What does it do so right that other arpgs don't?
>>
Simple but deep itemization and trade economy
>>
>>719406007
Impeccable atmosphere really sells it.
>>
>>719406186
The soundtrack in this game is just incredible. So is the sound design.

/thread
>>
the gameplay is just unbeatable, skills feel incredible solid to use, enemies are iconic (except act 5) and just satisfying to destroy, theres rarely a dull moment without action
>>
Act 3 fucking sucks ass though
>>
>>719407131
act 2 is worse desu
>>
>>719406007
I told you nigga. Also you are free to stop playing Diablo 2 at ANY GIVEN TIME unlike poeshit2
>>
>>719407931
Nah
The lightning beetles are the only annoying enemy in act 2. The maggot lair and arcane sanctuary are annoying if you're a summoner of some kind but the arcane sanctuary at least is visually one of the coolest places in the game
But it doesn't compare to the dogshit level design of the forest areas in act 3 and all the midget poison enemies that turn into more enemies when you kill them
>>
>>719406280
D1's soundtrack was much better
>>
>>719406007
Loot felt good, simple as. One of the reasons I hated PoE is because it missed the mark there so badly. Loot was so unsatisfying in that game.
>>
>>719406007
>What does it do so right that other arpgs don't?
Nostalgia
>>
tried this season of project diablo 2 and it was the best shit ive done bros
>>
>>719407931
Act 2 is the best act. Maggot lair is the only bad part of it and it's just 3 floors.
>>
>>719408362
Project Diablo 2 is the shit for the first month of a season. After that, everyone quits and the trade website dies.
>>
>>719406007
what class are you playing?
>>
>>719408804
Lightning Sorc
>>
Every once in a while some friends and i will start a group where we share loot etc but don't do any public games. Kind of a group self find, on ladder. It's the most fun way to play that I've found, as it makes a wider range of items interesting than single player/solo self find, but without worrying about bot spam, trading or fighting for drops.
>>
>>719408865

what act and difficulty?
>>
>>719406007
Nostalgia? Previous investment and understanding of the game?
>>
Give me a guide for playing D2 in 2025

Can I set it up to play with a gamepad, or is that just the remaster?
>>
>>719409673
Just starting act 5 normal. I doubt I'm doing anything optimal, but I've got no interest in looking up progression or farming for ideal items or anything like that
>>
>>719406007
>What does it do so right that other arpgs don't?

>Great itemization, attributes are quite complex, upgrades feel very meaningful and you can cleary see the difference in power when equipping a new item
>The skill tree is simple, easy to understand and the skills are decent. Although in vanilla clod there are a lot of useless skills and balance issues, those were addressed in mods like pd2 and the Resurrected version
>Combat feels impactful
>Leveling is nice and replayable. it is a bit boring to level now but I went through the campaign like 500 times, I wouldn't be able to replay the campaign so many times in games like poe2
>Atmosphere and soundtracks, the different monsters in the game are interesting and memorable
>Getting a good item feels amazing, whether you've just crafted something sick or found a godtier unique, it feels great

What it does wrong is:
>There's no endgame at all. There's endgame in pd2 but personally I prefer the endgame in classic (laz era) median xl versions
>some runewords are imbalanced
>immunities are gay
>even with balance changes in resurrected, pd2 etc, a lot of skills are still useless. nobody uses ice bolt or fire bolt or dual swing. Median XL did it a lot better where every skill is still useful. Synergies are also kinda cringe and an uncreative bandaid
>>
>>719406007
Gear is meaningfully powerful but also not perfect. Yes, a lot of runewords are absurd and break balance. But nothing is perfect in every regard and a lot of the true endgame gear is stuff you won't see until late postgame.
I just started playing again recently and I've got a level 92 sorc who's still using shitty rings with +8 all res and a little bit of extra cold res, no life, no fcr (don't need it at current breakpoint), nothing amazing. Her boots are just some shitty mediocre dual res with 15% MF. Even with charms she's not capped on all res. Other characters have similar problems and it really shows when I try to equip enigma and then have -10 to +20 on my resistances.

Contrast that with PoE where you're basically expected to have tri-res boots with 100 life and 600 armor when you get to red maps, and every other piece of gear is similarly perfect or near perfectly rolled. Sure, you won't have mirror tier gear, but because PoE expects the player to be able to craft or buy everything in that higher echelon of gear, lategame builds have turned into a boring checklist of supplementary defenses. Got all res overcapped at 82-84%? Got bleed/cb immunity? shock immunity? better have all of these, god forbid you even try going into red maps without having everything crossed off.

