Was this the best of the PSX trilogy?

2 was kinda fun,the 1st felt more like an actual tech demo with how small some of its worlds are/were
>>
I don't see how anyone could place Spyro 2 or 3 over the first game. Fuck the minigames. Fuck the animal helpers.
>>
>>719398443
Yeah I'm with this. I liked 3 more than 2 despite 2 being comfier, but 1 is the most fun. Same deal with Ratchet. Meanwhile Crash 2 is the GOAT and Crash 3 is a tragedy.
>>

3 is good and the most polished game in trilogy, but wastes a bit too much time on extra stuff that's not nearly has fun as the main gameplay, like gimmicky minigames and the extra characters, which quite frankly mostly suck.

1 is the most dreamlike and experimental and has some truly memorable levels, managing to be still great despite the relative lack of polish.

2 strikes the perfect balance between the two and is in my opinion the best game in the trilogy.
>>
>>719398374
3 is too gimmicky
1 is too monotonous, too many levels considering how little there is to do with the mechanics and almost no aesthetic variety
2 didn't hit with every new thing it did, but it got most of it right, and overall it just has the most character. I really miss the level intro and outro cutscenes in the third game

2>1>3

Crash is
2>3>1

Simple ass
>>

Incredibly terrible taste. Vehicle levels are a blight.
>>
>>719398374
i don't know about best, but it's my favorite
>>
2's level design is ass, I prefer 1 and 3.
>>
>>719398374
Worst of the trilogy the mini games and other characters suck.
>>
>>719398443
The first game gets old after a while. The entire game is just walking around and picking things up. The only times things get interesting is when they do supercharge puzzles.
Also the bosses sucked, even by platformer standards

>The first game gets old after a while
People say this a lot but Spyro 1 is nowhere near long enough to outstay its welcome. The loop is just fine for the length of the game.
>>
>>719402386
You know, anon raises a good point. I often found myself saying "Shit, I'm just platforming in this platform game. You know what this needs? A god awful hockey mini game."
>>
>>719402654
There really isn’t much platforming to speak of. Spyro 1 is not a mechanically complex game, it really doesn’t progress much at all from the second world onward.
So yeah I would take a fun little hockey game to spice things up over doing the exact same shit in every level to the point where every level in a world blends together
>>
>>719403043
i agree with this take. i personally like most minigames that incorporate spyro's moveset since you are mostly still platforming, but in a different context which makes the game feel more varied
>>
Each game serves a purpose and niche. Spyro 1 is definitely brisker with how you go into levels without an NPC explaining the level and enemies. I got no issue with 2/3 doing so, but 1 is easier to jump in.
>>
>>719403043
>fun little hockey game
Oh I would love that, too.
Shame that Spyro 2's mini games are fucking terrible, then. Weird that you like the series when you don't like the actual gameplay. You should try Rugrats in Paris: same design philosophy, same mini game quality.

First one is by far the least terrible of the lot and pushed the potential of the series as fas as it possibly could. Meaning all sequels ran on gimmicks and completely alien gameplay sequences. 2 is extreme gargabe in contents and level design. 3 is 50% not Spyro. PS2 games kept the trend of having no clue what to do.

I dropped it at the "swamp" hub couldn't stand it felt some kind of viseral hatred & never picked up back up till decades later
>>
>>719403531
Yeah, the best was undoubtedly trying to capture the flags in Scorch
If Spyro 1 had more stuff like that, it'd be a more fun game
I disagree that we needed shit like hockey though. Spyro 2 added swimming to Spyro's moveset as well as the flying and flame powerups. I think that was enough to allow levels to be a little more varied without adding stupid shit as a crutch
>>
>>719398374
Upon many replaythroughs, 1 is the most replayable. 2 and 3's backtracking (especially 2) can be tedious as hell, and I like 2 better than 3.
>>
Bump!

what would anons like to see in a spyro-like?
>>
>>719398374
They are part of my childhood and I will always liked them for that and play them occasionally in cold December mornings.

But I would have to accept they haven't age that well, specially comparing them with games like Crash.

I would just recommend them to people that want to kill time to relax or 5 year olds like me back in the day when I play these for the first time
>>
i like legend of spyro
>>
>>719407964
Shows up in the true ending if memory serves right.
>>
>>719403671
Nah the minigames are fun. You sound like an autist that just wants the same repetitive task over and over with zero deviation
>Weird that you like the series when you don't like the actual gameplay
Spyro 2 is still 95% regular Spyro gameplay. And the levels in 2 and 3 are much better than those in the first game anyway
>>
>>719405309
>"swamp" hub couldn't stand it felt some kind of viseral hatred
You too, eh? Never could put my finger on it but something about the whole aesthetic was a major turn-off.

There were two different endings?
