real issue.
>>
>>719371510
More like -4 to 6
>>
>>719372374
But us gamers are a lonely bunch. We need socialization but think we’re above it. So we post on 4chan.

Arcades scene - yes. 90's was arcade peak. . . it started to die around 2002 (yes I know pic is 80's but I like it).

Home - no, today is better.
>>
>>719369961
Gaming was better in the past for precisely one reason. You were able to play the games with other people. Actual people, in the same room as you, sitting next to you, talking with you, sharing the experience with you.
Games going online made it easier for people to play together, but in a sick twist of fate, it actually drove us all further apart.
>>
There were less video games back then which meant every game was more signficant. Even games you knew were crap could still be meaningful. Today no matter how big a game is it doesn't mean more than a piece of junk food.
>>
>>719375709
I preferred gaming by myself. Never understood the multiplayer meme.
>>
>>719369961
Games weren't better or worse but the industry was better.
>complete releases
>AAA games didn't take 5+ years to make
>exclusives made consoles worth buying
>rental stores
>>
>>719376292
Probably because you've never had a friend.

>WAAAAAAAHH!!!
Cranky old farts.
>>
Games were absolutely better in the 90s and early 2000s. Pick any year. There are multiple all time classics every year that still see play to this very day. There is maybe one game of equivalent quality released every 5 years these days. If we are lucky. Anyone saying ktherwise is sour grapes as fuck.
>>
>>719370147
Yeah keep playing fartshite/apex/dead by daylight or whatever shitty multiplayer slop you play, you faggot.
>>
>>719369961

Old fart babble. The indie scene alone shits on all retro games not to mention all of the amazing mods people make nowadays for free. Gaming is the best it has ever been and keeps getting better. If you only play AAA garbage that is personal failure to seek out all the amazing games being released all the time.
>>
>>719376695
>hollow shite cultist babble
Your bloated game is 30 hourss too long.
>>
Good game but
>pink t-shirt and gay hair
I'd beat your ass any day of the week
>>
>>719369961
Is just nostalgia.
>>
There were some insane titles during the nineties, like HL/CS oot, FF7-9 and StarCraft.
But it peaked imo when WoW (which was a really really good game at its time) launched. Ever since then, everything sucks.
SC2, D3, all the final fantasies are all shit games. Blizzard died, Squaresoft went to shit, and there’s not one single memorable title that stands up.
>>
>>719370147
im 24 and play more snes games than any other console
they are simply more fun especially compared to all the 80 dollar openworld slop we get these days
>>
>>719376695
>The indie scene alone shits on all retro games
Lol. No.
>>
I graduated high school in the 90s and gaming was better and more soulful back then
