When the opportunity to make games look like movies presented itself, it was all over for the good ol' gaming. Photorealism made games look ugly, cheap and creatively bankrupt, with the ability to just scan someone’s mug and then turn it into the stuff of nightmares with bad shading and bamp maps and whatnot. The level design degraded to “let’s just make a forest”. It also opened the floodgates for all the wannabe movie directors/writers, who now started using gaming as an outlet to compensate for their failed hollywood careers; which, in turn, attracted the unwanted attention of the MSM and NPCs.Even now they will tell you that photorealistic graphics are better. Fuck photorealism. Fuck it up the ass.
