Just played this after finishing Hollow Knight>Terrible combat>Movement feels bad>Gating is mostly done via uninspired, boring weapon gates>Fully linear progression (sequence-breaking doesn't count, no one's doing that in their first playthrough which is the one that matters)>Full of pointless backtracking to pad playtimeShit gameWhy do boomers claim this is better than HK?And is HK the only good metroidvania?
Both games are trash.
both HK and SM are very goodpic related is the peak of the genre tho

HK is a good game, but the level design is trash - for a metroidvania. What makes Super Metroid so good is there is no fat on those bones. Virtually every element, every room is a piece that fits into the larger puzzle. Remove one of those pieces, the game falls apart. Such a well designed, well-paced game, with incredible replay value. It is exactly what the genre is supposed to be. Hollow Knight, OTOH, is a meandering, aimless game a lot of the time. You could cut entire areas without changing the overall experience. You go long stretches without getting meaningful upgrades, whilst traversing long, same-y hallways. I understand easily why someone would not like Hollow Knight. And yet, I can't help but like it myself. The sprawling nature of Hallownest made it feel more alive. I did not mind the languid pacing, because I enjoyed simply being lost in that world, exploring for its own sake. The imperfection is contradictorily, part of what makes it good. >Movement feels badlol git gud>sequence-breaking doesn't count, no one's doing that in their first playthrough which is the one that mattersabsolutely moronic post in the context of a metroid game>Full of pointless backtracking to pad playtimeabsolutely moronic post in the context of praising hollow knight vs super metroid