Assuming you don't want totally blind, Arrest Summit is an official online resource for some basics like cube recipes and rune words.
if you want some basic recommendations of low level investment for gear, leaf, insight and lore are all easy to make and incredibly useful, spirit is your next step up and will last through endgame. Act 2 merc with insight is hugely advantageous
>>
You've been conditioned to receive dopamine hits from pavlovian rewards.
>>
>>719406007
is barbarian good yet?
>>
>>719406007
I can only guess OP. The atmosphere in the game is great.
The progression is slow enough, when you reach 30 you can pretty much kill everything I guess, I take it back.
The music is also great.
Finding shako for the first time is great.
I could go on but I won't
>>
>>719410449
Yeah it’s great on higher difficulties.
>>
I want to play Project Diablo 2, but I lost my cd key, and I don't want to buy it again

is there a way to play it with Project Diablo and a pirated cd key or copy?
>>
Solved game

>Combat feels impactful

something like this. I feel like the game is "solid".' It's not a floating 3d like diabloclones. the elements of the world have a weight that you can feel. I don't know how to explain it
>>
>>719411721
Yep that's exactly what I meant. When I played Grim Dawn (an otherwise decent game) it felt like the complete opposite. I felt like I was fighting holograms
>>
>>719406007
expand your diablo 2 experience and try out a few mods. project diablo 2 and medianXL are really fun
>>
>>719406007
Its a gacha slop so your zoomer brain find it addictive
>>
I've really enjoyed Grim Dawn. Should I try the Diablo games?

tried the PoE2 free weekend but I just couldn't get into it. The load times are ridiculous. The visual design is insanely cluttered, it's just visual noise on the ground. The monsters blend into this visual diarrhea and it doesn't even matter how they look or behave, they're ultimately just HP bars you're watching go down. I don't get it and I don't know what people see in it
>muh 90000000000000000 skills though!!!
yeah and all of them are +5% to <gay shit> or +5% chance to <gay shit>, there isn't even anything to look forward to build-wise.
Not even to mention the microtransaction focus... fuck PoE2
>>
>>719406007
>What does it do so right that other arpgs don't?
Made by Blizzard when they were good.
>>
>>719406007
I've been enjoying the EA of TQ2, but there's not enough content to really recommend it atm. Median XL is a good overhaul mod for D2, so much more mid and end game content.
>>
>>719413651
>TQ2
I will never buy an early access game but I'm keeping an eye on it. I loved TQ anniversary
>>
>>719411693
These threads filled with noobs prove otherwise. Many anons on /v/ can't even beat norm - hell mode solo
>>
>>719413993
>playing an ARPG in any way other than solo
Who would ruin the atmosphere like that?
>>
>>719410441
Maybe this
>>
>>719414102
Playing an arpg with your friends
>>
>>719407131
Only the sewers are a chore to play, jungle and cities are fun.
>>719407931
Only bad thing in Act 2 are the smaller enemies that move a lot, I guess Act 3 have them too but by then you should already have something that kills in bulk or faster.
>>
>>719413816
So far, it should be more of what you loved. We'll see once it's fully released though
>>
>>719406007
The visuals, music, and sounds effects are very soulful and the gameplay is really snappy(except when your attack rating is shit). Constant dopamine from clearing out mobs of enemies and finding good loot. Opening up a skill tree and deciding on a build is exciting, especially when you try something more unconventional.
>>
>>719408354
I really want to get into PoE's endgame but I hate how retardedly over the top it gets, even in PoE 2 it started off strong then gets retarded again. I like how in Diablo 2 even with endgame you can tell what's going on and you're not nuking the entire screen.
>>
>>719409892
Just the remaster, but you might as well play the remaster. It has a life of quality of life changes, you can still play with the old visuals, it has balance changes to make previously shitty builds viable, and it still gets updates like new items. I also love playing with a controller, you can just switch to the mouse for item management.
>>
>>719409941
You can get pretty much any item from anything, but it's worth looking up runewords and cube recipes like >>719410352 said because there's nothing in the game that tells you how to make them and it's not possible to get them without knowing.
>>
>>719406056
And why no others game devs have understood this and created something similar?
>>
I'm replaying torchlight 2 and you can make some really fun builds pretty much from the start and it's got good clickan but holy shit the temu world of warcraft aesthetic and completely substanceless redditpunk fantasy setting and diablo 2 but cartoony and gay plot make it really hard to like.
Is Titan Quest 2 any good? I heard it had very little content.
>>
>>719420136
Because modern game devs view ARPGs as needing to be faster and faster, more enemies, bigger aoe, more shit on the screen. You can't slow down the game, generic enemies exist to die instantly to your big aoe skill, Basically d2 endgame is the modern arpg early game and the sense of power progression is lost
>>
>>719420920
What, you mean you don't feel the power progression when you go from melting entire screens of fodder enemies while 2 digit numbers appear all over to melting entire screens of fodder enemies while numbers in the billions appear? the numbers are clearly much bigger!
>>
>>719419661
Technically you get a strong hint to the existence of rune words, but considering you have no way to be sure how it works without outside resources it's essentially a non factor.
