Oldfags of /v/, was pre 2010 gaming really that good?
No this kid is a retard. The only fun in runescape was PvP.
>>719408942the PS2/GC years are unironically the peak of mankindand not just games, about everything except emulation
>>719408942No, it was actually better.
>>719408942not really. modern gaming has only plummeted in AAA but who cares. modern gaming is in some ways better now because of the accessibility of PC gaming platforms and their modding (especially things like steam workshop), whereas PC gaming used to be very niche and limited.furthermore modern indie developers have a huge platform which has allowed for a lot more unique games.that said the "golden age" of gaming in the late 00s was unparalelled. I disagree with the assertion that most of these games were good though, I think most of them were trashbefore anyone says it i'm in my mid 30s and i PC gamed in the 90s so don't accusew me of being a millenial
>>719409540don't accuse me of being a zoomer*
>>719409123Fuck you. I was one of the people that liked chopping trees down
>>719408942It was fucking amazingexperiencing e.g. FFX back in 2001 was mind blowing. The prime of WoW was also amazingSo many good games dropping every year
>>719408942>go to game shop>look at game boxes, you see a cool artwork that catches your attention, you look at the back of the box and read a two-sentence elevator pitch and see 4 gameplay photos, that's all you know about this game>there is no trailer, no media hype built over years, no marketing, no early access, no 10th release of a long-standing franchise>just you, a badass box cover, and your imagination>you buy this game and on your way back home you read the booklet, it looks even better than it did in your limited imagination>you get home and start playing, there are no downloads, no ads, no launchers, no accounts, no body type and arachnophobia mode selection, no ToS to accept, you're fully immersed from the moment you start>you discover a new world full of innovative gameplay and secrets, you can't wait to talk about it with your small group of friends>they probably don't know about this game, there are no influencers, no youtube, no streaming, no clickbait, no meta guide, no DAY 1 ALL SECRETS video>your friends are convinced and also get the game, you share secrets and experiences between yourselves, life is goodYou had to be there.
>>719408942yes. You cannot possibly fathom how amazing it was when it was routine for new games to come out that would become iconic monolithic series. Splinter Cell was just a military game, Unreal Tournament was just a cool shooter, GTA was just a neat crime game, Halo was some sci-fi shooter, Gran Turismo was just a car collecting game, StarCraft was an neat RTS etc. It is impossible to convey how normal it was for groundbreaking games to just appear. You didn't look up trailers or release dates or "hype" culture, no video essays or analysis, at most you'd pick up a gaming mag every couple months for some reviews and see some interesting sequels in development, you'd go to friends house and they'd have a new game, or you'd go to the rental store and see a cool cover with a couple screenshots. It was just an entirely different culture in a different world, it was a different medium entirely.
>>719409540>is a millenial>"don't accuse me of being a millenial"This sounds like a zoomer pretending to be a millenial by pre-emptively saying they're not a zoomer (millenial (zoomer)).
>>719408942You know you can just play games from back then and find out for yourself, right?
>>719409123>PvPI think you mean PK
>>719408942some 30 year old guy wrote this last week with is off-hand
>>719409713>you'd go to friends house and they'd have a new gameI remember coming across quite a number of games back then from either going to a family members house or a friends house and they'd have games that I hadn't heard about. Then going to hollywood video or blockbuster and looking around in the games section to see what had a cool cover and then looking at the back of the case to see what the game was about>>719409893You're not understanding what he's asking.>>719410047Nah, that's definitely a kid's handwriting. Mine looked exactly like that when I was in first grade in 1999. I still have some booklet things from back then
Yes. You have no idea how hard forced ELO based matchmaking killed online gaming.
>>719409878even if i was a zoomer why would that make a difference to anything i just wrote
Better for some things, worse for others.
>>719408942>11/15/06that was probably the last day it was fun to chop down trees in runescape
Bump
>>719408942>was pre 2010 gaming really that good? When the 360/PS3 era started everyone on /v/ said gaming was dead. They called CoD CAWADOOTY.. And they said Halo was "babby's first FPS" Halo/CoD was Fortnite for it's time but for Millennials.
OP was right but I larped as a Miner, a mining smithing monk. It was a peaceful life.
