>>719399618The game is okay, as an rpg it really is glorified rock paper scissors and the end game tactics (which is honestly a pain to get to so most understandably dont even bother) are genuinely miserable as everyone just does quick hit and all aspects of depth the battle system did have (not much) are all gone.The voice acting is pretty strange at times since its one of the first voiced games on the ps2. The story has good moments, and also dumb as shit moments. Even though you are playing for the first time, instill reccomend the expert sphere grid when prompted. Its more open ended stat progression to let you build characters more uniquely rather them going down a straight path.

It's a great example of "illusion of choice" making you feel like you're making smart choices from a variety of options, but mathematically there actually aren't that many choices. You can see this in the infamous sphere grid, the combat system, and i would say even the level design. If you want to interpret that as a bad thing I can't stop you, but I really think it's a core design pillar of JRPGs and what makes FFX well received.
