>Snake, I need you to infiltrate Outer Heaven and discover/kill their secretive supreme leader... who is me btw.

Is Big Boss completely retarded? What could he possibly have had to gain from this? He claims that he wanted Snake to fail, but why bother with the whole charade to begin with? Why bother giving Snake legit advice in the beginning of the game before switching to leading him into deathtraps?

And no, I don't care if this is somehow explained/retconned in the other 50 Metal Gear games. I'm talking about the context of the original MSX Metal Gear.

Could MSX boxart Snake take on Snake Eater Snake

100%. 80's action heroes are peak men, even beyond the genome soldiers and all that shit

What about Inner Heaven?

In the context of the original he expected him to fail. He had to keep up appearances as working for the US but obviously he didn't want to fuck himself so he sent in a rookie expecting him to die, it's why he didn't bother risking blowing his cover giving false information until Snake had gotten farther than expected and he need to do something.

Okay but he already "sent in" and captured Grey Fox. Or did he? Who fucking knows, I sure don't.

Big Boss had to send in their best at first to keep the CIA happy, but he also sent an army of soldiers to capture Grey Fox. From there, Big Boss was free to send in fuck whoever. Big Boss didn't kill Grey Fox as, allegedly, he was already planning on turning Grey Fox over to his own side, which happened in the end.

The whole story was a juggling act of betrayal & rampant stupidity. Keep in mind that Big Boss isn't the brightest bulb in the shed regardless of IQ. I mean, thinking that eating a glowing mushroom will recharge his batteries? Not realizing that Eva wasn't his contact? All the references to "Major Tom" made by The Fury?

kyle reese is that you? is this me?

>Not realizing that Eva wasn't his contact?

I can't remember: what was the story there? It's been so long like 20 years sicne I played.

i know the twist is that Adamska and Eva make an adam and eve joke. Was eve anyone in partiular other than a Chinese spy? Was Ocelot supposed to be his CIA contact all along? If so whhy fight him endlessly and make no allusions to it?

I guess the keeping up appearances thing makes sense, although I wasn't really sure who was and wasn't 'in on it', so to speak. Like the Resistance doesn't know until the end but I wasn't sure about Grey Fox if he was just faking being captured or if Big Boss had a habit of sending his own men on suicide missions.

He wanted to do honorable man fight with him

CTE is a real thing. Big Boss must have had some serious brain damage by the end. Even Solid was clearly out of it in MGS4
