What's the appeal? Sailing for 5 real life days in a video game doesn't sound fun.
>>
>>719394610
no, it does, but only if you're playing with your bros, solo it sounds like pulling teeth
>>
>>719394610
minecraft at its peak had 20+ minute boat rides. you are just a pussy.
>>
>its made by the same dev as No Mans Sky
DOA
>>
>>719394610
>island hopping
>fighting leviathans
>weathering storms
>singing shanties
Can't wait
>>
>>719395085
*DOA then slowly resurrected with updates
>>
>>719395220
i played no mans gay after the engoodening video and it was one of the worst survival games i have played. it put me on some kind of toxic lava planet so i died from unavoidable environment effects like 10 times while doing the tutorial
>>
>>719395363
yeah there is no such thing as a DOA game redeeming itself. thats 100% fake reddit hype / youtuber clickbait shills.
>>
>>719394610
Fast travel and fried dopamine receptors have really made video games feel like such a condensed theme park rather than an escape.
I hate you and people like you, OP.
>>
>>719395363
>he failed the No Man's Sky tutorial
Holy fucking shit, a gamer this bad exists?
>>
Its cool that these guys are swinging again now that NMS seems decent. I would be wary to buy it on release again though.
>>
Once upon a time there was an MMO called Asheron's Call.
If you wanted to travel from the southern coast to the northern coast in as straight a line as possible, without using teleports, warps, portals etc, you would have to walk for 2-3 IRL days without stopping.

Give me more games like this. I want a colossal fuckoff world where I'll never meet anybody except by pure chance or prior arrangement.
>>
>>719394864
>>719395214
There are going to be flying mounts as well.
>>
I'm gonna buy it day 1. It's kinda like those guys that play grand strategy games or things like factorio. It's not for everyone.
>>
>"we don't want to overhype like with No Man's Sky"
>publish one trailer
>complete silence for 1 year and a half + and let people overhype themselves and set expectations the game can't possibly fulfill
Are they retarded. Only post a trailer like 2 months before release
>>
>>719395542
i did eventually get through it but it just took forever because i didnt have any of the gear to survive the elements of my starting planet. i only read afterwards that its actually unusual to start on a planet where you passively just die over and over. apparently the knuckleheads working there didnt think to code any limitations to what planet you start on so my experience was just piss for no reason

never doubt my gamer cred again. i beat all souls games and most of them without summons
>>
>>719395680
presumably flying mounts so you can forget that 99% of the land under you is barren with no content.
>>
>>719394610
Not everything is meant for everyone you creature of retardation maybe you should fuck off somewhere else without gaming detox yourself of the big serving of feces you eat daily give it some time and then start playing games again for fun you know.
>>
>>719394610
Fun is just a buzzword for when you don't have any real criticism.

i only hear "its not for you" when people defend horrible dogshit genres like grindy everquest tier mmos and fighting games with 200 dollar battle passes
>>

Skill issue
>>
Does this mean is similar to one of those MMOs where you log out but your body stays? Wouldn't be annoying to play? Imagine sailing with a couple of your friends but half of them are rarely available to play at the same time. What do you do? Keep sailing with your friends sleeping in the cabins? Do you leave them behind?
>>
>>719395787
No, you ALWAYS start on a planet with an environmental hazard, whether it be high/low temperatures, or toxic/irradiated atmosphere. It's part of the fucking tutorial, teaching you that if you just pop your head underground for a sec, you're protected from the storms. And then you recharge your environmental protection systems with Sodium which you literally pull out of the GLOWING YELLOW FLOWERS that are everywhere.
How did you fuck up this badly?
>>
>>719396049
its very clearly going to be a game thats based on what the devs thought sounded cool rather than how it actually plays. same as no mans sky where its a very barebones space game but hey isnt it cool that you can fly into a planet without loading screen. thats the whole point
>>
>>719394610
Remember when Sean Murray outright lied about a bunch of shit in No Man's Sky? Why the fuck would you ever believe anything he says ever again?

