Do you guys still get hyped for games or always keep your expectations low?

I hate both the concept and the word "hype" itself. every time I hear the word used I imagine a skinny fat teenager making the wojack face, while a group of marketers have him hooked up to a machine that forces a positive neurological response to each product shown.

I don't think being excited for a game is exactly a bad thing since you can still be disappointed by it for example I remember being super excited for Persona 5 and while I liked the game I thought it wasn't as memorable as 3 and 4 but I'll never forget the lead up to it.

Most people don't even know what being hyped for something means. You have to actually want it.

I was hyped for death stranding 2 (and still am, won't play it till pc release). Hyped for several indie titles. Hyped for ninja garden 4. Hyped for Showa american story.
The difference is what hyped means to me now. Hyped before meant I would always be looking for new info on an upcoming release, waiting with baited breath, thinking that the release would be a monumental occasion, I would move my schedule around to accomodate the release. Things changed. Now hyped to me means that I am greatly looking forward to something. I might not get the thing on release even though I am looking forward to it. My expectations of anything that I play are never low, because I would not even waste my time with something if I didn't think it might be good, but I go in with the realization that most games don't really break any molds these days, most games that come out are just some reskin of something I have already played.

I'm not referring to anticipation or excitement but the word "hype" itself

Really sad statement. I don't recall the last time people played a game in the last 5 years and thought "Wow this is something new and never seen before".

I get hyped for games that make it abundantly clear they are anti-woke, like Wuchang. Otherwise, no. The industry is currently in a "guilty until proven innocent" state.
