Most of the creative control likely gets funneled through a committee of execs more concerned with quarterly projections than artistic legacy. I doubt Derek has say beyond "make this vaguely resemble Star Wars and hit the target demographic." You can really feel the difference between passion-led design and corporate checkboxing.