Souls players confirmed to be 80IQ drooling retards.
>>
>spend 30 minutes walking in procedurally generated biome cluttered with tree and rock props
>stop to gather material to keep using my shoes or something because there are no space suits or breathing helmet because it's not space like NMS
>reach a procedurally generated [ruin] type point of interest
>find chest after a braindead 3 choice riddle from the Atlas but fantasy god version
>loot 3 different currency I can use at the magic multiplayer hub to buy an upgrade for my magic sword or an NPC only head for my character and some material
>keep walking
Can't wait

>I failed to survive in the survival game; therefore, the game was bad
>>
>>719394610
An actual full world would be pretty cool. But I am dubious on how they're making sure its fun and actually filled.
>>
>>719396267
I enjoy NMS for what it is and I'm excited for the same but with dragons, but I really hope they up their different procedural variations
>>
>>719396497
I mean realistically I doubt it'll just be a 1 to 1 copy of NMS functions.
>>
>>719396363
>that doesnt sound right to me
Well it is. It's pathetically easy to get past the tutorial and you couldn't even do that.
>>
>>719396252
If he actually demonstrated change that'd be one thing, but he hasn't. Believing him without evidence that he's changed his lying ways is just asking to get lied to again, because it's far more likely that he's a Peter Molyneaux type and he's just going to keep lying for as long as suckers like you believe him.
>>
>>719396652
no i definitely got to the meat and bones of the game: hitting rocks with a laser over and over and then doing it on another planet. i dont really remember much about the game aside from it being very boring. that was really my main boggle with it, the tutorial boondoggle was just salt in the wound.
>>
>>719396776
I just bought NMS on sale but I plan to basically use it as an interactive screensaver, just to chill here and there because it looks pretty and has nice ships now, but the gameplay really looks boring from everything I've seen
>>
>>719396252
You are a retarded nigger lmao
>>
>>719395623
I want that too, but the average video game enjoyer can't cope.

There's a ton of valid criticism you can make about NMS, but you sound like a certified retard.
>>
>>719395619
The idea of streamlining their mechanics into a single planet is interesting, no man's sky was clearly them trying too much

>>
>>719396776
You literally only click rocks in the tutorial you absolutely retard. Every time I see this get posted I'm reminded how dumb the average /v/tard is. For the rest of the game you just buy what you need or get it from one of your farms. You got filtered in less than an hour by a game as casual as minecraft.
>>
>>719394610
I'm betting the next NMS dlc will be about creature AI, they're just using the game to test new mechanics for the next one at this point. So the whole time people were like "they keep delivering" was just them using no man's sky as an alpha test.
>>
>>719397115
I didn't even play it yet, I can still hope I'm wrong

Getting ptsd from those very boring Valheim boats. Hours of nothing happening because the ocean is empty af.

BRAVO SEAN MURRAY
>>
>>719397298
That's kind of a good thing, if they were some other dev they would've just abandoned NMS at this point
They're also trying for feature parity for the Switch 1 so that's impressive, if only this game wasn't as shallow as a puddle
I did clock a hundred hours on it but I can't see myself playing for a hundred more

Sounds pretty based if you ask me. Light No Fire looks pretty interesting, so if they're doing their best to avoid a disaster; then by all means test your shit out in No Man's Sky first. It's a win-win all around
>>
>>719394610
it would be smart if they implemented the game having several character slots that you can switch back and forth on the fly. that way the distance of travel could be implemented without being needlessly tidious. Whenever a character is in danger you get a popup message to switch back to it.
that wouldn't just work for traveling but also farming resources or setting up a blue print of a building in creatie mod and then having it be build automatically by another character.
it has always been shocking to me how bare bones and tidius the gameplay in all those surival crafting games has been despite the genre being ultra popular and going on for over 10 years now.
the only game I can think of that kinda tried to improve and upscale on the experience by intreducing npc players was conan exile and even it was still very bare bones.
>>
>>719397298
Companions are in need of a revamp and if that means decent pets in LNF that's just one more reason for me to be hyped
>>
>>719394610
that sounds like it could be cool if ships don't need people online to avoid crashing
>>
>>719395542
It is entirely possible to get put on a starting planet that is just impossible to deal with before upgrades.
>>
>>719397298
i prefer fantasy games over scifi games so I am happy with that.
honestly it can lead to amazing results if devs can frist experiment with an idea and then fully develop upon it with a new game.
Back during the ps2 era, the best game in a series was usually the second one because it allowed devs to perfect all the ideas that they had tried out in the first game, or it allowed devs to implement all the ideas that they had to cut due to budget and time reasons for the original game into the sequel.
>>
>>719394973
the giant oceans were boring as fuck, literally hold W simulator.
>>
>>719394610
Sounds comfy actually.
>>
Might be fun if they biomes are full of cool stuff. Like giant sea creatures or ghost ships etc. What worries me is the combat. NMS is still super shit in that regard. If this is just NMS in 1 planet, its going to suck.
>>
>>719398741
No, it isn't. Every hazard can be solved with "sit in a hole/your ship/a building til it passes". Every planet has all the necessary materials to get off-planet.
There is no instance where you are incapable of repairing your ship and surviving.
>>
>>719394610
this dude just can't stop lying
